Penny Arcade already has commentary...
http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3
And, as mentioned in their news for the comic, this itself is old news. They've since taken up the cause of promoting a Irish lad who has been waiting in line for Turok 2. Why? Only the boy himself could know, apparantly. :^)

Re:Good For Apple, Good For Us
2) Cost. I cannot aford a Mac. I wish I enough money to buy one. I do not resent the people can because they have this much money, nor am I particularly impressed that you have that much money. I do not hate you because you own a Mac, please do not look down on me because I don't.
Mac people look down on someone? Nahh :-) -
"Switch" campaign is preaching to the choir
The current Apple advertising campaign has been characterized by some as a bad way to get converts because of its negative tone. Many of those who have weighed in on the ads characterize the ads as "preaching to the choir". Frankly, the campaign has actually engendered a backlash against Apple as typified by the mocking found in this recent cartoon.

great company, great computers... they just don't have a clue about advertising successfully.

Re:12 cm or 12 inch?
Yeah, but the difference of the area of two circles in relative terms is (r2 - r1)^2, not (r2 - r1)^2 * pi.
I think I need a new sig:
Don't be an elitist asshole. You're just going to look like an idiot. -
Re:So, what *UX flavors have good Norwegian suppor1) Mac OS X has turned out to be the best, most reliable and most user-friendly of ALL UNIX distributions.
This is a claim, not a fact.
2) Do you really want me to list all the things KDE/Linux does wrong or rather the ways they have to go to reach OS X level of ease of use ( hah...I can hear your blood boiling from here)?
Again, no fact, just an ignorant statement.
I could go on
Baseless claims and ignorance.
Yes, I believe you could go on with that.
I posted a link to several problems of the MacOS UI.
about having a CONCISTENT interface being a number one priority. But I'll leave you with just one example: Font-handling.
KDE is very consistent. Much more than the mix of MacOSX apps with MacOS9 apps and completele inconsistent designs like Quicktime thrown in.
Regarding fonts, I happily use those who came with my distribution, what's wrong with that? And yes, they include ø and æ.
If the Norwegian government needs some fancy font, I think the Linux-distributor of their choice will happily include these fonts in the install.
Transparency, a mouse optimized for beauty and huge pictures instead of icons slow down productivity. Yes, when you first use a Mac, it's a nice experience, but half an hour later, all the eye-candy just gets into the way.

Re:MPEG-4
"What would be much more insteresting is if they start using MPEG-4 as the "default" codec instead of sorenson (e.g. on apple.com/trailers)"
Err, that's the plan... you fucking moron!
Expect to see Steve Jobs' keynote streaming in MPEG4 goodness, where he'll annouce iTunes 3, which will allow us Macintosh users to also listen to MPEG4 audio (AAC) on our iPods.
Once again, we're ahead of the curve in the world of multimedia. Once again, we're a couple of years ahead of you. Yes, we're elitist fuckers, and happy about it! -
The iron is hot, Linux/Apple
(qualifying statement time)
On my network I run NT4 (2000 seem to dislike some GIS software) on the workstation and linux (redhat 6.2 interanlly, 7.X externally and Slack 8.1 for testing/speed on lower end boxes) and have been slightly vocal about what I'd like to see, personally.
People who do GIS where I work often lament about the lack of "long haul" stability of NT and pine (pun lightly intened) for the Unix days when a process of an entire state can and would run for days to complete w/o a worry.
That thought in mind, if OSX86 came out (or moved to Alpha/Power4) and could run the bulk of the heavy lifting in GIS you bet I'd be pointing out "this could be worlds better than what we have now".
Norway has it right; it is *not* about being against Microsoft, it is about choosing what is the best for the job. And between the decling of Dell's support and annoying NT4/win2k problems that only reformatting take care of, well I'd switch as a (ahem) "way out" because I believe the better product should win, not because I'm an elitest a**hole. -

Not pushing OSX?
What a joke, not only are they pushing it, they have annoying ads. I think that THIS comic sums it up really well.

penny arcade's takeI'd suggest checking out penny-arcade's review-as-comic here. Often as not, they're spot on about shit games.
It's a fun comic at any rate... check out the not-so-subtle point about the xbox controllers!

