Re:You should be running Linux in 1990s
Grover: On my linux box, I once swapped out the motherboard, put in a new video card, doubled the RAM, installed a CD burner, installed a RAID array of (6) 200GB SATA Drives, and overclocked the CPU without ever rebooting it
Rusty: Didn't you reboot it a few weeks ago?
Grover: Yeah, I had to reboot to install my Thumb Drive

I'm not AC, and it's text only, but here's a riff on Rule 34 for that - scroll down to ONE HUNDRED TWENTY TWO for the Rule 34 bit, or read the whole thing to LYFAO.

How do you shout without a caps lock key?

Re:Nothing wrong with his analogy
I supposed it depends on the people in question.
that reminds me of the joke about the guy who wanted to kill every single jew and a clown
[Th3No0b] Im going to be the next hitler
[Th3No0b] Im going to kill all the jews and 1 clown
[RageAgainsttheAmish] why the clown
[Th3No0b] See? no one cares about the jews
[RageAgainsttheAmish] lmao -
Re:More recent ones
You can't type backspace on a real time phone call. Besides, if it wasn't for IRC we wouldn't have one of the most prime humor engines, bash QDB

Re:Vas Flam!
I have prior art, I was born with a magic wand!
Yes?
And do you put on your robe and wizard hat before you use it?
In Harry Potter, if you replace "Wand" with "Wang", the results are hilarious.
Bash.

Did anyone else think of this
So was this the first thought for anyone else when they read this story?
Yes, this makes me feel like a horrible person.

I put on my robe and wizard hat...
You again?! What the f*ck, I told you not to message me again.

Re:Oblig
You should have answered in this manner...

127.0.0.1
"127.0.0.1 has not been reported as beeing investigated."
How long until the government finds a loophole allowing them to investigate 0.0.0.0 or 127.0.0.1, or maybe even one of the 224.0.0.0/4 addresses? They could simultaneously investigate everyone with a single incriminating IP address!

Remote cockpunch feature still unimplemented
First things first. We need to invent a device that remotely stabs people in the face, first.

Re:Agree! Obquote
What astounds me is that Nursie doesn't understand why other people don't find it intuitive as well. The fact that you have to type in certain character strings (not even words) in a predetermined order with no hint from the prompt as to what to do, the fact that the computer does not understand near misses like "app-get install firefox" or "install firefox" or "aptget install firefox" or "apt-get firefox" is a far cry from the GUI that guides the user down a limited set of possible choices. Presumably Nursie would scratch his/her head trying to figure out what's so funny about following obquote taken from http://www.bash.org/?464385:
Then you, like many others, entirely missed the point of my post.
I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THE GUI.
Use the gui, use it if you're a newb or if you like graphical environments or if you just find that it works for you or whatever. That's not what I'm laughing at.
For god's sake....
The guy professes to have used MS DOS and Windows for two decades. Yet he finds one of the simplest, least argumented programs in existence to be scarily complicated, and goes so far as to say that even hardcore geeks are scared of it. This is what's funny. Not "OMG! N00bs can't use apt!!"
FFS, how many times do I have to explain this?
-
Agree! Obquote
Agree with above. From the GGGP:
apt-cache search
apt-get install
Yup, my head just exploded from the complexity.

Re:The Correct Post Office Analogy
And don't give me bullshit about "international stamps, etc". That's not what this is about. True, bandwidth corresponds to charging by weight, but on the internet, there are no foreign countries. Every computer is a local one. If you want to separate sites in Europe from one in the States then you may as well just shut the whole network down altogether, because you will have irreparably broken it.
This disagrees with you.

Re:Mine's Better!
I think it's better to have multiple smaller drives than a single big one. My 2 500 gigers were $65 each. I have everything important on both so when one goes, it won't be a major loss.
Keep redundancy away from Creative, though: mein leben!
Note: I own many Creative products, including soundcards, and they have yet to fail on me. (:
