My grandfather died a few years ago, and I was on a plane the next day to visit with family. Now, it ended up that he wasn't buried until the following week, but if he had been buried sooner and I had had to wait 3 days prior to flying out, I would've missed his funeral.
Just because you don't know the name Jack Thompson, doesn't mean that most geeks/nerds don't immediately know who he is. You'll also note that this story is tagged as "humor" not as "gaming", so to be perfectly honest, it could be *any* lunatic lawyer that's issued a subpoena for the President in defense for the deposition of his license to practice law. The fact that it's Jack Thompson just makes it better for those of us who know who he is (which, I'm sorry, I would bet that there are more of us who do than those who don't).
In many situations, it is both superior to and FAR more polite than yapping. I had my first cell phone when I lived in Japan, and I sent and received about twenty messages a day. Talking on cell phones was banned in many locations including public transportation, and severly frowned upon in most other public locations. It was like heaven.
Then I returned to the US: People yap while driving. Yap on the bus. Yap while in line. Yap yap yap, oblivious to the people around them or how annoying (and dangerous) they are being.
Maybe you're not actually saying it, but it almost sounds like you're implying that texting while driving is safer than talking. Neither one are safe, but talking while driving is certainly safer than texting.
I've actually had the opportunity to use DWR recently, and if you're developing a Java servlet-based application, it's mind-numbingly easy to set up and use. Basically, you tell it which Java objects you want to call methods on, which ones you want to be able to marshal back and forth, and it basically gives you a Javascript interface to all of your code, and it even generates a web page where you can pass in values to the functions and it will do its best at displaying the results of the method call. I thought the fact that they dismissed it because "it didn't fit into our architecture" was pretty lame.
I'm no a fan of Stephens particularly, but he definitely got a bad rap for this one. The full quote is actually very well thought out and intelligent sounding, even if it is using layman's terms.
"They want to deliver vast amounts of information over the Internet. And again, the Internet is not something you just dump something on. It's not a big truck. It's a series of tubes. And if you don't understand those tubes can be filled and if they are filled, when you put your message in, it gets in line and it's going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of material, enormous amounts of material."
I think Senator Stevens got a bad rap for that one. Techies often talk about "fat pipes" when they mean fast network connections, and evidently the image stuck in Stevens' head. I'd give him the benefit of assuming he was speaking metaphorically, since he must know that there's no actual tube connected to his computer.
I own a copy of the board game, but haven't played it for years, mainly because nobody I know anymore knows how to play it and I'd teach my wife but that still leaves us at least one player short, and two players short for a decent game.
I'm sorry, but I don't see why Sony is wasting their time on this. The hardware on the PS3 has *never* been the problem. Every complaint about the PS3 has been related to the games themselves and how there isn't really a single "killer app" for the system.
Okay, so... there's a Darth Maul stamp, but no Lando Calrissian stamp? How about a Jabba the Hut stamp? He certainly played a much bigger role in the series than Darth Maul did. Darth Maul, as cool as he may have looked, was almost completely insignificant to the story.
Nina's boyfriend Sean Sturgeon allegedly practices BDSM, raped Nina, engages in "death yoga", made death threats against Hans, cheated with a married woman, and stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from Hans Reiser: http://cbs5.com/topstories/local_story_256204954.h tml This would have more validity if it weren't for the fact that the only person making these allegations is Hans Reiser.
I realize that some of these use similar technology, but there's clearly a good bit of innovation going on there, as opposed to what's going on at Microsoft.
I'm not a sex offender, nor have I ever been one, but I do think this is going a little overboard, unless we're talking about using it just to enforce the conditions of their parole and not tacking on new restrictions that weren't previously being made.
That's great, isn't it? My wife and I have been watching the older seasons on DVD and just saw an episode that dealt with street racing. I'll give them this - they were more technically accurate than either of the Fast & Furious movies.
This car has been in the works for two years (maybe longer) now with repeated release delays and increasing costs. I have my doubts that VWAG will ever actually produce and sell one of these vehicles.
Is it April 1st already?
So... I can make a naked female Night Elf figurine?
Fidelity - n. 1. Faithfulness to obligations, duties, or observances.

I think I read this somewhere in a chess book.
Checkmate - A term used by amateur chess players before they learn the word resign.

It took entirely too long for me to scroll down and see a Liger comment... I'm a very disappointed geek.

Didn't tax season start about a month and a half ago when everyone should've already received their W2's?
Unless you owe money, I can't see any reason to wait until the middle of March, much less April 15th.
Sir Richard takes Virgin into Space
Where did he find manage to find a real Virgin?
Thanks... I'll be here all week.
insert required Star Trek reference here
Netflix has the first four seasons on DVD (I don't remember how many seasons there are total).

Heh... might be a joke, but that's exactly the name tha came to mind... Romero.
Yes, actually... Jay's not a big fan of German cars in general... most of his cars are British, Italian, and U.S.-made