Re:Red Hat users note
dpkg never had this problem.
Don't be an elitist asshole. If you don't understand what the problem really is, don't comment on it.
This problem has nothing to do with rpm. The problem that Red Hat advertises WRT Ximian is that an upgrade may not upgrade all of the GNOME packages, since Ximian's may be newer (and this is the correct behavior, according to any packager). However, because some packages may be updated, and others may not, you don't have a tested, known-stable GNOME platform. dpkg and apt don't do anything special that prevents that from happening. -
Re:Suck It.
Actually, I think that this hat is more appropriate.

Suck It.To all my dear friends who gloated that the long-awaited Halo would only be available on their beloved tool of corporate domination, I have but one thing to say.
I got a new hat.

You're right.

Proof this is true:
Today's Penny Arcade comic pretty much sums up this argument.

Re:May be smarter? Not the funniest strip, but it gets the point across.
And, as my Java-guru brother once thoughtfully opined: Mac vs. PC, Sun vs. M$...they're all Borgs with crap for us to purchase.

Elitist attitudes
Hey, you know what, just because of this kind of stuff, I'd rather stick with PCs than go with a Mac. Macs are overpriced. Those with money or think they have money, or don't have the money and still want to be an elitist snob are many of the people who buy Macs (ok, so I'm generalizing, but so is saying that Mac buyers are more educated. Correlation!=Causation - Just because statistically speaking, Mac users have better education, doesn't mean the more education you have, the more likely you are to buy a Mac)
I prefer to think that lower income families choose PCs because they are more affordable, and in the long-term, a better choice because more people in the world us PCs with Windows, and if they are betting their $1000 investment on a computer for their children, they'd choose one that more people use. Buying a Mac is more of a luxury for many people.
It's like buying a car. Would you rather buy a Mercedes/Lexus/name your luxury car, or would you rather buy a Honda/Hyudai/name your regular car? (Damn, I'm gonna catch hell for mentioning these makes like that). The answer is, of course, it depends on what you can afford. Of course we'd all like a better made, better looking, and possibly safer, but certainly more luxurious car, but can we afford it? How will we use it? Will we use it as a utility vehicle, doing all our errands, etc., or will we drive it around to show off?
So it is with the PC and Mac debate. If you want to show off, can afford it (I know, some models of the Macs are lower in price, but in general, PCs are more affordable), you can get a Mac. But for many, less educated people, the PC is a no-brainer.
Oh, also take a look at this -
Of course they are
Penny-Arcade tells it best.

About your sig (Off-Topic)
Switch.
This has to be Apple's dumbest advertising campaign yet... I pretty much agree with this assertion
I personally don't respond to low key insults very well when deciding on a computer platform :) -
Re:Armed Agents Raiding His House
Ironically, what if this guy had been playing something like Rainbow 6 as his house was raided!
Penny Arcade had an interesting take on that idea a few weeks ago ;). -
Better print everything out?
Looks like Penny Arcade is ahead of the curve =)

Seconded - Tie Fighter
I wholeheartedly agree. Unfortunantly, the "general concensus" does not agree with you, as they've never played the game. (Despite it being released several times.)
Heck, even paid game reviewers who are big Star Wars fans haven't played it. I don't even think the famous Gabe has played it, nevermind all the other "kiddies" out there. Alas, even in it's newest re-release, it still doesn't have enough eye candy to draw in the younger generation. They'll just go on with their lives thinking Rogue Leader is the penultimate in Star Wars sims. Bleech. -
It's been tried ...

America's Army / Senate / Resumes
Don't you get it? Think about it.. the Army creates a computer game and releases it July 4 in an attempt to get good will with the 31337 QU4K3 D00dz..
This is just the same thing: the House of Representatives releases support and DTDs for an awesome, buzzword-compliant, flashy XML technology on July 4 in an attempt to get good will with the hacker nerds :)
A quick question: the url just talks about the House of Representatives. Will the Senate be using these as well? Why not? Wouldn't you think that Congress would want uniform reporting requirements between both houses?
Either way, Senate or no, newest-standards-compliance or not (be polite and maybe they'll even fix that), this is really, really, cool. Maybe this is a first step toward making it so that at times that the government wants you to submit electronic documents (for example, resumes, or comments during the public comment period of an antitrust trial) they will accept DocBook.

Re:Good point on their hardware.
There is ONE type of product that M$ does well, and makes an honest living with - Input devices. This is the ONLY area where I've seen them actually innovate. (Mouse wheel, first company with an all-surface optical - The grid-pad opts from Sun don't count). As long as they stay far away from software, they're golden.
Perhaps you've never heard of the monstrosity called the xbox? -

I dunno, I'd say this pretty clearly outlines the most important reason that Magic online will suck.
