Re:You don't know anything about how it was taken.
and *BY FAR*, the most frequent objection I have heard from others to their existence is that we supposedly can't know they exist because we can't see them.
...
Obviously other no less ignorant arguments might exist, but hopefully this particular one can finally be put to bed.Two responses:
1) No, you can't put it to rest. Idiots will always argue something proven wrong no matter how many times and ways it is proven.
2) Yes but that proof is trivially easy.
"It can't exist because I can't see it"
"Then let me turn out the light and punch you in the face for a few minutes. You can't see me so the punches to the face don't exist, yes?"
Referring back to #1, there are idiots that will agree being punched in the dark means they weren't punched, no matter how much blood is about and how bad it hurts.
When they claim we can see the blood so know the punch existed, that requires them to finally agree that even things we CAN see don't prove something exists:

How is it a simple fact? I get months of uptime on all of my windows workstations (desktop + laptop). This alone downgrades your so called "fact" to "opinion", or perhaps "facts" that only exist inside your own mind.

Re:Better question
Only if you use 8 bit colors. And gifs support 24bit images, you just need to split the image in 256 color chunks and change palette for each animation frame showing each chunk, eg. https://i.stack.imgur.com/GjMP...

Hope its every bit as good as 1803
I'm consistently getting months of uptime on my W10 desktop..
Normal W10 Install - The assumption is that the average user never runs updates, is not equipped to deal with system administration duties. Nerd status is revoked and MS assumes the responsibility of administering your machine. Very Fair assumption given that nerds make up 1% of windows users anyway. "I don't want to deal with it, you guys take care of it" - is what the entire software world is moving towards. You can't pick and choose Gmail or Maps or google docs updates. iOS or Android will continue to nag you forever till you update, or you get forced updates in many cases. This is how the average user has come to expect consumer software works. Linux.. well.. nobody uses it apart from nerds anyway.
DC Managed W10 Install with WSUS - Your nerd card is handed back to you. You know what all the knobs and dials do. You deal with the system administration and updates yourself.
Pick the product that best fits your needs.

Re: Not new really
Saddam and Ozzy are mostly former allies that became a liability. Saddam was a useful tool when that towelhead took over Iran along with all that super cool bleeding-edge war gear the US sold to the Shah before. To put it into perspective, until 1979, the Iran was the strongest ally the US had in the middle east. And they stuffed so much military hardware into the country (in exchange for oil, well, you didn't expect those F-14 and Phoenix missiles to be a gift, did ya?) until it had the fourth largest army on the planet. The fourth largest army. Technologically on par with the US. And all that great war gear now in the hands of that mullah. Who is anything but buddy-buddy with the US.
Waging war there? That would've been WW2 all over again. And since WW2 the US never fought a war against an enemy that had even remotely the same technological level. The bloodshed would have been enormous. So what did the US do? Hire a likable local tinpot dictator of course. That was Saddam. The idea was, they send him some war gear and Saddam wages war against Iran to trash all those nice weapons. And Saddam did as he was ordered. First gulf war, 1980 to 1988. Afterwards, both countries were basically fucked and the Iran's weapon arsenal was no longer a threat.
Threat?
Well, yes. To understand this, take a closer look at this map here: Notice something? Well, towelhead isn't towelhead, ya know? There's two (ok, more, but two big) groups of Muslims. Sunnite and Shiite. And they like each other about as much as Catholics liked Protestants about 500 years ago.
Can you imagine who was a tad bit worried when the Iran was turned into a theocracy AND had a bigger weapon arsenal than the rest of the Arab world combined? That Red Sea isn't that wide and modern planes can easily cross it...
But I digress. Anyway, Saddam was a useful tool to trash that stockpile of weapons. But when he noticed that he can't get in (well, duh...) and turned around to invade Qatar, that wasn't part of the deal. So just like the Iran, he turned from best buddy to armpit of evil over night.
Similar with Ozzy. He was pretty useful back when he and his religious fanatics fought Soviets in Afghanistan. The US bankrolled him and shoved weapons his way. Remember Rambo III? Remember the original ending credit crawl? If not, here's a quick reminder. It changed when Osama found out that he's been had and decided to turn against the US when he found out that he was simply used as a convenient idiot to do the US' dirty work.

What the hell slashdot
I had to wait 90 seconds for slashdot to load dozens of advertising trackers.
I guess this marks my departure from Slashdot. This is a sign of what will become the world wide web for the rest of our future. We had a chance to make a difference and the same dichotomies of change that prevented TV from being a learning medium will prevent the internet from reaching it's true intent. Or in less savage terms, the golden era of the internet has already passed and like traveling before 9/11, no one will remember what it was like.
Better luck next time.

"left-leaning" ...
How do you even hold such idiotic rigid one-dimensional binary friend-or-literally-Hiter false dichotomy mindsets??
As a freaking *grown-up*?! Holy hell!Face it: You and your imaginary enemy, as well as anyone despising "right-leaning" people, and their imaginary enemy, are pawns in a very simple, very big and very old game of divide-and-conquer, that was literally exactly what the Nazis used aswell als the Soviets under Stalin, and the NSA (against 43 groups in a single year, including Occupy, Wikileaks, Anonymous and the Tea Party!) according to the leaks.
The *actual people* behind the caricature of "left-leaning" or "right-leaning" or Russian or Chinese or American or Middle-Eastern, are far closer to being your allies and fighters for your cause, than the totalitarian traitor facists on a those "sides" that washed their brains with propaganda.
So go ahead: Fight with your allies, to defend your common enemy. GREAT FUCKIN' JOB! A+!

