Ok, I'm all for freedom of information, but the places list has me befuddled. It accomplishes nothing except show what the US thinks it needs to protect better.
Now add on, that the guy who wants to show all this information (Assange) is hiding from an arrest warrant.
I go back to the old adage there is nothing such as altruism. Everyone, including Assange, is looking for an edge to gain position in the world, just like the mainstream media, and the governments out there. You think Assange doesn't want power, then you are just kidding yourself.
First did anyone even watch the Congressional hearin on this matter? Its up on you tube to see what what stated.
Second has anyone even looked at Sound Exchanges website? They have offered for any webcaster making under 1.2 Million a year to cap the rates for small webcasters http://www.soundexchange.com/documents/07_06_29%20 Fee%20Cap%20June%2029%20release%20FINAL%20_2_.pdf
They are trying to hit the Big webcasters (Yahoo, AOL etc) with this rate increase and are trying to work with the smaller ones and Public Radio.
Do I agree with any of the increase, not really, but in the same respect, I can understand why they want to do it. I would much rather see them use the 7.5% of revenues like they do with satellite. Add on that any webcaster can make individual agreements with any label/artist that will allow then to play their songs without touching Sound Exchange.
Why are the smaller artists who don't want internet radio to be shut down going to the big stations at least if not the smaller ones and promoting this fact?
The one sided look at it all really make me disappointed in a community that has a lot of intelligent people on it.
*puts on flame retardant underwear* Go head, flame away, Oh and yes I do DJ for an internet Radio Station that is extremely small (average of about 35 listeners) So I have been watching all of this very closely.
Well, I for one am glad that i'm not playing WoW and instead City of Heroes. At least there I can do a/petition if something like that happens and get a real answer, and some people have even gotten their names back. Plus they don't have anything preventing use of a title in the name.
Personally it sounds like support for the game is poor if they don't have an easy way for you to get in touch with them. Plus did you get an in game e-mail (if they have it) explaining why it happened. Sorry man, but thats typical big business for you.
The thing is, using a file swaping system is the easiest way to show how they work, and how well they work. Sure you could program it for say media delivery (AKA WinAmp/Windows Media), to work with an open standard, but it would take longer and be tougher to get people to switch.
All depends on content and delivery systems. You could use a new compression scheme or deleivery scheme that you had come up with that works better/faster/simpler. The idea being is that you limit one area you wind up limiting all.
All things considered, and adding in that some Senators are talking about eventually outlawing file sharing at all, ITs no wonder that the US is not the innovative/technologial leader it once was, and things are now looking even worse.
Why sholud I try to come up with something when I know it will wind up bringing me to court from some other company? US Capitalism is slowly turning into communism.:(
Ok, I keep wondering about the whole Fair Use statement and what it actualy says, so I give you the following secction right off the governmetns website holding the copyright laws http://www.copyright.gov/
107. Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use38
Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include --
(1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
(2) the nature of the copyrighted work;
(3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
(4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
The fact that a work is unpublished shall not itself bar a finding of fair use if such finding is made upon consideration of all the above factors.
Unfortunately, There is no provision in there for PERSONAL use. Our rights for it seem to actually be a grey area, as far as the way the law is written. What are thinkof is precedence set by lawsuits etc, which can be changed as needed base on new information.
Actually, I did not pay for City of Heroes. They have promotions where friends can invite people to play for a 14 day free trial. The software is free, and then you have your $15/month fee.
They had a 5 minute launch window today. I 'm sure their website has mre info on tomorrow's window(s). It reall depends on where the ISS is at the time. It is possible to have 2 launch windows in the same day if one is early enough in the day. Back when they did night launches, it would have been easy to have 2 or possibly 3 launch windows in a 24 hour time frame.
Also because the ISS orbits the earth every 90 seconds as opposed to say MArs which is orbiting the sun, there are many more opprotunites to launch.
Ok, we all know Microshit will be screwing everyone on this, But what ahppen to all the flack the OTHER antispyware companies were supposed to get when THEY DESCLASSIFIED SPYWARE a few months ago?
Devin Grayson who writes nightwing (or at least used to its been a while) I a great Female comic book writer. She picked up from Chuck Dixon and has really done a fantastic job with the book.
That someone with some balls ruled for the common man's privacy. Of course no the RIAA will probably team up with SCO to make everything they do Leagle and important.
Wait a sec.. maybe thats the real backer of the SCO lawsuit.. the RIAA. Just a blip in the mind
ITs obvious that the parents didn't raise their kids well, since they arenot accepting any responisbility. I wonder how long the parents were allowing them to play the game before this happened, and did they actually take an active interest in their children?
Its another case of something being blamed to avoid responsibility and it again shows the sad state of this sue happy country.
Verizon orginally stood up for its customers, until a court decision forced it to give the RIAA what it wanted. The others just ASS(umed) that the ruling applied to them, instead of waiting for the appeals process to finish (which is still going on).
"There needs to be some form of ability to track someone, for those few cases where "really bad things" are done. I'm sure nobody here would like spammers given anonymous IP addresses in a net block."
When "really bad things" are done, it usually falls to the real law authorities (police, FBI, NSA etc..) and they have procedures to get proper subponeas and get the information.
The thing is they are not talking about an anonumus block. SBC is basically saying that the RIAA is not following due process. Not only that but the RIAA is a LOBYING group, not a duly appoint police force. This is turning into a case of someone driving by your house, seeing a light in the window, walking up to that window and seeing you watching a video tape that you don't own, guessing you don't own it and didn't properly rent it, and then saying to a judge that the want all your information so they can sue you because they were in the item you were watching.
If the RIAA wants to do this, they should lobby to OFFICIALLY become a police force for the record industry and have to follow the proper procedures. Copyright Infringment is a CRIME, and thereby a lobbying group should not be the police in these matters. IMHO, the should give the IP addresses they have got to the proper authorites to deal with. Then again, the authorities have bette things to do than go after a 12 year old kid.

Devin Grayson who writes nightwing (or at least used to its been a while) I a great Female comic book writer. She picked up from Chuck Dixon and has really done a fantastic job with the book.
So what does that Say about BattleStar Galactica? I think Battlestar is a fantastic show!
Umm.. That was Han.
Hey pays enough people to vote for him from what gets from the RIAA/MPAA
I reported this last week.
Actually, it's probably Daryl McBrides Urine so Sco can sue NASA over Mars.

Just an FYI.
