without XBox there would be no one to keep Sony honest*
*Yes yes yes. Gamecube, Dreamcast, Phantom, blah blah. Anyone honestly think they could keep Sony honest?
It's always somebody elses job isn't it? Somebody else better keep Sony honest because I don't want to have to shoulder that burden! I don't want to have to make the sacrifice. Somebody else will do it. Ever thought about your own actions? Why not take it upon yourself? Don't buy a PS2. Buy a Gamecube, Xbox, N-Gage, GBA, or (insert console here). Sure beats trusting Microsoft...
Now pass this along to 10 other people within the next 30 minutes and your wish will come true.
The Z80 was built into the core of the ARM7 used in the GBA. It's a safe bet that the secondary chip in the DS (the ARM7) is just a GBA processor that's clocked at 33MHz instead of 16MHz (the ARM7 is designed for 33MHz IIRC).
If the rumors are to be believed and it ends up having A B X Y and L R buttons, it could turn into the elusive perfect SNES emulation device. Now before anyone brings up the GP32 or other competitors which have come up short, the DS will have a usable screen and wide availability, some things the GP32 never had.
If the alledgedly leaked specs are to be believed, then the DS is capable of doing 120,000 polys a second, which amounts to 4,000 per second--roughly equal to a Playstation.
Although Nikon, Canon, Minolta, and Olympus all use Sony CCD chips as well, e.g. the Sony 8MP chip going into each of their flagship consumer machines.
The good thing is, id can always put co-op play in in a patch. They add features a lot with their patches, hopefully they'll add this once they get a little less busy getting the game shipped.
Ah but then you'll get gamers griping (justifiably) about publishers shipping half complete (full price) games. What ever happened to "It will be done when it is done"? (brace yourself for the thousand Duke Nukem Forever jokes)
synthetic alchohol fuels are a good idea as well, but the problem with those is the flammability issue.
Perhaps the bigger problem would be keeping the Barney Gumble's (and Otto Man's) of the world away from the tank. The last thing anyone needs to find in their car hole is a drunk (or a stoner) with a hose stuck in the side of the family's Canyonero. (Did I miss any Simpsons references?)
You could always play those games over the year, that's what I tend to do. I've got you beat though, I have Playstation and N64 games that I've yet to even crack open...
Not to sound like flamebait, but are people too dense to hold on to their money during the rest of the year if they don't see anything that they like? Everyone knows that a tidal wave of games comes out at Christmas time, knowing this, is it really that hard to plan for it by putting away $10 or $20 a week during the rest of the year?
Note to publishers; we can't afford to buy 20 games in the run up to Christmas. Even 10 would be a struggle...
The question is, is that what publishers expect? I doubt very much that publishers expect a gamer to buy 20, 10 or even 5 games within a four week period at the end of the year. Some gamers that I know don't even buy 10 games a year at budget (Greatest Hits, Player's Choice) prices! Fact is that just before Christmas time, there will be a lot more buyers on the market than at other times of the year, for hopefully obvious reasons. (in fact, the last weekday before the 24th is one of the busiest shopping days of the year) I mean come on, everyone is spent out by January. Unless you have a guaranteed mega-hit like GTA4 or something, what's better? A before or after Christmas release?
Hmm, this is not much different than what the ESRB is asking. The ESRB suggests Manhunt should be 17+ while the R rating in Ontario means 18+ (it's different from an MPAA R) so we're talking a difference of one year.
Perhaps a small distinction, but unlike the ESRB rating, the rating from the Ontario Film Review Board was given by persons that actually played the game. That alone gives it a leg up in my books.
Unfortunately I never had one of those Dual Shock 1 controllers for my Playstation, only the original controller that shipped from day one, so no comparisons there.
Ugh! Sony has a GREAT controller and they do not need to mess with it!
I would disagree with that. About the only thing Sony got right was the number of buttons (4 face, 4 triggers). Otherwise there is an awful lot to not like. Just so that I don't get modded as a troll, I'll list them (in no particular order).
analog face buttons that feel just like digital click switches--WHY?? (really, they should have made the 4 triggers analog, although they would have probably still ended up being cheap feeling)
poor positioning of the analog sticks (because they were after thoughts only put in due to the N64), not only do they cramp thumbs, but they make it difficult (if not impossible) to hit the start/select buttons without either hitting the sticks or contorting your thumb
(3 things) analog stick is too loose, rubbery surface gives no grip for your thumb, lacks the 8-way "insert" found on the Nintendo sticks
the broken up d-pad (killer on the thumb) which I do not understand because it's actually one piece of plastic under the surface
"rounded" grips for holding comfort, unfortunately not round enough--makes me wonder why they even wasted the plastic if they weren't going to do it right
It would be a shame if Sony didn't mess with the dual shock design.
How does that improve things? So Sony can move in and start their own monopoly? So we can have Sony tell third parties what they can and cannotpublish? Care to take a guess at which company has blocked and required editing of more games during the last five years?
Sony's weekly 100,000-unit shipments only further agitated the market. Though PlayStation 2 units were readily available in Japan, the console remained virtually sold out in the United States through March, 2001.
IIRC that number was eventually cut down to 50K/week before getting cut down even further to 25K/week. The massive 0.25um 300mm^2 chip in the blasted thing probably didn't help Sony meet shipment targets.
Sigh. Insightful? Did you think that pulling that tired old cliche out of the bag proves that the two concepts are mutually exclusive?
So what if a game tries to appeal to as many people as possible? The game doesn't automagically suck, as you are implying. Nor are narrowly targetted games the only ones that can be candidates for Game of the Year. If I may be obvious for a moment, it's BAD GAMES that please no one. Nothing to do with Hollywood or audiences at all.
BTW don't get mad at Nintendo, they are not the offenders here.
I called to have the fee refunded, and Microsoft refused. They informed me that since it had been longer than 60 days from when my account was renewed, I was not eligible for a refund. The problem lies in that they didn't charge my credit card until December 26, despite renewing my account on November 15.
That does sound underhanded. If you receive your monthly statement around the middle of each month, by the time the December statement comes in at the middle of January, it would have already been too late for a refund. Bastards.
You could use the SD-memory card adapter to attach SD cards to the system (up to 512MB). Of course being a flash memory device, there would be limitations.
lower speed than discs, possibly limited by the memory card interface
I wouldn't try writing too often to the card (think of the cells!), it would be strictly a read only device
I believe the memory card file system is limited to 127 files on the Gamecube but not 100% sure

Firewall is on by default with XP SP2.

I have two Dual Shock 2 controllers sitting on top of the PS2 next to me right now. They are the cause of my gripes not the solution...

Why does Meyer call Kent "Karl" in one line and "Kent" in the other?
According to the story account, the Live account was renewed on November 15.
