Bone conduction anyone?
Does bone conduction cause the same problem? If not, Vibe Body Sound Headphones may be an answer.

That's exactly what the makers of the Kiwi were thinking - you get a 'Kiwi Score' to determine how eco-friendly you are:

For the low low price of $289, you can actually turn your mileage into a game courtesy Think Geek.

Encypted USB
Put your real data and OS on a bootable USB drive. Keep it separate from your laptop. Encrypt. When asked about the laptop, boot and demonstrate the installed OS if necessary.
If you are afraid they will investigate the USB drive, make a bootable SD card with your data. Keep that in the your digital camera or camera carrying case. Few would suspect your OS and data are stored there.
You could even put your data on your USB watch. -

Re:Try a few of these free games...
But we're talking about netbooks here, they don't typically have 3D cards.
I just recently bought my first netbook, the HP mini-note from Thinkgeek. It came with Suse/Novell Enterprise Desktop Linux. It was terrible. It took 20 minutes to go through a setup procedure, and they wanted me to register my system's serial number to get access to security updates through Yast. It came with RealPlayer and Gaim (not Pidgin!) and no software to use the built-in webcam. The interface was a mess, it seemed like Suse/Novell wants to be selling Windows really bad. It's no wonder people don't like "Linux" when this is their first experience with it.
I feel relieved to be running Debian with a lighter (than gnome) window manager.

Re:only 640x480
I'm imagining this projector combined with a Bluetooth Laser Keyboard. With a mini computer made out of Gumstix or something.

Already available at Thinkgeek
I bought a USB-powered compressor-free fridge several months ago, and it works great: http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/accessories/96b3/ Move along, nothing new here.

Re:My secret and Thinkgeek's secret
Thinkgeek does indeed have some nice charging stations. I agree with you about the cell phone, as far as what you carry around. The only things I carry that need daily charging are my cell phone and earpiece, but I have the Portable Electronics Charging Station and love it. I added a receipt spike, so everything from my pockets—wallet, keys, sunglasses, receipts, cell phone, earpiece, and pocketknife—goes in one place when I get home. It hides most of the cords and looks like real furniture, which allows me to keep it out and easily accessible without my wife complaining.

Re:Gaaah!
Nah, drum sets are only annoying some of the time. Try this
A coworker once told me he built a "mosquito emulator" along the same lines, (i.e. sounded like a mosquito buzzing around your ear) but which had a light sensor. It only started the sound once the lights were off, and it went quiet if you turned them on. In other words, exactly like real mosquitoes behave. Then he hid it in his parents' bedroom. They didn't sleep much that night...

Re:Drivers: HUH?
I find that Linux, and especially Ubuntu has much better support, and behaves better than Windows XP.
Mass Storage devices: just plug in, and they are ready to go very quickly. No need to install drivers if you plug it into a different port.
GPS: same, it emulates a serial device so that GPSBabel can handle it easily.
My odd mouse had drivers built into the kernel by Ubuntu, there was no "insert CD to use this mouse" stage.
And that is on an AMD64 Ubuntu computer. How is the driver support in Vista 64-bit?
Ubuntu on my HP/Intel laptop found everything just fine, and the Wifi even worked in the LiveCD installer.

Re:You wonder?
Use a hidden camera.
I like this one , it's hidden in glasses and can take pictures of what ever you look at, is triggered by a small remote control. 1GB memory.

Re:One for the Christmas List
There's also this new one, which is basically the same size as the DelFly Micro, can hover, and has double the flight time. It doesn't have a camera, though, but considering TFA claims the Micro's camera only weighs 0.5 grams it would be easy to add one.

Re:Why would anyone give Google honest information
If you were to post this article and replace Gmail with Microsoft's Hotmail it would be the end of the world and slashdoters would be rising up in the cafeteria to stab them with their plastic forks.
That should read 'plastic spork' -- or better yet Spork of the Gods!

Re:"only people with enough money... "
Of course. Earthberming a building could cause the end of all life on earth and requires at least six years of specialized training. Yeah, right.
I wrote as long a list as I did precisely because people's skills and resources vary. Are you telling me that "most people" have neither the skills not the money to buy a solar powered battery charger? I mean, hey, twenty-five bucks is serious money and it's hard work getting those little suction cups to stick to the window. Converting a car to biodiesel? If something that low on risk wasn't viable, half the projects posted on this site would be even less so.
solar panels . . .burn buildings down and electrocute people to death.
Unlike, say, using a backyard barbeque grill? C'mon, how frequently do homes get burnt down by solar panels? Especially since most put out 24 volts of power or even less. You're seriously pushing it here. I gave a bit of thought to the things that I suggested before I posted and not a one is limited to people with any more money or skill than is required to build a nice gaming-optimized PC. In fact, you could start with a little unit from thinkgeek, about as /.-friendly a site as there could possibly be.
I'm not claiming that the average American should put up a dozen terawatts of photovoltaics on their garage. I'm saying that most people, certainly most /.ers, are capable of taking at least small steps to reduce the need for megaprojects in the first place.
Looking again, I should have put more emphasis on small starts, on things like battery chargers. As it happens, I just finished writing a blog post in which I did just that. But as for your concern about "the masses" not being able to handle something as simple as a wind turbine, dude, you're on the wrong site. What do you think "free as in speech" is all about? I posted on a site that's all about taking control of the technology around us, about not just curling up and waiting for some huge corporation, whether Microsoft or General Motors or General Electric, to tell us how they are going to run our lives.
We stop paying attention, stop keeping involved in "the means of production", and we're all screwed. -
Re:Moving parts? In 2015??
A voice interface for something meant to be used in public places strikes me as a terrible idea, unless it uses a microphone quite close to your mouth, which is less than convenient.
And if the 3D projector is supposed to replace the screen altogether, it's going to be pretty hard to have any privacy in public too. At least a laptop can be turned away from people. Also, virtual keyboards suck ass. There's a lot to be said for tactile feedback, and a good reason that laser-projected keyboard hasn't taken off.
I'll keep my physical laptop, thanks.

If I recall correctly, thinkgeek has a UV light they sell that will do the trick. Using it is also more cool than using the sun, in more ways than one.
And the link is...UV Disinfectant Wand.

Blatantly a tux toy.
For all my *NIX & FOSS zealotry, I can't help but respect what he's brought to the world. His & MS's achievements have been broad and they've paved the way for multiple industries. Maybe I wouldn't be writing this on a Linux box if it wasn't for Windows :) -

Re:screaming monkey?
Others have already mentioned SpiderMonkey being the current Mozilla JS engine; there's also plans for ActionMonkey, being the marriage of ActionScript (i.e. Tamarin, the Adobe JS engine) with SpiderMonkey.
Oh, and IronMonkey for possibly running Iron[Python|Ruby] (i.e. CLR-ish things) with Tamarin.
It's also easier to buy screaming monkey mascots.
