Yes it sucks but a foreign nation doesn't owe you anything. Right now in Saudi Arabia, a young foreign girl is in jail for life NOT because the COURT wants her to be in jail but because under Sharia law, until the parents of the baby she supervised when it died (at no fault of her) forgive her, she remains in jail. The police, medical examiners and court have said she is not to blame but Sharia law rules otherwise and if you go to such a backward place, you agree to be bound by it. So. DON'T.

And it ain't even hard stuff, do you know that on the whole it is not a good idea to "argue" with an American cop. In Holland it is perfectly normal. In the US? NO! And you might get away with it in a tourist trap but in a southern state?

99% of the time, nothing will happen and then it does and you get caned for dropping chewing gum on the sidewalk.

It is one of the things you got to consider really carefully when considering a job in another country, does that country legal system and culture conflict with yours? Both the US and Holland for instance got stoners but Dutch stoners don't risk jail with every joint. You might be going to work in an industry where drug use is considered normal but will that cop searching your car feel the same? Hell, even ordinary smokers better consider the smoking laws in a foreign country.

If you are one of those people who needs a beer at the end of the day, is a Muslim controlled country really worth it? If you want to wash your car on sundays better stay out of bible belt areas.

It's an Elite-like: I develop it natively on Linux, although it runs on Windows also. However, the project is pretty close to dying on the vine for lack of any discernible interest. It's just a personal project done with no budget (at all), so wouldn't compete with major studios in the graphics department, but I think it's at least semi-credible on that front for a one-man indie game. (If curious, see Part1 Part2 Part3, though be prepared for amateurish presentation. I'm genuinely curious, since I thought there'd be some in the Linux community who'd like such a game).

It's a bit sad, but I suspect the project would have had far more interest if I *had* chosen to DRM it and sell it on Steam, but I'm about as anti-DRM as they come, even for a project I've put a year of my life into. I'll give up the whole thing before I'll allow DRM anywhere near it, even if that means it cannot succeed.

So far I have been able to use a combo of open source and commercial products to create a distributed workflow, but tying it all together under single sign on is next to impossible especially to a wiki for organizing all the fiction. Based on the leaked gameplay footage I think there's enough searching for objects and talking to people to qualify LA Noire as an adventure game, yes.

Not supporting Flash means locking people out of a LOT of websites, most notably YouTube and other video-serving sites. With HTML5 coming in a few years (yes I know it's here now, but I don't see any sites supporting it)

That's a funny argument: without Flash you can't browse Youtube, and nobody supports HTML5 ... yet Youtube supports HTML5 video for many/most videos.

It's definitely not alone. Vimeo supports HTML5 video. Dailymotion supports HTML5 video. Netflix doesn't do HTML5 but it doesn't use Flash either (it's MS Silverlight).

I uninstalled Flash several months ago and it's fairly rare these days that there's video on the web I can't watch.

Especially since you can count the number of PC models shipping with a Blu-Ray drive on one hand.

Most PC manufacturers have it available as an option.

I am sure the few people who need a Blu-Ray can buy themselves an external drive (e.g. LaCie has one).

I don't have Flash installed on my desktop. It's on my phone but I don't use it in my web browser (which is now Firefox 4 beta 2) as I don't have much use for Flash anymore.
