i've heard that someone are working to produce a beagle replacement in python

Re:LATENCY LATENCY LATENCY
Unless the drives support an asynchronous write system, which they do. NCQ will reorder the writes anyway. Latency is primarly a read-side issue, random writes are not as common as random reads.
You can always improve your seek time by adding more redundant mirrors. If we apply the formula the formula seen here where x is the number of redundant mirrors, we can calculate the value of p which will give us our rotational latency for the mean seek time (hence the 0.5 because we want the 50% point for seek times).
Using this you can get 7200rpm drives to easily outseek a 15000rpm drive by using 4 or more redundant sources, and it's still cheaper for the same capacity, AND more failure tolerant.
This is why RAID always wins. Quantity has a quality all its own. SCSI used RAID to defeat the SLED concept in mainfraimes, commodity drives are doing the same to SCSI, by playing with the same rules. -

Re:Looks real but...
The red phone that is in the same picture frame as the iTunes phone is not the same phone. The flip phone in the frame with the iTunes phone is the one that is down at the bottom. So there is no flipping on the iTunes phone. I do notice a switch in the bottom left, which might be a switch between being iTunes and phone. Flipping it turns off the colored green area, and the numbers light up. The whole thing might be touch sensitive too. http://img172.echo.cx/img172/338/phone17vd.jpg

Blame Microsoft Not Users
eWeek is being unfair toward users.
The fact is, very little software actually runs without administrator privileges.
If you have ever had to sys admin Windows desktops, you know the headaches that this involves. Many programs run up to a point and then fail, often mysteriously, sometimes giving incorrect error messages.
Even Microsoft does not get it right. Take this screenshot, for example, of Word 97 running on top of Windows 2000, which is not an uncommon experience where I work. Every time a non-admin account tries to open an existing file, this is the stupid, incorrect error message that pops up. It's madness. -

Re:IMBlaze a blatant violation
This is the most blatent GPL violation I've ever seen, I mean come on:
This, compared to this, or this compared to this. Almost completely identical, you'd think that they'd at the very least change the names of the buttons, or at least make some attempt to hide what they've done. About the only thing I can see they've changed is added some icons and changed the main login picture - even the icons for "accounts", "sign on" etc are identical.
If it ever did get to court i'd say its an open and shut case, but hey I'm not in the legal business. Maybe the GAIM team should set up a legal fund, I'd donate at least something and I'm sure many others would too. -

Yeah, it's not very good.

At first I thought 1 FPS was a rounded-up value, as it was more like 0.2 FPS... but I was proved wrong. I figured I could just wait it out, but then I realized it isn't really worth it. I understand it's promotional, but if they'd spent even 15 more minutes developing a storyline (in addition to the 5 they did spend) then I might've actually played it through. Instead I spent 20 minutes in total ignorance of who I was, where I was going, and why I could make objects float in mid air... that is, if I wasn't spending my time waiting.
Compromising game quality for graphic quality is one thing, but if you're going to go the eye-candy route then do it right and use at least a little discretion, ensuring that the game will actually play on anything other than a particle accellerator. The glow-effect annoyed the hell out of me. I found myself rubbing my eyes and putting my face right against the screen because I thought I was going blind.
I dunno. I didn't find it very entertaining or challenging, unless you consider suffering through long choppy intro sequences full of faeries and flowers a challenge. -

There is a GTK+ Webcore based Web browser
Which is based upon the Webcore released by NOKIA not long ago. Here is a Screenshot
And further Information can be found here. -
Is this a fake?
I was browsing Make which I followed to del.icio.us which showed this link First mac on intel in the wild?. Can't see any details or links etc.., could be a fake of course, but figured someone of you here might be able to do a good analysis.

Re:eMule appears to have a copy
Despite the low quality of crap that is on eMule, I decided to take the plunge and download this file, just in case it was the real deal.
It isn't.
As this screenshot from my machine shows, every, single byte in this file has a hex value of 00.
I guess this is some turkey's idea of a fun prank for a Sunday afternoon. -

New Folder is a bad name although you can Export, but I did not know this then
Things you can't see:
The way it does the windows. They snap to the screen edges, like in KDE, and resize that way too. The main window uses its own pseudo-weird MDI format. The windows don't have scrollbars, and they open the way Mac windows used to (still do?). All those shadows are mine, though.
It seems powerful, but by the looks of things most of the power is hidden. All those little windows you see at the right and bottom affect what is going to happen, and there are a lot of them. I had to keep checking on all of them to remember what I was doing. You can change fill, opacity (from a menu), brush style (many of these), gradient (many of these too), and various other things.
The one thing badly wrong with it is how slow it is. I wasn't sure how much CPU it takes, though as it made my system too slow to open Task Manager, probably quite a lot. You need to use it to get an idea of how slow it is. I eventually had to End Task it because I told it to do something complex, and couldn't see how to stop it doing it. -
