Re:Don't let religious people have a say here
"The thread heading is bone-headed by the way."
Agreed... I chose it to get attention to the argument. Some would call it being an "attention whore", which, by the way, is an entry at http://www.urbandictionary.com/, but not in http://www.wikipedia.org./
;)Still, the abuse here is fairly innocent. It is just a disgusting picture of someone have a toothbrush next to the genitals or something along those lines. People won't get seriously harmed in that. What is a worse abuse I guess are those subtle astroturfing changes which have political motifs, or, the pathetic self-aggrandization uses of the term "prominent family".

Back to the Future
Slackers all! With no draft, manual labor out of fashion, Ritalin, and most physical activities in decline, young men have turned into slackers. I've seen it coming ever since 1985. For those of you who don't know -- http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=slacker and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ndJNXCkNxg . Hell, most are not even getting laid! Women are taking over. When they do, they will have to deal with a nation half-full of slackers. Be careful what you wish for.

Re:Um, No?
Are they nuts? I don't want any outside site having control over my clients' sites. If they are hacked this would give the hackers a quick way to affect any site that signs up with them. Well intentioned (I hope), but count me out.
I was thinking the same thing:
Me: (reading).....bat signal for internet... "that sounds good"..... participate in future protest..... "great!".....sites would respond to the call to "defend the Internet".... YES!....... "add a bit of code to their sites "...... um, ok, ya, sure, banner or something, i can see that........... " in extreme cases blackout the site"............ WTF NFW
Are they serious? They lost 99% of their support from that one line, "in extreme cases blackout the stie". There is no way in HELL anyone would add any code to their website that would black out the website automatically .
but according to their website that's not how it works:
"we'll send you sample alert code to get working in advance. The next time there's an emergency, we'll tell you and send new code. Then it's your decision to pull the trigger."
... what? So, every time there's an emergency, i'm updating code? What sense does that make? LOL come on guys! You can do better than that! First it's blackout site, now it's update code every time? Just automatically trigger a banner or something, don't make this more difficult than it has to be. -

Re:Consumer friendly?
I guess they mean "friendly" as in "those two were getting friendly last night" or "that movie exec thought copyright infringement was "content theft" and also had an annoying boner, so he got friendly with everyone's internet traffic in the hopes he could catch one of his films' sex scenes".

He clearly doesn't have a neckbeard. Either your dictionary or you eyes need checking.
Going by definitition 3 on Urban Dictionary, that is exactly what I've always thought of as a neckbeard.
Facial hair that extends underneath your chin and onto your neck.
Of course, I'm sure it's not a standardized word either.

Re:He still draws a check from Infosys? It's even worse - he has a duty to mitigate any long-term loss to his own income. So he can't just say, in the damages portion of his ongoing lawsuit, that when they finally get around to stopping his paycheck that he's going to lose future revenue for $x number of years down the line.
He absolutely should be using the $1,800 a week they're paying him to prepare for a new career, or to set himself up to work independently, rather than complaining that he can't quit because
... wait for it ... they're paying him good money to do nothing but sit around his home.Instead, he's abusing anti-depression meds and traquilizers, boozing it up, and pointing guns at strangers.
White trash about sums it up. "I can't try to do something else because then I'll lose my corporate 'welfare' check." Call me a whaaaamulance.

Re:Error My Ass
I have never heard that term use to refer to Obama
Then you haven't been listening. Second result on Google. First is ubrandictionary defining it as "A play on Barack Hussein Obama II's last name, citing his roots as a typical Apefrican, bongo beating, bush monkey."
That strikes me as a "macaca" charge: and attempt to create racial animosity where none exists by inventing new terms or new meanings for them
Considering that the phrase "welcome to America" came right after the word macaca (aimed at a natural born citizen, by the way), I don't think that the word's usage was anywhere as innocent as you're trying to paint it.
If you're trying to link this incident to other attempts to introduce racial animosity, you could pick better examples. -

Re:What is wrong with pornography?
Seriously, I can't understand you US and UK people.
US person here.
Are you jealous when other people look sexier than you?
Hmm, I suppose a little? Mostly I'm just thinking, "wow, he's hot" and firing up my own imagination.
Still, I can bet that 99.99% of you wank.
Yup, just did a few minutes ago, to *gasp* gay porn even.
And did so as teen too.
Also yup.
Stop being so fucking jealous.
Hah, will do.
I have basically nothing against the porn I see. The guys know what they're doing, are of age, typically get paid--even going gay-for-pay is their own choice, so that's fine. Dangerous practices like barebacking (anal sex with no condom) start to trip my sense of "that's wrong" and I typically avoid depictions of them. Child porn is a definite "no", though actually I'm alright with a guy wanking to non-exploitative pictures of children so long as he doesn't do anything harmful to an actual person. If someone is somehow forced into making porn that's also a definite "no". My view is certainly skewed towards the types of porn I like and might be substantially incomplete. For instance, I don't know enough about straight porn to really have an opinion there, though I imagine it's similar.
I have no particularly extreme fetishes, so I don't really know how I feel about apparently controversial things like fisting (inserting a fist into an anus), pissing (on your partner), (gay) incest, bondage, etc. As a rule, so long as the people involved aren't being exploited in some way and nobody's getting hurt in any way they don't want, I'm fine with it (porn or other). Child porn is the only type I can think of that I support being illegal. Mandatory default filtering seems extremely problematic and simply not worthwhile--just watch your damn kids already, accept that they're sexual beings starting around puberty, and stop treating sex as inherently dirty. I don't really care what your holy book says in this regard since your kids are real and blindly applying ancient wisdom can really screw real people up.
In the US we unfortunately have a very vocal segment of extreme right-wing nutjobs (that's the technical term). They feel entitled to speak their mind because of a long tradition of protected speech, and so they do. Most of us ignore them, though there's no denying they have a large audience of willing idiots. I take a little comfort in the fact that many of them are getting old and will hopefully die soon (eg. Rush Limbaugh is 61; Pat Robertson is 82). Unfortunately up-and-comers like Ann Coulter and Sarah Palin are pretty young, so I dunno how things will work out.

Re:Feminism. Glad you accepted it now guys?
It's about giving women a chance to do the same things that men are doing - like run a business, smoke a cigar, and play golf in a golf club
OK, so now that women can do all those things, what are feminists fighting for?
you have no idea how large your advantage actually has been
Yeah, because men like me who grew up in working class families had so many advantages in life compared to women who grew up in suburbs and had private tutors to help them get into college -- where women now make up the majority. Feminists love suburban women, because they are best able to live the feminist ideal of self-empowerment. Symbols of success are what feminists really care about -- running successful businesses, smoking cigars, and playing golf. Feminists are not interested in women who work on railroads (like my mother did), because it conflicts with their own preconceived notion about what everyone wants.
Women ARE better at certain things than men are
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=BFD
OK, cool, women are better at some things. Men are also better at some things, but where are the people parading those results in the media? Nobody tries to "level the playing field" when it comes to things that women are better at, unlike people who want to make fire department physical exams less challenging so that women will have a better chance:

Re:And the report was paid for by...
How about some whishy washy quotes for you "ranking often in the top ten of international countries". So what exactly is their interpretation of often. "International Country" now WTF is that meant to mean 'er', countries that are more than one country versus many domestic countries or just crappy 'fluffy' wording.
"Canada's broadband Internet metrics are often in the top quartile among these countries" they sure like that word often. Now who are 'these' countries really. Not to forget in one paragraph Canda has dropped from the top ten too the top 25%.
Also they love talking about average rather than specific and tests without defining at what 'time' bracket the tests were conducted. Perhaps the tests in say Canada were conducted at excatly the same time, say off peak in Canada, which just 'er' happened to be peak time in say Australia.
As to cost did they include the caps and $50 excess usage charge charged at $5.00/GB. For example if you were to buy and download a legal DVD for say $10, Rodgers were turn around and charge you say $20 for it, youch better be downloading pirate divxs rather than legal dvds. When it comes to steam, forget it.
Rodgers' rodgering http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=rodgering it's customers at every opportunity, including making them pay for junk reports and feeling good about it.

Re:This isn't news...
Gees numb nuts, I don't have to read those crappy News Corps rags everyday, or watch those crappy Fox not-News channels everyday, there are a whole range of web sites that do it for more and show the highlights 'er' lowlights. You know, I don't have to hit my head with a hammer to know it will feel good when I stop, I don't have to walk with my shows full of rocks to know it will feel better when I stop, I don't have to starve for days to know it will feel good when I eat, I don't have to eat chemically laden artificial junk food to know I well feel better when I eat fresh organic and of course my mind doesn't have to wade through cruft http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=cruft day in day out to know I will be far more intellectually satisfied when I obtain my news from better sources.
The crazy idea that I need to read News Corp rags and watch Fox not-News everyday just to appreciate how bad they really are, seriously WTF. I have only got so may free hours in the day for news so I simply go to better sources , now that's common sense. As for the News Corp and Fox not-news lowlights, I wag my head in disbelief and thank people for doing the hard yards of wading through that cruft for me.
Here allow me to save you the pain, you obviously seem to be suffering http://www.newshounds.us/, http://www.fair.org/index.php, http://www.oreilly-sucks.com/, http://mediamatters.org/, http://www.prwatch.org/
