Do they really, or is this just the fad du jour up in Redmond? It's more like Uncle Bill saw demonstration of RSS and liked it as a basis to further his vision of pervasive fee-based web services, a vision where MSFT is squarely situated as the tollbooth in the middle of everything.
Sure, they have the feeds everywhere and have built the protocol into their core products, but that doesn't mean they "get it" in the same sense that you or I "get it." It's more like RSS it the kool-ade of the month, just like "security-security-security" was last January (or was it in 2004?), and "developers-developers-developers" was a few months back.
I'm so disillusioned with MSFT and its leapard's spots that never change: embrace, extend, vanquish, bugify and feature-encumber with more bugs. Then churn the non-compatible and bug-rich versions to pump up revenues.
They "get it," maybe, but only to the extent that it gets them theirs: they want to own all the tollbooths on the web-services highway.
"Google, which prides itself on the purity of its search results, agreed to give favored placement to content from AOL throughout its site, something it has never done before."
Fowles, and by that I mean the preceding edition, not the current one, which Mr. Fowles's death preceded, concurs: "two CD's" is acceptable, as is "two CDs." Alas.

The whole site gives the impression of a penny stock scam.
Finally, do you really think it will be a good idea to put so much torque on the crankshaft without upgrading the front bearing?
Also, how exactly are you supposed to extend your crankshaft in order to mount the required sproket--and why no mention of whether or not they supply the needed aftermarket sprocket and chain?
TFA goes on to quote [MS drone] as saying that Lee will be so hamstrung by the restrictions of the injunction that he won't be able to function as an operating manager; that all he'll be able to do is function as an HR manager, intended pejoratively.
Oh, doh. Thanks. What came to mind was a very long, very funny, but thoroughly obscene troll from some months ago. The troll was something about Bill Gates visiting Apple labs years ago and stealing several secret prototypes, including some cyborg-like "wanking" device, that Jobs was using, and which rendered Jobs incapacitated with pleasure and thus unable to stop Gates.
Like I said, it was a troll, but was modded Funny for a while.
Anyway, thanks.

Could be wrong, but I believe that some court decisions have overturned the laws that outlawed sodomy in Texas...in case anyone's wondering. BTW, the rangelands of West Texas have been chosen both by Amazon's founder and a Morman offshoot sect espousing polygamy with child brides as the place for them to buy property on which to do their respective things, in case anyone's looking.....
I'm a switcher. Used to always smirk at Apple fanboy types with their rabid defense of an OS that didn't even multitask. These days, however, I'm too busy to have to be a geek just to keep from being 0wned. Older with a bit more money, too. Apple just made sense. Runs OpenOffice.org out of the box...well, in an X11 box. The BSD foundation rocksolid; the Apple eyecandy great.
All this before even comparing prices. Then I actually went to the Dell website and priced what it would take to make a $500 Dell laptop to a 15" Powerbook. The difference was a few hundreds of $$, and I would still have that Microsoft POS that's a second career to keep patched and tight. I'm typing this from the Powerbook and I'm very, very happy.
Can someone who knows clarify this for me? My (dim) understanding of Windows includes the belief that IE code is used all over the OS, for displaying to the GUI, parsing files, etc., etc.
Put another way, I'm a happy, year-on Firefox user, but I worry that I'm still at risk because the IE files are still there and still used by the OS?

Can you give searchable references for this? I remember the Norwegian kid who hacked CSS using the crippled (Korean?) DVD player, but I thought he was tried at home, in Norway....not trying to start a flame war, just trying to verify my recollection.
Thanks.
Can you play MP3's on it? Not as ringtones, but as songs, or recordings or whatever--you know, MP3 player functionality. I was waiting for the V600, then no MP3 player. Later I read that adding a Java MP3 player is trivial. True?
Whatever...I found the topic interesting, and the replies gave me useful information that I'll use to secure my gf's (and my) machines.
Sorry if all regular slashdot readers aren't Uber-geeky enough to pass the coolness criterium.;-)
BTW, don't be put off by my high/. UID--I lost my first PW along the way, and don't know how to fix it. Oh, do you remember when Linux was still on comp.os.minix? I do.

The beginning of the end, if true.

So, AxeMaster, did you complete your projector? Are you satisfied with the results?

Um, could anyone explain this reference?
Thanks. Very helpful.
My God, it is. When did they sneak that lameness by? It leaves a trivializing ring to what historically has been a force on Capital Hill.
Funny--my girlfriend also said something about not needing to use the patch this week...and something else about a missed month...
Oh, wow! Cigars, anyone?

Right, wrong or just naive?
The mind reels with innovative possibilities. heh.

I feel embarassed over the fellow American's abuse of your trauma. Actually, I was enjoying the exchange until it went south. Now I *must* study.
