Am I the only one who finds Godwin's law silly? Just because someone mentions Hitler or nazi's in no way negates an argument so long as it is sound in every other respect. I've found that Godwin's law is usually invoked when one cannot find a way to argue his(or her) side any further. Thus instead of admiting defeat or at least stalemate some one shouts "I invoke godwin's law, so I win. By the way, my daddy can kick your daddy's butt."

A better law would be something like when either party posts more than once in all caps all constructive arguments have ended.

I've never purchased anything from them, but I've considered it (decided to buy off of e-bay and install bsd myself), but the e-mails I sent to them with questions about their products were promptly replied to, and with good, tech-info rich answers, not some sales weasle-ease.

  17. if it's Genndy Tartakovsky I have faith on Animated Star Wars on Cartoon Network · · Score: 1

I think Genndy Tartakovsky has done a wonderful job with the cartoons he has on Cartoon Network. I mean you can not like the plot lines of Dexter or the Power Puff girls, but you have to admit they are defiantly in the top ten of American cartoons in the past 5 years (I'm not counting movies here). And Samurai Jack is amazing. Granted the style is not realistic, but the animation is really top notch, and the stories are very detailed and well thought out. I haven't seen very many that I thought took the road of "well this is for kids so we can make it dumb." I think Tartakovsky will do an excellent job with this endeavor.

  19. Re:anonymity = unsigned + unaccountable on Vint Cerf Talks About Internet Changes · · Score: 1

Unfortunatly, I don't think anonymity will last on the internet simply because of some of the things that are not considered private information under the 4th admendment nor held under the right to remain silent. Mainly I am speaking of the right of companies and schools to use drug tests against a subject. I can see the reasoning for a truck driver or a pilot or someone in any line of work that could put another in harms way to be tested for hallucinogens since these can affect a user long after they are taken. But to be tested for marijuana, opiates, or cocaine is unresonable. First it does not prove that the user will ever be under the influecnce of these drugs while at work or in school. Second, how in the world is this not considered having to submit evidence against yourself? I have the right to say I'm going to remain silent but I do not have the right to say "No, you can't stick me with that needle, draw my blood, and use it to convict me of a crime or deny me a job." They can't ASK you those questions without you being able to plede the 5th. Perhaps the wisdom of this is just lost on me. The other situation is forcing drunk drivers to submit to a breathalizer test. I am not sure of the laws in the rest of the country or world, but in Georgia, if you refuse a breathilizer your drivers license is automatically suspended. I definatly think we need to keep drunks off of the road (and in the bars where they belong :) ) but I think this goes about it all wrong.
