I could care less about AOL's crappy infrastructure, but disrespecting the man for refusing to participate in a process that was illegally separating people from their hard-earned money by not allowing them to cancel in a timely manner is just assinine.
(Note to spelling Nazis: asinine is deliberately misspelled in the previous sentence.)
Probable reply to post: "Deliberately misspelling asinine? That's just asinine."
What exactly was the crime here? The article is slim on details. Was it the fact that he was using a bot? Is that against the TOS (would be my guess)? Surely, it can't be the fact that the bot "beat and robbed" a player character. If it's something you can do in the game, then how can you be arrested for that? Or was it the selling of the items online? Was that illegal? It just seems to me the article doesn't say much to perpetuate discussion.
I don't know if you knew this or not, but this is just in case you didn't. If you're behind a router, in order for the Blizzard downloader to run efficiently, you need to forward some ports as well as enable connections on those ports in your firewall if you have one enabled. My guess is that, this being Slashdot, you already knew this, but there may be someone here who could make use of this information.
Why is this modded insightful? It in no way addresses the blurb or game in any way. You don't want to watch the movie, then don't download it. How can you dis a game before it's even playable?
There are those of us who were unaware of this project who are now interested in following its progress, and it's unprecedented that an independent developer (let alone three people in an apartment) creates this type of AAA engine. Whether it ends up living up to its claims is another thing, but at least now we will be able to follow the progress.
Laser Squad Nemesis is supposedly a pretty good modern version of X-Com. It was actually created and developed by former X-Com developers, so you may want to download the demo and give it a try. I haven't been able to try it out yet, so I couldn't tell you how it is, personally. The reviews seem pretty favorable, though.
All of the operating systems suck. In one way or another, they all have their problems. I'm so bored of idiotic, pointless bickering over which operating system is "teh 1337" and which one "sux0rz." Arguing about different variants of the SAME OS is even more stupid. It's all a matter of personal preference. They all have flaws, and if you like your OS enough, you can live with them and even fix some of them. Please, for the love of God, can we get back to the stuff that matters!! Of course, I haven't seen anything that fits that category on Slashdot in months...
One thing that should be noted. Frist does not claim that we should just create a bunch of embryos for research's sake. However, there are banks of embryos that have been stored (like fertility clinics) that will do nothing else but be thrown away. Should these embryos not be used for something useful? Regardless of when you believe life begins, these embryos will be destroyed one way or another. However, the fact is that once you have some embryonic stem cells, you can clone them indefinitely and never need another embryo again! I simply don't understand Dobson's position on this.
Perhaps you should have listened to Dobson's radio program yesterday (August 3rd). He not only disrespected Senator Frist (saying he "stabbed him in the back", among other things), but he also supplied disinformation about stem cell research and possibly outright lied.
For instance, he claimed that adult stem cells are all researchers would ever need for cures for diseases. This is blatantly false. Adult stem cells are not nearly as effective or usable as embryonic stem cells. Adult stem cells are basically stuck in their current form (bone, blood, muscle, etc). It is also hard to get adult stem cells to reproduce quickly enough to cure anything. Embryonic stem cells can be coaxed chemically into any kind of cell that is needed. It would be very hard to come up with economically and physiologically sound treatments/cures using only adult stem cells.
My wife works on cancer research at Johns Hopkins University, and she was up in arms listening to this broadcast. She probably spent about 10 minutes yelling at the radio. Maybe next time you should do some of your own research before blindly standing up for someone or before trying to discredit my post without any facts.
Seriously, you live in the DC area, do you have any idea why the hell there are so many roundabouts there?
Yes, actually, I do. It's a fairly neat piece of history. DC was designed purposefully so that it's very hard to get where you want to go. The architects and city planners designed it this way back in the 1700s so that it would be difficult for invading armies to invade and capture the capital. It would be tough to get a hold of the leadership if you couldn't even find them, wouldn't it?:-)
Of course, now-a-days you can just level the entire city with a bomb, and the road system just pisses people off.
Oh, so that's why my insurance premiums are so high here in the DC area. It was Rockstar's video games all along. Silly me, I thought it was because YOU PEOPLE CAN'T FUCKING DRIVE!
There are those of us who feel like TMM, but the minute anyone says anything that would be moderate or go against the ultra-conservative right, they are immediately ripped apart.
The most recent incident that comes to mind is Senator Frist's support of more federal funding for stem cell research. He has since been ripped up publicly by ultra-right groups such as James Dobson's (*shudder*) Focus on the Family.
I find it highly upsetting that not only must those kinds of fundamentalist Christians try to force their beliefs on the nation, but also that they must resort to attacking their fellow believers in public forums in order to further their cause. This, to me, is inherently non-Christian behavior, and it makes me sad to see my so-called brothers in Christ act this way. In the end, it only serves to hurt their agenda by making us all look like hypocrits.
As I can't get to the mercilessly Slashdotted site, maybe someone who did can answer a question for me:
Are there any costs for the user associated with this? The main allure of open source software is that it's free. Although I'm sure if there are costs, it will be comparatively cheap compared to Microsoft, but when you start talking about third world countries, even small costs can be prohibitive. Will people be able to donate CDs to this project so that the project will not have to charge money to reimburse itself for the CDs?
I just recently started watching Firefly from the beginning on the Sci-fi channel (I missed it the first time around). I cannot believe that this show was cancelled! The writing is phenomenal, and the acting is great! Then again, Fox is the network of idiots that cancelled Family Guy. One can only hope that Sci-fi will pick it up if it does well in the Friday time slot. (And also that Fox lets them; isn't there some kind of legal crap there?)
Regarding the trailer, the best line by far has to be (from memory, so bear with), "Ladies and gentlemen, we could may experience some slight turbulence... and then explode." Perfect delivery. I can't wait for this movie!
The second one managed to spend a metric shitload of money on equipment
Can someone post the conversion factor to US Standard shitloads? I can't seem to find it on Google.
It wouldn't show as pirated, and that's the point. If someone had made a copy of a corporate edition (which may/does have unlimited licenses) and distributes this to all of their friends, then this Microsoft tool will do exactly nothing to catch these pirated copies. Odds are that the majority of pirated copies are like this anyway as universities distribute these to their students.

Halo 2's online modes and maps require as much teamwork as any console FPS available.
But is that really saying much?

Are you trolling or are you an actual retard?
There's a difference?
how can you know if a browser loses .60%?
1) Bend over
2) Insert hand into ass
3) Pull out number
Not if we link to your patent. :-)

but then so did [CENSORED]'s description and screenshots
Don't you ever say that name again here. EVER.

I hope I have time to get the location of the Grail written out before I die.
Here may be found the last words of Joseph of Arimathea. He who is valiant and pure of spirit may find the Holy Grail in the Castle of aaarrrrggh....
Sinister is from the Latin, meaning "on the left."
Is it just me or is this really sinister? I see no evidence that the guy is left-handed.
