Backup and restore with Ghost is a piece of cake, do it on a regular basis for many different versions of Winders, no need to reinstall OS. Keep all of my data in a separate \files directory for all applications and I can backup just that then use a current Ghost image to put the OS and Apps back in about 40 minutes, then just restore current \files directory. I Ghost anytime I add a new app, both before and after just in case.
Anybody switching from the Windows 2000 GUI to the XP GUI is going to have MAJOR problems with figuring out where everything is on the Start menu. Instead of having things in a clearly defined place, you have to read an entire panel of SENTENCES to figure out where what you want to do is located. Which is why MS allowed you to switch back to "classic view".
Have you tried the simple "Switch to Classic" view in XP, hmmm looks and functions just like 2000.
Read the Privacy Act of 1974, a quick Google will find it for you. We had to use it in the Military and it basically required you to give permission and sign a form that stated what the organization was going to do with your SSAN, covered a lot of different area's.
Since the article says these will be setup by the hardware vendors I would presume the OS is already loaded and they also would be smart enough to have the Mouse tutorial autostart when the OS boots. When the user feels confident they have the mouse mastered they could turn off the autostart function at the end of the tutorial by clicking a button, now that they know how to click.
You said you cannot fix the Win98 box. I have a suggestion you might try. There is a command available with Win98 that you run from a DOS prompt, get there by pressing F8 when the system is booting and then picking "Command Prompt Only", then type: scanreg/fix and press enter. This will fix 90% of Win98 problems. Give it a try, may save some time.
I would suggest picking a restore point prior to your install of SP2. If that works and your system again is stable then try the following:
1. Run/Get SpyBot
2. Run/Get AdAware
3. Run/Get AntiVirus
4. Create new restore point if all is stable.
5. Before installing the SP2 disable your current Anti-Virus.
Give that a shot and see if it helps.
I agree with this poster. As said in the previous post you went back to a previous restore point and got the system back to where it was functioning normally including fixing the IE problem. Why didn't you try that first? Also, it takes longer than 5 minutes for a proper install. I did mine from the CD and it worked fine, took about 15-20 minutes total. I did as the above poster said and ran SpyBot and AdAware and a new Virus scan before I installed. Also I made a new restore point just in case. Just throwing it on a already malfunctioning system is not going to magically heal it.
Was always a highlight of XMas morning to come down and have the 4x8 Lionel train setup and ready to run. I spent many hours enjoying that and am toying with the idea of setting up my own HO layout. Thanks for reminding me of the good times!
I see how this works now. If you only answered with the MS way you get modded 0 but if you used the OO answer or a combination of MS and OO you get modded higher.
The biggest problem I saw was that Novell basically did nothing with WP. They had what at the time was arguably the best product and did nothing with it but sell it to Corel, I think 3 years later?? who got it too late.
I knew I should not have let my wife talk me into throwing away all those old magazines. I am such a pack rat, I had stuff back to 1978 from Atari, etc. Probably had what you were looking for.
Funny but it only took a half hour for a friend to reload from scratch her system and with no assistance from me except the 5 minute phone call.
Amazing what a Ghost boot CD can do! I always make a image for anyone that I helped setup, because sooner or later they will do something to the system, so 5 minute call, tell them to put the 'magic' cd in and whalaa they are back in business in half hour.
Just do the ole Right Click on CyberLink Power DVD and rename to Power DVD or something you will remember. Same for your other programs/games, the rename is a very powerful tool for helping you to get organized. Can be done via a CLI cmd window also, but you have to drill down the appropriate level first, same as with nix. But the point of not knowing the program name is very valid.
That VP of Marketing needs how to learn to run scanreg/fix after an F8 and getting a command prompt. People I have taught this too don't seem to call as much anymore. It fixes 90% of Win 95-98 problems. WinMe and XP, teach them about restore points. 2000, I have never had many calls on that one!

Believe he was referring to a monetary issue for not upgrading, not a fear of WinXP, at least according to his comments.
Definitely a bad idea by Intuit. I got around it by Ghosting my HD before installing, doing my taxes, Ghosting again to a CD set for archiving purposes in case I needed it again, then restoring my system the way it was prior to the install, with an fdisk/mbr to be on the safe side.

Still suffering with the PEST trauma are we. (Post Election Stress Trauma)
Umm, most of the games actually started a DOS session in full screen mode and did not require a reboot!

Than you could use the hole puncher to double it!
UltraEdit32 works as a replacement just fine!

Statement says "Think: do you know how to count the words in a Word file?" Answer: In MS Word that would be Tools/Word count not real tough.

Maybe a Winders install would go better for you.

That would be MICROS~1.MSN and MICROS~2.MSN, 8.3 not 9.3, good ole DOS ya know!

Isn't that what multi-tasking is all about, especially when utilization is only at 3%?
Thanks, that got me by the Smart Filter and it's on it's way.