How to be famous [Re:Many groups and approaches]
They do suffer from confirmation bias, however. If my model says there will be no warming, and everyone else's model says there is warming, I "fix" my model until it agrees with everyone else.
Less than you think.
What you are ignoring is that scientists get famous by proving the existing theories wrong.
A group that found a flaw in the current understanding of the greenhouse effect would instantly become the most famous atmospheric scientists in history... and every single one of them knows it.
The trick, however, is you have to find a flaw, and prove it's real. Asserting "oh, I think it's wrong, I can't say why" doesn't work. Finding the flaw turns out not to be easy-- a thousand people have been looking for one for fifty years now, and so far the understanding has withstood all attacks.
See this issue in action while Millikan et al calculates the electron's charge: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O...
Feynmann likes amusing anecdotes. The actual history of electron charge measurements maybe sort of shows a progression like that, but not nearly the neat progression like Feynmann suggests, in fact, the very next measurement published, Backlin 1929, was within the error bars of the correct measurement. Today, we're pulling that video off our YouTube and Facebook pages, because it contains minor factual errors, that, in sum, do not meet our editorial standards. I also want to reiterate that The Verge has zero tolerance for internet harassment campaigns, and that we will automatically disregard any feedback that appears to be in bad faith or part of such a campaign. As many of you know, we are happy to engage openly with our audiences across our platforms, but over the weekend multiple people on our staff have been subject to a wave of attacks, including hundreds of racist attacks on the host of our video. No, the Verge on Twitter started blaming racism when people started calling them out on their stupidity.

And then they'll sit there with a Republican stare on their faces, when their neighbor is caught stealing from them.
I guess they'd rather pay for their housing/meals/clothing/security in the form of prison, with their neighbor locked up as an idle member of society and the rest of his family goes on the welfare system that they don't want to pay for either.
Could have just helped him get out of the hole, to begin with, so he could support his own family, but no, now we have to pay for them, too.
Thanks, #MAGAtards. Real fucking genius.

Re:And that's why we have standards
It's probably just some retard who doesn't know their own email address. I've got a myname@outlook.com address that someone, presumably with the same name as me, thinks they own (probably because they use outlook and think that means outlook.com is their address).
I regularly get emails destined for him. He's some old coot in the UK and has daughters / granddughters who play youth soccer.
One day he bought a Kindle Fire and registered it to my email address. Amazon doesn't care to validate it, so I was getting constant emails for everything he downloaded. And I had a shiny new amazon.co.uk account with an attached Kindle Fire to play with. I promptly took over his Amazon account, and started emailing images to the Kindle email address that Amazon creates.
For example, this one: https://i.imgur.com/eWJsKZx.jp...
I gave it a while to make sure he had a chance to see the things I was sending (they appear in the Kindle library and show on the main screen when delievered, I believe). Then I disassociated the Kindle from the account and changed the account password. I'm sure the old coot thought he was HACKED. He managed to wipe and reassociate the Kindle with the same account, and reset the password himself.
At that point I knew I had him. The only way the geezer could have managed that one is by phoning support. So I then sent in a support ticket to Amazon and told them that they need to fucking clue this guy in to the fact that he doesn't own my email address, and that I have no way of contacting him but they do (from the previous support ticket he certainly filed). After a bit of escalation to the security team, someone with a brain (not a script-reading Indo-bot) got involved and told the fool that he was using the wrong email, then nuked the amazon.co.uk account associated with my email address.
I still get occasional emails meant for this guy, but no fucking Kindle bullshit.

Re:The abuse of free speech.
Are you fucking serious? Conspiracy theories and general misinformation have been rampant literally since the invention of speech. The only difference is coddled idiots no longer consider it their personal responsibility to develop a bullshit filter and expect Big Brother to weed out all the "conspiracy theories" for them so they don't have to do any critical thinking. Despite what the media might tell you, "Fake News" wasn't invented by Russians in 2016.
And keep in mind "Conspiracy Theories" are occasionally true.

Too bad for me.
But it's not because of the weather per se, it stopped raining a couple days ago.
No, I have a nasty respiratory infection that has me coughing so much, my ribcage muscles are cramping under the load. If I start shivering -- even a little bit -- those muscles go into cramp mode. So I can't be outside, even a mere hour from now.
I've photographed the sequence before, and pretty much lost to clouds around the same time the redness fully set in. I've posted it, too. But I remember how cold I was then, and that was October weather rather than January.

Re:The damage of shit talking.
Unfortunately most of the damage has been down to people shit talking the game before it even came out and then continuing, the majority of whom have never ever played it but are merely regurgitating comments made by others.
If you cannot trust the game devs whos word can you trust? The following picture was tweeted out by devs and is completely unaltered: https://i.imgur.com/Yu2ms5k.jp...

Re:Who would have thunk?
I never went to see what they actually have in the game after reading about the whole "saying 'white man'" being censored in-game. Is saying "white man" still being censored in in-game chat?
Never heard of that.
So you're saying you got no clues about what you're talking about? Never heard of this? Just look at what the developers published on twitter: look at top left corner: the image is unaltered. WHITE MEN! WHITE MEN! WHITE MEN!
Not being funny but you're the one who's decided they don't need to know anymore after learning of an issue with the chatbox of all things. I know about what is in the game now (apart from the chat box apparently). I'm not fully up on every single pre release thing that happened.

Re:Who would have thunk?
Can you tell me how many made it into the final game? Oh yeah, zero. That shit was cut fast but you wouldn't be able to tell from all the people seemingly still frothing at the mouth over it.
Why should any of us buy a game made by literal racists to verify their racism? Just look at this image originally published by DICE developer: "WHITE MEN! WHITE MEN! WHITE MEN! (top left corner of screen)" The image is unaltered.
That along with this is a dealbreaker.
The responsibility is on the developer and publisher to communicate clearly. They dropped the ball big time on this. -
