What the writer's guild don't understand is that Audio books are just too damn expensive. The Twilight set is offered for as much as $200. Other set's are around $100. so after buying book and audio set, you're deep in the hole.

It is their pricing model that is pushing them out of the business, not the fact there is a text to speech feature on kindle, PDF blah blah. waah.

I've been dying for a good FPS to come out for the PS3 for a while now. (haven't played any of the Resistance games). MSG4 is still my top PS3 game to date. Now i want more "game" less "movie".

I may be inclined to finally pay $60 for a new release in a very long while. It sucks, I was going to get another game the name of which I can't remember.

You sound very bitter and full of hate and resentment towards yourself, family and wife.

I've harbored 30 years of resentment towards my mother, rarely called her and told her those things. Finally I put those petty feelings aside realizing that my mother did the best job she was capable of doing working as a single mom pulling herself up the ranks of a company to put a little exta food on the table and break away from our "white trash" upbringing to live a better life.

I feel better pushing aside bitter resentment feelings.

You can date the younger, more attractive girl, just don't let your wife know. Better yet convince her that polygamy is good for the man and helps him live longer as mentioned in an earlier slashdot article. "But honey, I don't want you to live longer"

I remember the arcade "Disks of TRON" which was my all time favorite.

You were in the Disk arena against one opponent. A joystick would control your character, and a spinner thing would control where on the wall, and elevation you would throw your disk.

It was moderately challenging and after about a week of playing I could get about 1-2 hours of play off a single quarter. I think that may have been it's downfall in the arcades.

And that is how our country was formed. By a little civil disobedience in order to protect the grander goals of individual freedom. Had John Hancock and Ben Franklin been caught signing the Declaration of independence, they and all the other signers would be hung for high treason. Same goes for Washington leading armies against the Brits.

  14. Force Unleashed on Designing Difficulty Options In Games · · Score: 1

This game brought forth some ideas on difficulty. Perhaps they have it implemented and I've yet to explore.

FU has some puzzles strewn about the world. Most keys are highlighted to where you just need to find out how to interact. 90% of the answers are given. You just need to find the right combo.
It makes me think, that for RPG, or adventure games, where you need to find certain items, or interact in the world, that in "easy" mode, the answers are all highlighted in some way. turning up the difficulty, makes them highlight on mouse over, and the highest setting is like the Old School days, you'd need to click around, and "look around" to find the objects to interact.

FPS games can be tweaked as well. You modify reaction time, accuracy, health, rate of fire and several other options. Tweak the settings per level increase and let the player realize the enemies just got a whole lot smarter on super hard.

  15. Quite a stir on Seinfeld-Windows TV Ad Anything But 'Delicious' · · Score: 1

The commercial caused quite a stir. When it was released I got an email sent to a bunch of us at work with the video.

It's plastered all over news sites, and it's being talked about quite a bit. While the message told us a few important things:
    - Bill gates wears leather shoes
    - Seinfield wears cloths in the shower
    - Seinfield makes a great shoe salesman
    - Gates is a Platinum Circus shoe member
    - Gates looks beat up, tired, chunky and old
    - MS has gone into the cake business. Probably designing a cake/frosting mix that can be eaten at the keyboard without getting your fingers or keys sticky.

regardless of the confusing or lacking message the commercial brough to us it schieved the curiosity factor. People will wander into Bestbuy or Walmart, or quite comicaly a shoe store or bakery section of Shaws asking for Microsoft products.

  16. Re:Good luck to australian gamers on SPORE Released 5 Days Early In Australia · · Score: 1

Not buying the game and then sending a letter doesnt tell a company anything. The letters get lost or never reach the right person.

The way to do protest the DRM properly is to legitamately buy then game, then find a way to circumvent the DRM so that it NEVER registers with the DRM server.

In doing this EA will see they sold say, 10 million copies of Spore. But when the execs run a report to see all those juicy DRM registered copies, they'll only see 1 million or less having registered. This will raise huge red flags within the company. "People are buying our software but the DRM server is sitting pretty and idle".

Not buying an item does NOTHING when millions of items are sold. Massive distribution of DRM bypass is much more realistic and skirts legal boundries. Since we bought the game, and have the package in our house, and never redistributed the game, we have a better case for our defense.

I hate DRM you ha te DRM, protest intelligently by simply not using the portion that talks the loudest.

  17. Re:thoughts from a subscriber on New Racing Simulation Distances Itself From Gamers · · Score: 1

This is the best post on this topic i've seen. Most other posts have been uninformed speculation on how to "classify" this as a game or a sim. Simulators, while using game graphics are not games, they're sims designed for a specific training purpose (leaving aside mechwarrior and other Game Sim franchises). Try telling a person going to flight school putting 8 hours a day into the simulator that they're just playing a "game" and they'll clock you into seeing stars.

Racing is a sport taken very seriously, and also has the benefit that it can be accurately simulated on a well powered PC. Allowing people to use this at home and compete in professional leagues is a dream come true for many people. To further hit hom on how truely awesome this concept is I've dropped almost $20,000 into may car just LAST YEAR to get it up to professional snuff to compete in SCCA pro leagues. To further the pain my car isn't even done. I need another $5,000-10,000 plus a mechanic to compete on a regular basis.

To Illustrate how awesome this is:
Real Life: $20,000 on top of the $15,000 used car purchase price, $100+ per event, $100/year SCCA membership, $600 or more a year for racing grade tires, and about $3,000 for random parts that break and maintenance. We're talking a major ouch.

IRacing: $200 high quality steering wheel, a $1,500-$2,000 computer I already have and use for many other things, and a $156/year subscription plus the optional track and car purchase here and there and we're talking a savings of over $40,000. It hurts the wallet a lot less.

Also when winter hits up north, racing clubs close and you're left isolated for the 6-8 months of off season. IRacing to the rescue again.

Thank you for your honest thoughts. It really makes me want to consider selling my car and subscribing to IRacing. Ah hell who am I kidding, I love having 600 horsies pulling me around town.

I know fully well 3DSMax and Maya are the defacto standard in big shop game developers. Blender is HUGE among open source in indy game shops.

But the "other" underdog is TrueSpace. I've been with them (Caligari) since version 1. They're now at 7.6. In the almost 10-15 years they've been around they've always been under one guy, Roman Ormandi. It says a lot to me, that he hasn't yet "cashed" out on this amazing 3D hand changing that's been going on with all the other apps.

3DS started with Autodesk, went to Discreet and i think another owner, Autodesk realizing their mistake bought Maya, and then grabbed 3DSMax back. TrueSpace never had any foster parents the way these apps has, and because of that, has remained "pure" and uncorrupted.

It may be lacking in a lot of the technologies the other "big guys" have, but it stays pure to their path. The interface (though a lot more clunky than the past) remains clean and efficient to use. Unparalleled customization and tons of features I can't remember and have never used. They incorporated Python into it for scripting.

I could rave on like a Squirrel crossing the road about TrueSpace. I'll get back on focus now. TrueSpace is a true underdog in the 3D graphics field and IMHO underappreciated. I tip my hat to the team at Caligari.
