They went to Verizon (the second biggest cell company) and tried to go with them first. Verizon felt that the requirements that Apple laid out were too restrictive (selling in Apple & Cell Stores, activating at home, no sales in sister kiosks in Best Buy or something similar) and backed out.
When AT&T (the largest cell company in the US) said yes, a figurative "gun" was put to their heads.
Actually Edison probably would appreciate something like the RIAA. He was actually taken to court of his initial stance that his organization have final say over what content could be released as movies by the original movie "studios." He argued that the patent to the projection technology gave him right to dictate what could be shown on the projectors. A later example of this mentality would be Atari and Activision.
I must seriously be out of the loop (hardware's not my thing), but what does this radio do exactly? And why would it be classified as a terror instrument?

Duh...But tell us more about the book!
Just kidding. This sounds interesting. It would seem that in a universe such as the one this book describes technology must be liberally balanced with conscience, something we as (computer) scientists often forget.
I remember around '98, in the twilight of Adam's life he sold the script for the movie and launched H2G2 as a sort of web version of the guide. There were then plans to release a PDA guide that would link to the encyclopediac H2G2 site. What happened?
Eubanks showed the clip recently on, "The Most Outrageous Game Show Moments" on VH1 and the clip was featured in the criminally underrated biopic of Chuck Barris, "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind."
I have been a pretty steadfast Microsoft user (WinXP, VS.NET, Office, etc.) but recently I have started using alternatives to some of their software: iTunes, Trillian, and now FireFox.
There are two reasons to this (except in the case of iTunes, that ones because I got an iPod recently) 1. Security is better (No activeX, no hijacking) 2. Customization (I can choose the way I want my software to look!)
It may seem shallow, but I switched to FireFox because it let me make a cool looking browser.
I have been using SP2 since December, and I have to say that I welcome the changes to IE security.
However, it was not until I recently started doing some REAL webdev by learning.NET that I realized that IE is horrific when it comes to standards compliance.
PNG and CSS are not only standard formats that are easy to implement, they make things look friggin' incredible! Compare PNG-alpha to GIF-transparency and static HTML tags to CSS. No contest!
It is for this reason that I have stopped using IE.

Burley Man is a reference to Agent Smith and his cyphers. The fight with Neo and the 100 Smiths is called, "The Burley Brawl." Why? I have no idea, but that's what it's called.

The iPod can act as a hard drive as well. Jesus, do some research.
Explain to me the advantage of removing copyrights. Why should control of the works be given to anyone just because time has passed?
Great, know can we solve the great spaghetti incident?
I must seriously be out of the loop (hardware's not my thing), but what does this radio do exactly? And why would it be classified as a terror instrument?

I very often reformat my computer and if I purchase my copy of HL2 on Steam will I be able to make a backup or redownload the game after a format?
Otherwise, I'll just buy the physical version the old fashioned way.
It is bad enough with 98, but what if the same experiment where conducted with XP, considering all the wild RPC attacks?

It exists, no urban legend.

Oprah: Hey y'all!! I've gotta new book for Oprah's Book Club© today!! It's the latest issue of "100 Bullets"!
Book Club Member 1: I really enjoyed this issue Oprah.
Book Club Member 2: Me too, when the protagonist exacted his revenge in the three page, four color graphics, I was moved.
Book Club Member 3: I was able to rediscover the goddess within!
I don't think comics are the new novel.
Maybe he'll do a performance of Holiday In Cambodia or some LARD songs?
Most likely, just some more spoken word stuff. He's actually a smart guy, if not a little paranoid.

From what I understand, THX is decent at best. It's only gained esteem due to his other titles out there.
Sorry, it was obligatory...

More or less :D.
Reloaded was dreadful. I didn't see Revolutions, but I heard it it didn't help much.
Oh well, I really want to upgrade my original Matrix disc, so if a US equivalent comes out in time for Christmas, I may upgrade.

Shame on me for not RTFA :(.
Still considering the price, 77% does not jibe too well with me right now.
