noone will agree with all of the sites they list, should make for robust discusson.
nonetheless, bear in mind they are not talking about current influence, they are talking about the sites that shaped the web as it is today. slashdot may have less visitors/subscribers than digg (i have nfi, actually), but it was a groundbreaker.
though napster, the software, was the thing, not napster.com. okay, lots people went to napster.com to get it, but i think thats stretching - mirror sites dont get included as they shold by that criteria.
i think it is an interesting and quite surprisingly good list. for a change - these things are usually a bit light/trite.

  9. Re:Extended Warranties Aren't ALWAYS bad on Computer Buying Experiences at B&M Stores · · Score: 1

in my experience, yes they are.got an extended warranty formy acer, AU$2k worth. the case had always been hard to close, when one day, 2mths out of normal excellent acer warranty, hinge snapped. i tried to move lid to see problem better, two keys fell off keyboard - it was warping. hmm.left well enough alone, never moved it,worked CAREFULLY on it finishing a job for acplmths, then took in under extended warranty.

tech guy said he cld see problem, would takeup to 3 mths to fix or replace. not a problem.

so,four mths of calls trying to find out wtf is going on, (no worries, waiting on new parts list for quote, they have swapped staff at acer, so still waiting, etc etc), i get hold of his manager (by mistake actually,as he wasnt around this day). within a day,i get told no way is anything being fixed on it,it had impact damage, and liquid residue in keybrd.obviously user damage.

lesson here kids - extended warranty is provided by an insurance company. they dont want to pay. and piss off the tech making recommendations, you get screwed.

demanded thelaptop back. the second hinge snapped day i got it home,so wonder what they did to it.no sign of impact damage. basic puter bit still good, so husband modded a wooden shell for it to sit in.its not ideal, but with a back injury, i need a laptop. and its a great laptop besides the issues. it would be perfect without them!

Terrific. I have it syncing under Linux. TF card (with SD card adapter) just mounts nicely. A1000 is Symbian OS, so I added an Ebook reader, GPS program, and MP3 program. Oh and some nice file management tools:) The ONLY issue is the limit on the TF capacity. 8gb would mean my dream all in one device is not so limited, and no ipods for me. i am enjoying my fifth gen ipod. headphones are the key to quality. but linux support is flakey. amarok, for example, crashes regularly, taking the contents with it. gtkpod is ok, as is yamipod, but both crash on occasions. none of them get podcasts into the podcast dir, let alone sync photos or video in anyway. and before people gripe about manual transfer, hey, if revolting itunes can do it, why not linux? linux does everything else i need...but i am sure that the issues i am having will change as more people take it on:)

OK Anonymous coward - YOU tell me which app that is? Because your arrogant presumption I havemt looked is ill informed. I have looked, and while there ARE book keeping apps out there, there is NOTHING that compares to MYOB - and its what my organisation, and a business I help with, need. ITs not sticking with the devil I know - anyone who knows me knows how much I loathe windows. But also, ask anyone in business who would like to use Linux about their accounting requirements - nothing currently available meets that. yes, I've tried GnuCash - its a good start, but it just hasnt got what MYOB has. And thats what I need, unfortunately. And bitching that the user hasnt trawled sufficiently to find an app doesnt alter the fact that a comparable one for Linux isnt there - yet. Id be overjoyed if someone knows of one - as I stated.

Dude, as much as I loathe M$, I find myself having to keep a partition for XP on my puter...there are apps that DON'T run on Linux, or have equivalents yet. The killer for me is MYOB, a book keeping program - I'd be deleting the yukness of Windows in a heartbeat if there was an equivalent or a reliable port. And no, its NOT reliable under Wine, or listed under Crossover.....I sodding hate having to reboot into XP yukness, and am hanging out for a MYOB equiv for Linux. Give corporations, and SMEs these sort of needed tools, as Open Office is doing, and you would see a swifter transition to Linux - hell a stampede! Oh, and if anyone knows a really equivalent type tool for MSAccess or MSPublisher, trying to transition a Community Centre to Linux would be simpler:)
