And this is their statement about this group (from 4 months ago). http://news.churchofsatan.com/post/55795677751/conjuring-confusion

Re:Fireworks in 3...2...1...
Well, this group in the story is more of a trolling group. The actual LaVeyan Church of Satan is somewhat of an atheist group. But here is the Church of Satan's previous statement about the group in this news article. http://news.churchofsatan.com/post/55795677751/conjuring-confusion

Fingerprinting by a *Church*?
I've heard of "art imitating life imitating art" (and vice versa), but what do you call it when a church starts collecting fingerprints?
If this sort of thing becomes the standard, I can only imagine the kinds of abuses that will pop up...not that the actual church would abuse anyone
Oh well, at least the Church of Satan doesn't fingerprint...and they're recruiting at my college!!

Re:Get 'em while they're hotCOS? How could I confuse them with another religious group?
How about this one.

Re:FUD
--We're not really advanced, if you think about it. Man's mind is still in jungle mode, but with lack of vision, delusions of grandeur and a death complex.--
You know, I never in my life thought I'd put this on slashdot, but here goes. This is one of the Nine Satanic Statements from the Church of Satan I'm not here to argue over whether or not it's correct, simply that it's a good reply to the above statement.
7. Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his "divine spiritual and intellectual development," has become the most vicious animal of all!
I find it just creepy ;-)

Re:Did you bother to look first? No
.. in actuality the largest religion that calls itself satanism (namely the Church of Satan founded by Anton LaVey ) doesn't believe in any eternal being whatsoever. Satan, in their mind, is an archetype of human indulgence and taking pleasure in that which is classically forbidden in other religions, namely sexual pleasures and the like, and of retribution (whereas the Golden Rule of Christianity can be stated as "treat others how you'ld like to be treated", that of Satanism is more like "treat others as they treat you"). The major sins are things such as stupidity, pretentiousness, solipsism, herd conformity, and Counterproductive pride. There is actually alot to like in the generally stated doctrine ... though I generally don't agree with the 11th Satanic commandment ("When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him"). (For more information see the fairly objective treatment at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaVeyan_Satanism or http://www.religioustolerance.org/satanis1.htm or if you are feeling like reading alot of self-praise and such try http://www.churchofsatan.com/ )that said, there are some say there are some dangers to be found in the "church"
.. theres a good essay by Issac Bonewits (founder of the largest neo-druid orginization in america) at http://www.neopagan.net/SatanicAdventure.htmlAnyway
.. I'm not actually supporting Satanism .. just supporting knowledgeNamaste, Blessings from somewhere... Peace out,

Re:If I were Apple Corp...
Would Apple Computer care about someone selling a coat?
Oh for Gods sake - stop being such a whiney fanboy. All large corporations are litigious and Apple is one of the worst offenders.
They've issued legal threats to everyone from The Church of Satan (for "Made with Macintosh banner") to the (now ex) owners of the itunes.co.uk domain (registered long before Apple started selling music)
Go and register AppleMac.co.uk (or something similar) and see how long it is before the lawyers arrive. -
Re:Cutting off nose to spite face
Dummy, a real "Satanist' would by definition need to believe in "God".
According to Christians. According to Satanists, it's another story.Remember that "Satan" would have needed to be "Intelligently Designed" by "God".
Dummy.
Satan is very old and nobody can therefore have control on it and refuse others the right to use it but most Satanists are Laveyan which mean they follow the guy who founded the Church of Satan. They don't see Satan as a supernatural being but as a symbol. And not even an evil symbol.
-
Re:Cutting off nose to spite face
I'm just going to chime in here to tell you you're wrong. You can check out "What is the difference between Satanism and devil-worship?" in the Church of Satan FAQ if you don't believe me. Or you can read The Satanic Bible for yourself.

