Or better yet, a secondary display ala Alex that would have an Android interface on it for playing back A/V content or even accessing the web. I know Amazon doesn't want to step on Alex's toes, but they've got to try something like this to grab more of the market. If they could get an Alex-like device down to the new Kindle's size, that would be a major hit.

  3. Windows CE Revival on Microsoft To Add Yet Another Smartphone OS This Year · · Score: 1

That's what this offering amounts to. The Windows Embedded Handheld OS is intended to run set-top boxes (think Motorola, Cisco here), GPS systems, PMPs, and other such portable electronics in addition to phones. The phones that this does go into will most likely be low-end smart phones or feature phones. M$ wouldn't dare derail the gravy train that is Windows Phone 7 that is just now leaving the station.

  4. Re:Good, but not so good. on Updated Mac Mini Aims For the Living Room · · Score: 1

I disagree with the notion that the new Mini is aimed at the living room, because this $699 box is $300-$400 more than the Boxee Box, Popcorn Hour and other less-expensive media players. It's more likely that the Mini's primary market is education and home users who want a desktop Mac for under $1K.

...or folks who just want a Mac with the latest (albeit minimal) specs on the cheap. These are just MacTVs on steroids as far as I'm concerned.

Amen to that. Rupert Murdoch and the cartel that is NewsCorp is doing a hell of a job keeping local sports alive on TV with FSN. So much so that there's a likeness north of the border being run by Rogers Communications called RSN.

There's no 'safe' way to mount an iPod in a vehicle for GPS use IMHO. The iPad is way too new to make a dent any way. When it does mature, it'll more than likely be used for digesting larger maps and travel info, an electronic TRIPTIK of sorts.

I imagine that Sony was HOPING that people that had a legacy model PS3 would trade it in on a Slim and avoid having to deal with this shit in the first place. The devices are pretty much the same except for the form factor, the fact that you can't run 'other OS'es on it. and the Slim does seem to be much more stable.

Kinda makes you wonder why their phones, cameras and other portable devices work so damn well. I've had a Webbie camcorder for a year and a half and have never had a problem with it. A friend of mine has a Sony-Ericsson phone and never complains about it. If Sony wants to pride themselves on gadgets like this, more power to 'em.

So between Telus and Rogers 3G will be compatible, but phones that also support EDGE and GPRS will not work on Telus in those modes as they lack the legacy infrastructure.
