Coral Cache Link!!! Use this!
Coral Cache link, and at least page one is there.
Use this one instead of the submitter's link!

Maybe try a Coral Cache url instead of linking directly to Hexis http://www.hexus.net.nyud.net:8090/content/static

Re:Naked People
The only half naked person in your link was the dude.
I preferred the full naked picture. -
Re:Naked People
Those guys at mirrors.playboy.com have to be careful.
For anyone that missed the jest, check out mirrors.playboy.com (it is WS). One of my favorite places to suggest when somebody asks where they should grab one of a few Linux distros. It's also a handy way to explain to your boss why you were visiting the playboy.com domain.
That and hey! When you support Playboy, you're supporting Linux! Go Tux! (He just got more than most Slashdotters I'm afraid... :) -

I liked the cover on the old version. You know, the one with the half-naked people
Can't go wrong with naked. Well, you could I guess, but I wasn't on the cover. -

Easy solution!
Validate Slashdot's Coral Cache! http://slashdot.org.nyud.net:8090/
Anyway here's the Coral Cache of the W3C validating the Coral Cache of Slashdot! (can't get any longer than that :P )
http://validator.w3.org.nyud.net:8090/check?uri=ht tp%3A%2F%2Fslashdot.org.nyud.net%3A8090%2F&charset =(detect+automatically)&doctype=Inline&ss=1
And here's the result:
1. Line 18, column 40: there is no attribute "LANGUAGE" .
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript" src="http://a.as-us.falkag.
2. Line 303, column 25: there is no attribute "ALIGN" .
<div class="ad2" align="center"><!-- ad position 2 -->

7. Line 638, column 54: document type does not allow element "INPUT" here; missing one of "P", "H1", "H2", "H3", "H4", "H5", "H6", "PRE", "DIV", "ADDRESS" start-tag .
<input type="hidden" name="link" value="freshmeat.net">

13. Line 1340, column 10: end tag for "NOSCRIPT" which is not finished .
</noscript>
(Hmmm weird, the next time i ran the validation it only gave me 12 errors). Anyway, that's all - considering slashdot used to have around 300 errors, this is quite an advancement. The first errors are probably a missing opening <form> tag.
A workaround (tho I don't know how effective) would be replacing the freshmeat data with an IFrame :D to keep the errors hidden. muahahahaha. -

Re:Slashdot
``In this one the highest rated comments are of the variety "I like open source but linux isn't ready for your grandma"
...''
That falls in both the pro-F/OSS and the "Linux is hard" categories. I also think Linux is _especially_ for grandma, because she won't be playing games (the one thing Linux does lack), and she won't want to deal with the hardships of keeping a Windows or OS X system up to date and cleaning off the spyware. See also Linux Superstitions Exposed before you throw the Linux is hard crap at me.
`` ...and "open source zealots should realize you have to use the right tool for right job"''
That's right. Having said that, I haven't seen that kind of comment for a while. But perhaps that's just the recent deterioration of quality on Slashdot - possibly related to it being September. -

Here are the LSB 3.0 Release notes. I'd appreciate it if somebody explained if there is a significant or revolution or something. Thank you.

Let's change c-jump!
How about using tiles like in Spy vs. Spy?
Have one big program and different courses of action (like if's / while's).
The tiles can have programming sentences or evaluations, and you could add or change sentences in ANY execution line. (yours or your opponent's).
Who knows, you might add some conditional loops or something!
The first one to do N iterations wins :) -

MOD PARENT DOWN
Parent is a troll, repeating the typical Linux software is hard to come by / hard to install FUD. Read my essay: Linux Myths Exposed.
On to specific issues:
``I've been using Linux for many years, and the problem of obtaining software packages drives me to the end of my nerves.''
Probably because you haven't been using Debian. I've had those problems too, but never on Debian. The thrick is that Debian has good package management software, AND a huge selection of high-quality packages. If you don't have either of these, yes, then you're going to run into problems.
``Every single time I try to get a package that isn't something extremely common like Apache, I run into major, major problems.''
Bullshit. Even other distros than Debian get many packages working that are not ``extremely common like Apache''.
``Distributions distribute every package known to man anyway.''
Now, even a contradiction? First, you say you can't get software, and now that distros ship every package known to man? Mods?!?! +5 Interesting?
``Even with the source, half the time I have to make all sorts of include changes. What is so hard about providing a common build and install process? If you get Apache, OpenOffice, and Mozilla to adopt a convention, everything else will follow.''
More bullshit. There is a convention. The ./configure && make && make install process should work for most software on Linux. Almost all major software, and a lot of minor software too, uses autoconf.
This is utter crap. It's not so much that an Anonymous Coward is posting this troll, but the fact that it gets modded up +5 drives me up the wall. Argh! -

No. I think you misunderstand the point of Uncyclopedia - go and read it through Coral Cache and you will see what I mean.
or as they say Arr, Pirateopedia.
Amusingly enough, someone (since you've posted I believe) has added this to the top of the front page:Ahoy, me hearty and welcome to Pirateopedia (formally HMS Uncyclopedia), the duty-free encyclopedia that pirates can edit Arghh!

Hey, Cool!
So how much do I need to pay to get my software advertised on Slashdot?
- mailvisa: simple bayesian spam filter in Ruby (beats most filters in Debian w.r.t. performance, precission, recall, and memory usage)
- logalize :analyzer for Apache log files, written in Perl. Simple, so it's easy to customize.
- wake: remotely wake up machines using wake-on-lan magic packets (written in Perl).
- detach: start commands detached from the terminal (keeps them from dying when the terminal exits)
- chrootexec: run commands inside a chroot jail, as a normal user.
- Perlcookies: random quotes from fortunes files (nice for sigs), but much smaller than the fortune package. Written in Perl.
More on my website, and many more on my harddisk, but these are the more useful ones. While you're at it, take a look at my esasys. -

Re:They're still winning
``Linux on the desktop is as far away as it when I started using it four years ago (ask your non-techie friends), MS are still kings of the hill.''
It's all inertia now, and indeed that has been the case for years. Linux is simply a better option for many desktops (particularly office and school desktops). However, switching takes effort and retraining, and thus isn't worth it to many people. The distinctions between "good enough", "better", and "everybody should switch to" are very often overlooked, but they're nevertheless there.
I know that some of you will want to spout the typical anti-Linux arguments at this point. Before you do, please read my essay Linux Superstitions Exposed. If you have something more to say after that, I'll be glad to hear it. -
