Today's Jerkcity seems apropos:

If you're wondering who Rands is...
If you're wondering who Rands is, he's also one of the "writers" of Jerkcity, probably the best nihilistic/deep/nerd/software webcomic out there, which you can find at http://www.jerkcity.com/ Jerkcity also spawned http://www.leisuretown.com/ which is the ultimate examination of life expressed in a webcomic.
-
Re:"People", not "humans"
It's called "managing humans" because it's written by an ex-software developer who, like other software developers, was good at managing code, bits, and other impersonal things, but needed to find out how to manage humans, which was totally out of his comfort zone.
It's full of humility and is about as far from your interpretation as you can get. But then again, the author is also one of the mob behind jerkcity, so LOL DONGS.

But what would we do without Jerkcity?

Jerkcity
Why does Jerkcity never get any of the recognition it so justly deserves? They've published a new comic every single day since August 18th, 1998. And every one of them bursting with quality and tasteful humor. See for yourself. It is without a doubt the best webcomic out there.

That Hexus site...
That Hexus site is one of the most anoying I've ever seen. Every other word is highlighted with a sponsored link that's often not related at all to the subject at hand. It seems to me that the whole point of that site is to have mildly-useful content simply as click fodder.

FreedomInternet comics expand the boundaries of humor on a level print, because it is more easily censored, never will.

Re:Other problem with Fractal Mapper-
Boy oh boy, that's funny.
Microsoft Chat is licensed in that they claim no responsibility or ownership of the material created with their tools. It's the same as the license provided with Word and presumably Office.
Microsoft Chat extensively uses Jim Woodring's artwork and yet the guys at Jerkcity have been making (meager) money with their online comic with the publication of The Big Book of Jerkcity. -
Re:Terahertz transistor within reach?
God, that was stupid. There's a reason these web comics aren't published and remain web comics. Most of them suck donkey balls. The only half-decent web comic is Jerkcity
-
FWIW: It's Rands', and...You do realize that you're referring to a guy who, for the past couple of years, has been writing a web comic about HUGE DICKS SLAPPING YOUR TENDER MOUTH (etc)
...right?BTW: The last line of your post gave me a very big zen hardon.

Re:Are you kidding me?
It was coined by the gentleman who runs Jerkcity (not safe for work). Jerkcity characters tend not to mince words.

Re:Hard habit to break.Yeah, it just happened to me today. I was Coding my unit test first for a bit of code that returned a C++ string. Since the function wasn't written yet, I wrote a skeleton function to make the test fail. It could have returned a null string, or "This function is not implemented". However, I had just read too much JerkCity , so, of course, the skeleton function returned "Diagnosis: Gay."
It made me chuckle every time the test failed. I stopped chuckling when my boss's boss came in to ask what progress I was making. As soon as his back was turned, I changed the failure string to something more... neutral.
Maybe it's a good reason for the Extreme Programming practice of pair programming - to prevent you from doing something "funny" that will get you in trouble.

Sin City is okay, but...
when will we see a http://www.jerkcity.com/ movie?

Re:ob Penny Arcade response:
That would be a great "question" for when slashdot interviews the creator of Jerk City. To put it into the form of a question: "What's with all the cocks? Why not more wang?"

Re:MS Chat?
Microsoft Comic Chat still lives on ... just not as MS envisioned :-)

Re:MS Chat?

Re:-1 InformativeWhat does this have to do with...
Who cares? This is
/.! Nobody reads the article, and I got modded up instantly! All it takes is a few lines of text with a few links in it. Why bother doing any more? -
Re:Where have I heard this before?

Re:To be fair to MicrosoftSo now you're telling her that she has to spend $100 on a Windows XP upgrade *and* install an OS that will be very noticeably slower on her machine? You're telling her that Microsoft made mistakes and now Jane has to pay for it?
$100? That's a BARGAIN compared to what Apple charges for OS-X.

Microsoft used to have another product...
Microsoft used to have "Comic Chat" which turned IRC into comic strips. It's been put to good use by our friends at Jerkcity

I think the fine gentlemen at Jerkcity would take offense to that statement.

A lot of modificationPineapple on a lot of modification! Shared everything: in this, each disk is connected to all the data. standard apps like SAP etc can be used in other ways (you could run a web site off an Itanium 2), but the segment that Cray, SGI, HP Alphaservers, etc. have traditionally dominated.
The segment that doesn't give a shit about cooling, power consumption, or price-performance, but who just need to break up data judiciously and spread acros s machines. Also adding a node will require re-partitioning of data. Mostly only custom apps which are fully aware of your partitioning etc will be able to take advantage.
It is also likely cheaper than a similarly equipped Itanium 2 server would easily top $6,000. But anyway, good game to Lawrence Livermore. I'll be curious to see if Apple has another volley to fire before the top500 list closes for this round.
- "When you want to occasionally hand-tune code segments in assembler, etc."
Anyways, I'm not a fan of Intel lately, but the Itanium could have been a good choice. ALSO: Don't forget that the Itanium 2 is $1398 per chip on Pricewatch, and a dual processor Xserve.

Re:the ARTICLE is as big a waste of time
So you're suggesting to the guy who helped create Jerk City that he should read a book by the guy who created Dilbert?
I know which one of those comics I read and enjoy on a regular basis, and it sure as almighty hell isn't Dilbert.
Go Rands. -
