Don't mean to be a kill-joy, but this was IMO one of the saddest things in american history. The US navy was well known for assigning black ppl who join up to this type of duty. (There have been movies about it in the past, I believe). Loading ammo was a shit job. But the explosion but no huge deal was ever made of it because most of the victims were black. In fact, most of the base was black, due to segregation. Had this not been the case, that place would be memorialized already - likely almost as commonly known of a WWII place as Pearl Harbor.

That was also the pivotal event that eventually led to the Navy officially desegregating.

Head over to 3DBuzz and check out all of the FREE training videos you can get, which I watch religously. (Then look for the blender section.) Living out in the middle of nowhere, I can't get easy access to blender training materials terribly easy, or Maya either, for that matter. Signing a download will simply thward willy-nilly copiers. Any warez producer worth their salt will breeze by this one by either producing their own archives by simply ferreting out the watermark.

I'm not familiar with cedega, but I'm sure it's no different from any other title. If it ain't an MMO, you can't attain near-zero piracy - period.

Maybe someday, when bandwidth is free, we can write games that you simply "connect" to. It'll connect to your kb/mouse/controllers, and you'll get a video feed back, or some commands for your 3D renderer. No updates, no piracy, no privacy.

  9. The greatest of all... on On MMORPG Franchise Fundamentals · · Score: 1

In my opinion would be a translation of the 80s table top RPG "Rifts". I still GM a game myself, and it's quite fun. Some years back me and some friends begun drafting an engine that could support a universe of unlimited size (macro infinite), with a real sense of scale on individual planets, particually earth. We even came up with a way to effectively simulate other "dimensions" - populated by tons of unique and varied AI that reminds you of KOTOR or GTA at first glance. The idea was to space out players and their respective parties enough to make PvP ok, even likely. (BTW, this is an engine meant for hardcore players with organized parties.)

We had grand ideas for playing out the "magic versus technology" theme, technowizards, men of arms, magic users, "Megadamage"...even psionics were planned for inclusion in the engine.

We started developing some 3D models using the books, I still have my glitterboy "blueprint" where a friend and I managed to draft a sideview and create a nice textured 3D model.

I failed to contact Palladium books however, so the project has since been scrapped. We've taken many of the themes and have since started a much different RPG that offers more creative control than we would have to accept from Palladium and their lawyers. If I were to ever be contacted by one of them, I'd surely strike up a dialog. But until then I'm going to sit back and work on the engine with my buddies. The alternate game won't be done (done = mmog ready) for some time anyway - after the MMO craze has subsided a bit. Until then I'll try my hand at and rpg or two, possibly an RTS also. I'd write an FPS, but god knows there are too many of those for PC also.

  14. Only we can stop the publishers on Game Publishers Doing More Damage than Pirates? · · Score: 2, Insightful

the only reason developers deal with publishers at all is shelf-space, plain and simple. If you write a game and want it on display at Sam Goody, Electronics Botique, or Wal-Mart - you have to do it over their dead body.

Game publishing companies are aiming to be the digital equivilant to the RIAA, in many respects. With developers as the under-paid artists.

If the biggest dev studios (and small ones too) resorted to using their own means of publishing - such as "Steam", eBay, and Online ordering - then magic might happen.

Less hype, few patches, longer development cycles, and better games. Developers will get what they deserve, and piracy will be negligible again.

Copy protection begins and ends with cd-keys as multiplayer licenses. So don't waste your time/money on safedisc/laserlok/whatever. Piracy is forever, and you won't be it's champion unless you're running an MMOG, and maybe not even then.

Publishers such as Garagegames have the right idea IMO. Fight the power!
