    Lighten up, Francis. It's just a hurricane and the people affected know what to do. The east coast of the United States has been hit by hurricanes for thousands of years and this one is no different; in fact, it's not even the largest to hit in living memory.

    Not only have we been exporting jobs, we've also been importing cheap labor. Don't believe the figures on the number of undocumented workers. There are millions more than that - just wait until the next census to see for yourself.

    I've personally seen jobs that used to be good-paying jobs go away because illegals undercut the wages - electrician, plumber, carpenter, mason, etc.. Yeah, those are considered blue collar jobs, but they used to be pretty good career choices with a good income.

  5. That's what I've been reading about, too. It just makes sense to support what you naturally have in your gut. As far as what to do after taking a course of antibiotics, we know that antibiotics don't kill ALL your gut bacteria, so it seems wise to support the ones that survive.

    I can get all the prebiotics I need from the foods I eat, but because of my varied and hectic schedule I don't always eat the way I'm supposed to eat, so I take prebiotics when I need them.

  12. Not to mention how parental leave screws the workers who don't have children. Why should Joe or Susie get so much time off when Sam has only three weeks of paid vacation per year? Sam could be single, or he could be married with he and his wife both sterile. Sam gets screwed in all kinds of ways, but only one of them the good kind.

    Maybe some of the better 4K devices will get cheaper. The lower end models are already affordable, but I've been waiting to buy a larger, better quality television.

    When? Can you answer that? That is the number one question and nobody knows the answer. The companies keep saying it's close, very close. Really?

    It will happen, but I think it's a lot further away than most people think. Maybe in 20 or 25 years you'll see fully autonomous vehicles. We're just not there yet.

    If the Fair Tax were passed, everybody would get a prebate based on what they'd pay on tax with an income at the poverty level. Back in 2014 that amount was about $12,000/year for adults and about $4,000/year for children.

    It really is a good plan, but I doubt Washington D.C. would ever give up the power they have now with the income tax.

    My Social Security card is old enough that it has printed on it, "Not to be used for identification". They were never intended to be used as such, but somehow it got into everybody's mind that they were. Everybody from the doctor's office to the pizza guy thinks they're entitled to ask for it. Tell them, "NO".

    I agree 100%.

    I don't pay attention to ratings at all. Since I haven't been to a theater in nearly 30 years, I don't have to worry about ratings. Some of the best movies I've watched over the past few years have been movies I didn't know anything about before I watched them. When you're watching at home you can simply stop a bad movie and find something else to watch.

    Home theater is what it's all about. You couldn't get me in a theater if you paid me.

    Amen! I would add that "zero tolerance" policies need to go, too. Zero tolerance means zero intelligence. Schools have such policies because it relieves them from having to think. Aren't all the grown-ups at a school supposed to be capable of critical thinking? Aren't they all supposed to be intelligent?

    The real crime in this case is that charges were brought against an innocent person in the name of "safety". Bullshit!

    I live in "backwards" Alabama and I changed over to LED lights a while back. Even my flashlights are LEDs. Most of my friends and family have switched, too. The only incandescent bulbs in my house are in the oven and refrigerator (they'll probably outlast me). Welcome to the 21st Century, Europe!

    The fine article doesn't tell us who may have downloaded the records or if they were just found exposed. Could well be no harm was done at all.

    I can put a hundred dollar bill down on the sidewalk, but I haven't lost anything until somebody picks it up. Besides, most of this info is open to the public anyway.

    I'll stop saying "data are" when the rest of you stop using plural verbs with collective nouns. The team "IS" winning, not the team "are" winning. Sure, they may say it like that across the pond (the UK), but here (the US) collective nouns are singular and take a singular verb (most of the time - there are a few exceptions).
