Then there's the "Linux is not Windows" argument...

I don't see Macs trying to look like Windows in order to gain market share, so why should Linux? The whole point is diversity and being able to choose 'what is right for you'. If you like Windows, then use Windows. If you like Macs, then use a Mac...I like Linux so I use Linux...it's really not too difficult and everyone is allowed to make their own choices

The problems on show here are ours, not theirs.

While I do agree a bit with this, we do need to keep in mind that it is a completely different Operating System which is not the one they are use to using. I think you'd see similar results if you take a person that has only used Windows and put them on a Mac, or vise versa.

What we need is people that are well trained on all Operating Systems and be able to compare them without zealotry or bias. We know that MS or Apple won't change their OS layout unless 3 million people complain, but with OSS its a little easier to make that change.

I use Linux all the time because that's what I like, and when I have to use Windows I've replaced the typical layout with http://astonshell.com/ because I can't stand the regular Windows interface. Even though Aston runs over Windows it completely changes the dynamic and requires relearning. Things are never as black and white as people seem to think they should be.

Sorry, anyone who produces and sells something which contributes to the normalization of violence in the minds of the young must also take some of responsibility for the problems it causes.
With that thinking we should be going after the US Army for all their TV commercials that basically say "It's cool to be a part of war"

The people that make games put right on the friggin box that it's not suitable for children. If the parents are not taking notice to what their children are doing or (somehow) buying in their own home, the game companies can not be held responsible for the actions of someone else's kids!

For crying out loud, it just takes a little bit of guidance from someone to teach their kids that DEATH is not fun or cool! If teenagers do not understand this very basic concept then something was fucked up in their education process and the people to blame for that is their parents (if any blame other then the child's is needed, which shouldn't be but everyone has to blame something) and NOT the people that make games/movies for adults

Try talking to your children about good/bad right/wrong and become the one responsible for them and how they treat others.
The children are only as fucked up as their parents.

Bittorrent suits its purpose well, but it's simply not designed for super fast delivery.
super fast delivery is the purpose of BT. As others have mentioned, if the seeder is on a 'fat pipe' they will be able to distribute it to others to seed and at that point everyone that is downloading becomes an active mirror. Meaning that when you hop on this train you pull bandwidth from many seperate sources at once.

Of course there is the big problem of people killing their seed once they get the full file, which kills a little bit of the overall performance.
I maxed my connection once at 1M (personal network limit I need to fix) getting the latest Knoppix CD, because there were plenty of seeders for the torrent. This type of downloading takes a large strain off the main servers and aids in distributing the software quickly to a lot of people.

It all boils down to the more people seeding the faster it should work, if there is only 1 person seeding on a 100k line everyone has to share that 100k, so of course the speeds are going to suck.

    Less leaching, more seeding
