  1. Re:Really, ATT's fault? on AT&T Vs. Apple Store At the iPhone Launch · · Score: 1

    Actually,

They went to Verizon (the second biggest cell company) and tried to go with them first. Verizon felt that the requirements that Apple laid out were too restrictive (selling in Apple & Cell Stores, activating at home, no sales in sister kiosks in Best Buy or something similar) and backed out.

When AT&T (the largest cell company in the US) said yes, a figurative "gun" was put to their heads.

  2. Re:hmmm... on How to Turn A Music Lover to Piracy · · Score: 1

Actually Edison probably would appreciate something like the RIAA. He was actually taken to court of his initial stance that his organization have final say over what content could be released as movies by the original movie "studios." He argued that the patent to the projection technology gave him right to dictate what could be shown on the projectors. A later example of this mentality would be Atari and Activision.

I have been a pretty steadfast Microsoft user (WinXP, VS.NET, Office, etc.) but recently I have started using alternatives to some of their software: iTunes, Trillian, and now FireFox.

There are two reasons to this (except in the case of iTunes, that ones because I got an iPod recently)
    1. Security is better (No activeX, no hijacking)
    2. Customization (I can choose the way I want my software to look!)

It may seem shallow, but I switched to FireFox because it let me make a cool looking browser.

I have been using SP2 since December, and I have to say that I welcome the changes to IE security.

However, it was not until I recently started doing some REAL webdev by learning .NET that I realized that IE is horrific when it comes to standards compliance.

PNG and CSS are not only standard formats that are easy to implement, they make things look friggin' incredible! Compare PNG-alpha to GIF-transparency and static HTML tags to CSS. No contest!

It is for this reason that I have stopped using IE.