Old news
The Church of Satan already likes Apple. Apple, on the other hand, isn't too thrilled with the Church of Satan.
-
Re:Why Harry?
The GP is correct.
During the late 90s, I frequently ran into documentaries, radio-interviews and other sources that stressed the difference between "Satanists" and "Satan-worshipers"; the former embrace a philosophy of hedonism and denial of all gods, the latter mostly do their best to offend Christian sensibilities.
This is pretty much accepted nomenclature within the majority of those calling themselves "Satanists", so you really shouldn't argue against it.
Look at Satanism 101 for reference if you don't beleive me, or Church of Satan, where it is fairly clear that "Satan" is used in a metaphorical sense, and these people don't believe in the personification of the devil. -
Re:The Russian Mobsic Industry
1st - Do any of you see the hypocrisy in buying from the Russian site? Are you the same people complaining about the outsourcing of American jobs/economy?
Though I do not think I speak for all of slashdot, I think that it's safe to say that some would like to see the music industry (aka RIAA aka The Untouchables) be outsourced downward
2nd - Has it occurred to anyone that the music industry is now mob run?
Stop giving the mob a bad name. It's either these people or maybe these people. -
Re:ISO
anthropomorphized?!?!?!? That's not even a word. Have you ever heard of anything being morphized?
Hmmm, let's see. Anthro means human, as in anthropology = study of humans. So Anthropomorphized should mean "morph to human", right?
First place I ever encountered that word (and I had to look it up) was in The Satanic Bible.
;) Enjoy! -
Re:It's not that they're devils ....
Wow Apple can't win. Not only do the Christians
so do the Satanists! -
Re:God !!!!
Nah, Satan would never create something like SCO. SCO would annoy Satan too much. But doesnt your god love doing things you dont understand? And pissing off people that dont deserve it? Yep. They're an angel from heaven.
-> A better answer... -
Re:Eric should be more careful
Those doing the complaining are only dogmatic liberals and johnny-come-latelies who would twist the meaning of the constitution to fit their own world view. A world view where God has no authority, nothing is forbidden and everything is permitted.
Maybe, maybe not. I happen to know of at least one system of morality that is based on Freedom, and Freedom alone. The most important thing to keep in mind when we discuss freedom is that freedom does not come without responsibilities. Having the freedom to murder requires the responsibility not to do so wantonly. Having the freedom to throw trash on the highways requires the responsibility not to trash the environment. While some of your points are correct, I don't think that rules out the possibility that the founding fathers recognized that there are likely other religions and other systems that do not depend on religion whose participants can behave in a socially-conscious way without causing harm to society, the government, and individual liberties. Just because all they knew was christianity (a point to be debated, but conceded for now) doesn't mean they were unaware of their ignorance. Christianity is an old religion, but it is not the oldest available, and morality has been around for a long time. Current, modern American morality has quite a strong foot standing in Freedom, independent of religion. Too bad it's only one foot, with the one soaked in Christian fundamentalist shit.

Proof that Apple is Evil!

They threw their weight around here, too

Re:Is it cosher? Is it lenten? As I've stated elsewhere I don't see much utility in segregating our activities into religous and secular so cavalierly. That "any sufficiently evolved technology is indistinguishable from magic" is a caution to the scientist as much as to the savage.
There are those who define magic as "something which science has not been able to explain." Not "inherently evil". Consider that before we know something, we must *not* know it. To consider the unknown to be dangerous and evil for the fact that we don't know it is to limit growth, indeed stop it entirely. At what point does scientific research become immoral? Simple, when someone puts the knowledge gained into practice *against* his fellow human beings. I'll redefine that statement as needed to suit new life forms as they're found, but I do not feel the need to apply the statement to other life forms on our planet, at this time.
That version 1.0 came out of a burning bush concerns me not. It's validity as a concept should not be suspect simply because it originates in a religous tradition.
This will inevitably lead a person to think that they should respect religion. Consider that the stories of Moses, or at the least the ones that didn't get censored out of the Bible (or the Torah, if you prefer) were originally passed down from father to son for *thousands* of years, then you also have to consider that the Stories of Moses could well have information that is "good" information. However, the fact that it is *also* stories of religion, and therefore extremely biased, means we must question the stories with the same level of skepticism we assign to our modern press.
That's right. Because the books of Moses (and the rest of the books that didn't get censored out of the Bible) can be treated as "pro-God FUD" and dismissed the same way we can dismiss "pro-microsoft FUD". Show me something that's not just FUD and contains irrefutable facts, for *any* religion (not just the philosophical meanderings found in the Eastern Religions, and the one I already linked to).

I'm thinking of the children...
I just got a fresh batch of tracts that tell the truth about Christianity and I'm going to give 'em to all the little ones this Halloween along with chocolates.
And it's not just Sally Struthers hogging all the space. There's also plenty of blame to spare for Rush Limbaugh, Marlon Brando, and Cowboy Neal!

