Software DRM isn't secure by default, it entirely depends on obfuscation. You have the key and the encrypted file it's simple really.
The patch obfuscates everything a bit more and breaks the crack. Apparently not enough because the DRM is broken again.

I have some arguments for you. Vo0 plays quake 4 nowadays and is quite good at it. Before Painkiller he played Quake 3 and surprise surprise he was good at that too.
But stating that he helped with the development of the headset is obviously a marketingtrick because everyone can figure out what is important:
Skilled fps-gamers tend to be smart also. There is actually thinking involved in games like CS and Quake. With good reflexes you can rack up some kills on a public without thinking, but as your opponents improve thinking ahead and predicting them gets more important.
Teamgames also require some good communication-skills
In most parts of Europe MSN dominates all other clients. Germany seems to be the exception. There ICQ and AIm are used a lot more. I don't have any numbers to back it up just experience:(
