How so? How do open borders = death to the working class? Our most productive time in American history saw a large amount of immigration. The minimum wage ensures legal citizens are paid at least at the same starting point. Oh, you must mean those illegals, right? Can I assume that you're familiar with supply and demand and accept that overall it is a good explanation for things? There are many more employers than just Bob the CEO. Immigration, both legal and illegal, creates more workers. For the existing citizens this may or may not be a good thing, it depends on their circumstances. If you're Bob the CEO it's a great thing that there are more workers. If you already have money it's also a great thing since you now have more customers / renters / etc. If however you are a working person who is trying to earn a living there are more downsides than upsides. More people means housing costs go up. Traffic goes up. Schools are more crowded. Wages stagnate or sink. So yes, open borders == death to working class. That the party that claims it is the protector of the poor is pushing open borders is just too rich. The scale is too big for open borders to even succeed. Actually it is well documented. Technology in he classroom has proven to disrupt learning not enable it. The higher cognitive functioning technology was suppose to allow has not materialized. In fact the use of technology has shown students regress in simple tasks.

Technology in schools was always about sales and never about education.

100% sincere request: I haven't read any studies that proved this either way, so if you have citations, I would be very interested in reading them.

That being said, I don't think it was a matter of tech can alter brain chemistry, so much as the fact that there are things that can be demonstrated in an interactive environment. For example, allowing students to use drag-and-drop interfaces for math, or make things disappear to improve simplicity in visualization, or using colors to separate nouns and verbs in a sentence, or showing the Coriolis effect by showing the youtube video of two guys on the opposite side of the world draining swimming pools.

The problem isn't that tech is useless, it's that people who buy stuff for schools seem to think it's possible to budget for a palette of laptops and a few access points and then kids are going to 'just learn it'. Teachers, who are already overworked, underpaid, and who have a wide gamut of experience ranging from "Office 2010 in high school" to "the old guard who used WordPerfect 5.1 in college" to "zomg I have an iPhone but I don't know how to work it, teehee", to "Yes, I actually know how to use this stuff, but I am disallowed to have admin credentials"...and the decision makers didn't budget for training or had the following plan for implementation:
1. Acquire Chromebooks.
2. Tell teachers to teach students to use Chromebooks.
3. ???
4. Tell parents that they are teaching technology in the classroom.
5. Profit?

This ends up with royally inconsistent results that lean toward the lowest common denominator of "kids can log in and use the obvious parts of Google Docs". Sometimes it's a bit better, and sometimes it's a bit worse. I remember reading a Slashdot comment a few years back of a school that did a 1:1 iPad rollout, and the kids had to take spelling tests on it, but the app they used didn't disable autocorrect.

Because of this wild inconsistency and so many people involved, it's not that classroom tech can't be done well, but it's very rare to have the desire to do so in every step from the superintendent on down to ensure that proper training and support structures are available in order to make it the case.

tl;dr: When tech in the classroom is done properly, it can indeed be an asset. However, that ideal has so many points of failure that it is incredibly rare to not have those initiatives backfire in some way, some more spectacularly than others.

I suggest the problem is not compression, per se, but the brute-force application of compression in the post-production phase - and especially in the audio mastering process. There, the compression isn't being applied to a single instrument, or to a sub-group of instruments within the overall mix. Instead, it's just used to make the whole recording sound louder, by discarding all the dynamics in the mix, aside from periods of actual silence.

It's that ham-fistedness that makes much of modern pop music - and dance pop, in particular - so profoundly unlistenable to anyone with a trained ear. Or even a vague grasp of the meaning of the term "subtlety," for that matter.

In general, it's not a good idea to blame the tools for the shortcomings of the workman. The customs of modern music production are, I think, an excellent illustration of how and why to apply that maxim ...

You just reminded me of this. TL;DR: the rich under fund the government, loan the gov't the money to operate and collect the interest on it. Then we pay the interest with our tax dollars.

Check the bottom tank on that page - 700 bar, 52L. Given there are 9.17 MJ/L for compressed hydrogen, that's about 476 MJ of energy. At ~278 Wh per MJ, that is equivalent to a 132 kWh pack - about double a Model 3. So a small, 38 kg tank has the same energy storage as a pair of Model 3 battery packs. Tell me again why batteries are good? Less energy density (by weight or volume), a lot longer to charge, and provably more damaging to the environment (the environmental cost of making a 132 kWh battery pack is huge compared to the electrical energy needed to compress 52L of hydrogen).

Most people don't want their car to blow up. Hydrogen is difficult to store and requires you cooling it so it actively requires continuous input of energy to keep it stored. Its best use is for grid scale storage but requires certain energy market conditions to be profitable. Basically, the energy prices need to swing at least 2x per day due to other intermittent power sources. Good news is that that happens in CA and Germany most days. Bad news is that nobody other than energy traders want the prices to swing that much everyday so its hard to invest in up-front infrastructure costs when you can't be certain such market conditions will continue. Same problem for most other storage schemes, unless you can be certain that energy market will continue to be very volatile, you can't risk such a large amount of capital on something that might become useless at some point in the future. Operating the Helms pumped storage is like printing money for PG&E yet there are no plans for them to build another one. There are 2 private plans for pumped hydro in CA but they are small, years away, and highly speculative as their cost of raising capital was on par with nuclear.
