Re:Oh, grandpa...LOL, point taken. But honestly, there are very few non-advertising applications of the new browser features. I suppose gmail and google maps are nice, but on balance I'd say that flash ads, popup ads, and those new hovering tidbits that fly all over your screen make the experience a downgrade from where it was before.
Even the silly sites over-do it with tech these days. Remember "Hamster Dance"? How is "Badger Badger Badger" any better, other than using flash instead of irritating gifs?
Great, now I'll be saying Badger Badger Badger all day again...

Re:Hamster Death
For those who haven't seen this, here it is: badger badger badger
This is one of my favorite flash-animations, and yes I reallise I must be insane but I just can't help it. There's something about that song that I really like.
I tried to post the complete lyrics, but the filter wouldn't let me... -
Re:I just know I'm going to regret this...

Laissez fair worked for mebut in a more subtle wayI agree with you. I did faily well, because my mom motivated me. Not by telling me I need to do my homework but telling me that she couldn't do her homework when she was young and had to work on the farm. She was forced to quit school after the 7th grade so she could look after cows. Somehow she taught me that my school work is just as important as her or my father's job and the grades were like my salary. But I was never pressured to do homework, my parents were never on my case as to needing to do homework , or needing to become a doctor or lawer or some of those staple big money jobs.
Well another thing was, I had a minor speech impediment, not enough for me to become totally anti-social but enough to make me "uncool" to hang out with all the jocks and other "cool" people. I resented that at the time, now I thank God. All those people now live in a "van down by the river". Instead I hung out with nerds and talked about computer games, physics and chemistry. And I was actually excited to learn new stuff in school. I remember I couldn't wait to get to a new chapter in Physics, or I would look forward about learning about derivates and limits.
Well now I am a grad in Computer Science. I guess the advice I would give the highschool crowd is to worry less about wanting to fit in and hang out and make friend with smart people not popular. And I would tell parents to not badger and force their children to become something they don't want, instead incourage curiosity, learning, wonder about the world, imagination.

What About Critical Scenes Cut From TTT?
I'm very disappointed that Peter Jackson has decided not to include a very important scene in The Two Towers. One day I hope that future generations will get to see these movies with the badger scenes fully restored...

And I found this crazy little page with all of these greeting cards and things to send to all of your most distant relatives who haven't heard from you for like, ever. Oh yeah, and I forwarded this email that said that if I forward it to enough people i'll get $1,000 from bill gates! what a nice guy!

Uh oh!
The next meeting, which starts Monday, features a workshop aimed at bridging the gap between ICANN and the United Nations, which is becoming increasingly interested in Internet governance.
The UN getting interested in governing the net?
Well, it was fun while it lasted. I'm off to spend the last few weeks of internet existence with the badgers. -
Re:Wonder How Microsoft Will React
Go, Mozilla Firebadger!
Moehahaha, you made me think of this again :P -
In defense of Flash.
Why would you want it?
Because I happen to enjoy silly animations and games.
You say that as if there is something wrong with enjoying 'silly animations and games'. I do. So do many other people.
It may also be inaccessible, but every day people enjoy things that aren't globally accessible, from various forms of media and art to sports and recreation. How do you make animation accessible to those with vision difficulties? One could write a story instead, but then you have something totally different. Hypertext has been around for decades, and text itself for millennia, and they serve their purpose. Animation serves another.
There will always be people who choose a poor method of presenting their content on the web. Even without Flash, it's still possible to have poorly-navigable sites with too many fonts, and garish colours, et cetera.
The way to solve it is not to discourage the use of Flash, as if it were inherently wrong, but to encourage and show examples of good design and presentation when Flash is not called for.
This may be a niche, but I for one am quite happy that such a niche exists, and is available to Linux users. I'd like to think that one day SVG will be a better alternative and we can all switch to that, but for now there's Flash.
If you don't like it, don't install it. But don't expect others to do the same.

Disney makes sequels, sequels, sequels too
People just aren't taking any risk on new intellectual property (IP).
Could it be at least in part because they're afraid of subconsciously infringing somebody else's copyright? George Harrison got bit in the butt.
And so what Disney did was it didn't make R-rated moves.
Bullshit. Look at the Kill Bill movies, produced and published by Miramax Films, a division of The Walt Disney Company.
Or do you mean only the Walt Disney Pictures division? After The Lion King, the mean quality of WDP's in-house productions has gone downhill fast; at least Treasure Planet, Brother Bear and Home on the Range have bombed at the box office, and so did The Alamo. You may counter with Finding Nemo, but Pixar has announced it will dump Disney after the two more movies in its contract.
So what does WDP do? Sequels. Apart from Pixar, WDP is making money off Winnie-the-Pooh sequels (The Tigger Movie, Piglet's Big Movie, Springtime with Roo, etc) because it managed to buy enough senators to get Pooh's copyright (and thus Disney's life-of-the-copyright exclusive license) extended twice. See also this partial list; one reading that list could almost imagine the sequels popping up like the cliche badgers.
the most innovative game I saw was Destroy All Humans, which is destined for failure. But it is a very clever to twist everything so that you're actually an alien shooting people. It'll never sell, because it's over-the-top violent.
Gee. Tee. Eh?

They decided to improve security so we were all required to get our photos taken for badges.
