  1. Re:Lego Star Wars on PC Gaming Suggestions for Console-like Fun? · · Score: 1

There's an open source copy of Guitar Hero called Frets on Fire. There's tons of songs for it, I have about 1000. You can even program your own songs into it. You can use the keyboard to play it or you can pick up a Guitar Hero controler like me and get a USB converter.

I'm pretty much a strict PC gamer myself, meaning the consols I have are the SNES and NES. The current games I've been playing are Orange Box, Audiosurf and Natural Selection . The last which is my favorite game of all time, it's a cross between FPS and RTS, best of all, it's free. The 3 games listed here are cheep (or free) so it won't cost you much to get some good games.

You can call me a nit-picker, but Dinosaurs did survive in the form of birds.

Also, even if there wasn't an extiction even it would have taken Dinosaurs much longer to evolve into an intelligent civilization. Mammels were already evolving along this path at the time. The brain of Dinosaurs couldn't grow much larger due to the jaw structure. Mammels had evolved two bones in the jaw into bones that were used for hearing, this actually made it possible for the jaw to work independantly of the skull and enabled the brain cavity to grow.

It's quite interesting stuff: The Evolution of Mammals [wikipedia.org]

Meanwhile FPS games are generally very limited. They generally few enough maps to count on your hand, and similarly few weapons.

I agree with all your post but this statement, or rather it could be right if you said most FPS games. The thing that balances out the limited maps and weapons is the human factor, people learn and so no two games are going to be the same. This is why people are still playing Counter Strike.

My drug, Natural Selection, is why I don't buy games. I would rather play Natural Selection than any other game on the market because the human interaction and competition is unbeatable by any other game I've seen. I've had just a repeat game because there are so many stradegies people can use in it. Hell, one match I played lasted 7 hours before we won! Now that was fun!

But in all honesty, I don't really care about that type of filesharing as much anymore. File sharing has moved beyond that into social networking, how many people now send MP3's over AIM or MSN. I constantly recommend albums to friends and they recommend them to me. Maybe it has to do with me already having a lot of music and I'm just searching for the new thing, but look at how many bands are offering their songs on My Space. Also, the new chat clients like Qnext have music browsing built right in so you can look at your friends music collection.

    Just my 2 cents though.

I agree. Blizzard has already cancelled two games that they sunk a lot of time and money into because they weren't as good as they had wanted them to be, and they wanted them to be above and beyond current games. If they have the control to decide plots and if they can cancel it, I think there is a chance that it will be good. I would LOVE to see them do it in CG though, their CG is spectacular. I especially love when Thrall and the Blademaster (forget name) fight Manaroth. The movements are extremely lifelike (for a fantasy creature).

Ok, I'm tired of people commenting that musicians don't work for a living. Creating music that people enjoy and that you yourself enjoy is hard work, just like a carpenter building furniture that people will enjoy and something that they will be proud of creating. Proforming that music is hard work, I play extreme metal as a vocalist and lead guitar and playing that fast, screaming that hard and expressing myself that much for an hour or more leaves a person completely exhausted. It takes a lot more effort and integrety to do that then come here to this office job and work 8 hours a day. Record and mixing music is really hard as well, I didn't realize how hard until I recorded my last album and spend time and time again going over the same thing until it was right and then sitting on the mixing board listing to the same song all day until it sounded good.

Just like a carpenter can enjoy building cabinents or tables, or a cook can enjoy cooking, what they do is what they enjoy and if they had another job, they would do that on their own time. If they can make money doing what they enjoy, why can't musicians make money doing what they want? Or how about authors, they get paid for their books. I am also in a writting group where I have been writting stories for 7 years, none of this will ever be published and I won't make money on it. But if I chose to publish something, why can't I make money off it?

Being a musician is not all the fun and glory you may think it is. It takes a lot of time, money and effort and not everyone can do it (not everyone can be a carpenter or a programer either). I'm just tired of people saying for us to get a day job, most of us do and most of us are struggling to get out of it so that we can create more better music.

No, nuclear isn't a magical resource that is perfect in ever respect, but I beleive it has a lot fewer drawbacks than many other forms of power including many renewable resources (although I still do like some of those, geothermal is great in my opinion).

Women CAN be as good gamers as men, just isn't statistically so. So what is 10%-20% less females play games than men. One other thing I would like to mention. Women don't have the ability to desipher 3d environments as well as men, they are missing some of the genetic code of gaging distance. You have all heard those jokes about how women can't tell distance or lengths, they did studies on that and found out that it has to do with their eyes. I've found that a lot of the females I play games with are better at the old style sidescroller, or any 2d game and they instantly encounter more problems when they go into a 3d environment.