Apple and Religious Bigotry
As a company, Apple has a policy of religious bigotry. See here. I'm boycotting them because of this; you should too.
-
I must object to your choice of words
they're the multinational, multibillion-dollar, multi-million employing incarnation of pure satanic force.
No self respecting Satanist would want to be associated with the RIAA. As far as Satan himself, without freewill (or in this case fair use rights), where would he be? -
Re:Public Schools
well, you have to understand where they are coming from. they have to be repressive in schools because that's what school is all about: getting you in a building to 'learn' and basically become a better person for it.
I understand exactly where they are coming from. Schools exist in part to teach people the values of whoever has authority over the schools at the moment. Schools that are controlled by authoritarian, homophobic, anti-sex, Christian zealots won't allow kids to read about anarchism, gay people, sexuality, or Satanism, regardless of any claims they might make that they support freedom of speech, of religion, or even of thought. It comes to me as no suprise that controlling assholes control people when given power over them.

I cannot believe Apple!
How could Apple ask the Church Of Satan to remove their "Made With A Macintosh" logo? Whatever happened to "Think Different"? Fer Chris'sakes Woz & Jobs charged $666.66USD for their first computer! Obviously they are in League With The Devil!
-
Re:Apple/Devil - Half of the Story
You can see the parody image on the home page of The Church of Satan near the end of the page. (Don't worry, it's not that offensive.) They also tell their half of the story regarding the "Made with Macintosh" debacle.
At least the Church of Satan really uses Macs. Didn't Apple's actual "Think Different" campaign feature Ghandi, Martin Luther King, and other people who never used Apple computers? -

Walking erect?
How do I walk without dragging?
And no, I'm not dragging my tits or balls. I want to stop smoking marijuana. Too much of it here in San Francisco. My gay lover, Timothy, wants me to quit so we can proceed to get married at the 8====D -
Re:more to feed the machine
...much as we wouldn't brag about the knowledge that the KKK used it to keep track of lynchingsOr that the Church of Satan used it.

Whoa. Forget Broadband. Look at Apple's problemsAnyone read this crud? Says poor old church of satan isn' liked by Apple, and now that pervert satan critter wants to express disagreement with Apple. Poor ol' guy. Maybe 200 infiniti years in hell would cheer him up.
These are the people that pray USA dies. It's those ugly goth people. We should pray for them.
-
you're talking about APPLE?
Apple is *LESS* evil than Microsoft?! Apple attempts to sue people for admitting to using their products. Apple threatens to sue people for making Mac OS X's Mozilla's interface more consistent with the rest of the OS. Microsoft has had plenty of opportunities to do both, but hasn't. Believe me, if Apple had even one tenth the market share of Microsoft, they would be hated ten times as much. Apple is much much MUCH more evil.
-
Don't look to Apple
They tried their damndest to get the Church of Satan to remove "Made with a Mac" or an apple logo removed from their pages.
At least MS is coming outright and tell users what they can't do, as opposed to picking on certain groups because it might upset the herd.
Most americans couldn't care less about free speech and the corporations know this, and now they're exploiting it. -
Arent FoxWhen I glanced at this article, my first thought was "Arent Fox?". This law firm continuously pushes the limits of bullying people over trademark-related "crimes". Here's a short list of what I've seen them do:
- Force a "Made with Macintosh" logo off the Church of Satan's web pages.
- Threaten the authors of a Mac theme editor because "the editor could be used to extract trademarked graphics from the Mac OS" and "they must have used reverse engineering to write the software".
If Arent Fox was hired by the MPAA, they would start threatening people who mentioned DeCSS.

Re:E-meter is garbage.
To me I see no difference between Scientologists and Satanists.
Read both. In my opinion, you've just insulted the Satanists by comparing them to the Scientologists.

Re:Scientology not a religion
OTOH Lavey (founder of the Church of Satan) had some pretty interesting (though at times admittedly strange) ideas. [This comment is probably going to make me quite unpopular in this thread, methinks].
Well, not in my case anyway
:) I'd agree with you there, the ideas of the Church of Satan are fascinating and IMHO a lot closer to human nature than most religions I've encountered. And it's not really a "religion" in the traditional sense - it's more about the self than anything else. The central idea is that there is no entity called "Satan" or whatever - it is an integral part of every person and should be accepted. Anton La Vey has got some great ideas and shouldn't be dismissed for his use of the word Satan. For more info read his book The Satanic Bible, and the official site is here.
