Why do these people think we are idiots? Their "justification" is pure garbage.
The 360 GH 2 was going to be my first GH purchase, but after seeing the ridiculous prices for the song packs, I decided to just pass on the game all together.
"Sony Says Nobody Will Ever Use All the Power of a PS3"
So why did they make it that powerful? They could of made a practical gaming system and charged less for it.
I have about 20 hours logged in this game so far, and in my opinion it is the best FF (excluding Final Fantasy Tactics) since FF VI.
I just wanted to comment about the battle system here though.
I get what they were trying to accomplish with the gambit system, but from the comments here it doesn't seem that every does.
The gambit system enables you to come up with a strategy for the entire party. It allows you to automate all the repetitive commands you do *every* fight, while still giving you the freedom to control every action (which is definitely necessary in most boss fights and mark hunts). If I know what I would do in certain situations before hand, why not tell the game what to do in those situations. It makes perfect sense.
After the horrible mess that was FF 8 and FF X, this game really brings back all that I loved about FF. Any long time fan should pick this up, I think you'll be very happy with it.
Brain Age is a great game and we've heard a lot about it, but so far, the numbers don't indicate that it's doing what HALO did for the Xbox.
Nintendo doesn't need a HALO to do what HALO did for the Xbox. There is a whole library of HALOs on the DS. It was easy for one above average game to start moving Xbox's...but when you have such a great library like the DS has, you'll rarely see one game pull those kinds of numbers. It's spread out a bit more.
This game sounds pretty neat, but one thing I don't like is that your only source for new "cards" are by buying them or trading.
This basically means you can buy your way to the top if you wanted to.
It would be great if they had play modes where you won new cards (of all rarities) from winning a match, or were able to win cards from another person if you win the match.
That would make it a lot more fun and rewarding for the player. But I guess that doesn't make a lot of money for the company:/
I've had an HDTV for a few years now, and I still couldn't care less about console gaming in HD. Sure, I like watching movies and sports in HD, but that doesn't mean everything else is garbage now.
There are a lot of people now trying to justify their Xbox360 and future PS3 purchases by telling everyone that we need HD and that HD is the future of gaming. It doesn't make a difference gameplay wise. You're not going to get some life altering experience from playing games at higher resolutions.
We don't need it and it's not what the majority of people have, or will have in the next 5 years. When they can deliver consoles that support HD for a reasonable price to consumers who actually have HDTVs, then obviously things will be different...but for now it's just not worth it for the average consumer.
The ESRB hasn't failed to do their job in any way for as long as I can remember. What would even make someone ask such a stupid question?
The only people that have failed to do their jobs are parents.
And please don't bring up Hot Coffee or any nude mods that other games have had...these have nothing to do with the ESRB. They were either user created content to access the hidden content (Hot Coffee), or user created content to implement the nudity.
If you have a problem with this then do some parenting. Your kids are seeing much worse on the internet. Trust me.
You're right. That's anothe great reason not to support episodic gaming. I prefer well thought out stories written by people who know what they want out of the game from the start, and know where the game is going at the end.
I think "episodic content" is a horrible idea for the consumer.
It's great for the devs and publishers. They get to finish a game at their leisure, releasing small pieces at a time for a higher overall price than if they had finished a complete game and sold it for $50.
The biggest problem is that they are getting a positive response from people who are just too stupid to see where this is going to lead.
How are you going to feel when you're half way through a "game", I use quotes because it's just episode 3 for example, and the company then decides not to finish it because not enough people bought the last episode? You're out of luck.
Are you going to still care about a story 6 months later when the next episode comes out? Maybe, but not always.
Are you saving money by buying 1 episode before realizing the game sucks? Sure. Or maybe you would of done more research on the game before the $20 impulse buy, and saved yourself more money in the long run just buying full games at $50.
But don't worry, the people selling the games will be laughing all the way to the bank. At least someone made out!
If all that space is going to go towards hours of FMV you can count me out. Many, many PS2 games had too much FMV as it was...I can only imagine where this is going to lead.
" while only 8% care about motion / tilt sensing (sorry, Nintendo)"
That's like asking 1000 people if they want wheels on a boat. Oh, only 8% of you do? Sorry Nissan.
Stop associating the ps3 tilt sensing with Nintendo's product. Apples and oranges. Of course most people don't want some tilt/motion feature tacked on to a regular controller.
How did you come up with $75 for Europe...this article talks about Japan. I'm sure you'll unfortunately have to pay more than "ONLY $75!!" when the time comes.
Europe always seems to get screwed...and yes Zonk is a troll.
I really enjoyed building up a huge collection of cars and fixing them up in the previous GT games. Are the parts stores going to charge me money now as well?
Can we still win cars after races or would that be hurting the bottom line?
I just can't see myself being able to pay for something that has always been included in the game up to this point...it just seems like a fanboy tax to me.
Sony almost has me convinced that the xbox360 is the second console I should get this time around (wii being the first). I know people will say that MS is doing the same micropayments scheme, but I really don't think they're stupid enough to try and release an empty game.
You made some very good points. I agree that online gaming has opened up a lot of doors and introduced things we never dreamed of as kids. You can really immerse yourself in some of today's games.
I play just as many new games as I did 20 years ago. I appreciate the advances that have been made over the years. You have to realize that even though I obviously don't consider this the best time in gaming, it's certainly not the worst either. From your response it seems that you think I have to love one or the other, but not both.
I just don't feel that the games of today live up to the peak that was hit in the early to mid 90's. Maybe it's nostalgia, but maybe it's because I think games back then had more character.
I'd hardly classify the 80s and 90s and "pushing colored blocks around while sub-midi quality music played repetitively through your speakers". Maybe I have a greater appreciation for art style than I do for 3D modeling and texturing.
Anyways, I completely respect your views and I'm glad you responded.
This is exactly the problem with games today. Everyone is playing it safe now...it's Hollywood. Nobody wants to take risks or just make fun and challenging games anymore. There are FAR fewer good games these days. Don't let pretty graphics and sound fool you.
I can't honestly believe that anyone that has been gaming since the 80s can say that this is another golden age and keep a straight face...
I wrote a very simple program for a certain FPS a while back that would read the video memory and determine if my crosshair was on an enemy model and immediately fire...pretty simple but very effective (60-90% accuracy).
I'm not a cheater though, I just wrote it to see how easy it really is to defeat punkbuster. Aside from the testing I did with some friends on live servers, I don't put it to use...takes all the fun out of the game.
Obviously this isn't sophisticated at all, but I thought I would share it with you none the less.
No need, any sane person would wait to see if this is true for all regions...so far everyone *but* Nintendo UK says it isn't region locked.
I realize you were just trolling, but some people might actually believe this story to be true for Japan and the United States, and so far there isn't enough info to assume that.
I wouldn't put too much faith in GTA and FF carrying Sony, especially now that GTA isn't going to be PS3 only...both franchises have been going downhill in my mind.
But then again i'm weird and still live in the 80s and 90s. I don't like the direction Final Fantasy has been heading since VII, and I would rather play GTA 2 (top down), than play any of the new 3D ones.
don't need an SDK
Why do these people think we are idiots? Their "justification" is pure garbage.
The 360 GH 2 was going to be my first GH purchase, but after seeing the ridiculous prices for the song packs, I decided to just pass on the game all together.
No sense in encouraging this behavior.
"Sony Says Nobody Will Ever Use All the Power of a PS3"
So why did they make it that powerful? They could of made a practical gaming system and charged less for it.
There was nothing glorious about FFVIII. It has a horrible excuse for a FF game.
My guess is the first FF you ever played was VII.
I have about 20 hours logged in this game so far, and in my opinion it is the best FF (excluding Final Fantasy Tactics) since FF VI.

Sony doesn't hate 2D games, Americans do (most anyways). You can find a lot of great 2D games in Japan.
I think digg took that slogan already.
I would obviously have nothing to do with a console that I couldn't buy the physical copies of the game for.
Brain Age is a great game and we've heard a lot about it, but so far, the numbers don't indicate that it's doing what HALO did for the Xbox.

I don't see how any comparison can be made to TV...last time I checked you don't pay per episode of any show. You pay for channel.
I think "episodic content" is a horrible idea for the consumer.
It's great for the devs and publishers. They get to finish a game at their leisure, releasing small pieces at a time for a higher overall price than if they had finished a complete game and sold it for $50.

Only time will tell.
I must of been too busy playing FPS, RTS, and MMO's to realize that PC gaming is now a niche market.
