Re:Good, talk about professional victims as harass
Right, so Randi did it (if you can find those tweets). What about the rest? Just because one person is an arsehole doesn't mean everybody vaguely related to them is
Sure can find them here. and another instance here. Or her harassing Anne Rice, and leaving fake book reviews. Pretty good for a anti-harassment person, she does tell people to kill themselves and light themselves on fire often too. Of course there seems to be a pro-"no bad tactics, only targets" mentality among the majority of anti-GG people including making shit up. That's from Bob Chipman by the way, there's also people like Sam Biddle who's harassed and threatened to call a kids employer to get them fired, and said the phrase "bring back bullying." You can't forget the general crazy either.
And of course you can find a list of various people who've either doxed or harassed pro-GG people here. And you can see how someone falls into the cult mentality of wanting to be a "good feminist" here Just a list of anti-GG harassment and of course this beauty where Adem Sessler and Jim Sterling come out pro-doxing Well maybe it's nothing, or maybe there's a lot of people out there with serious mental problems who believe that lashing out is the only way to cope with their own problems.
Maybe way out of band of what you asked but I'm tired, so fuck it.

Ring the Bell for Mental Health
(DISCLAIMER: I don't give a shit if you trample my lawn) Just 'grow up'. And find the right folks to hang around with who you trust to supply honest and direct feedback on your progress. In growing up I mean.
Growing up means fixing yourself on a 24 hour cycle of basic habit, eating, pooping and sleeping at the same times every day, including 'weekends' because your biology recommends it. The week is an artificial construct and what everyone calls the Monday and Tuesday blahs is usually jet lag from the weekend lack-of-schedule. Be awake the same times of day, every day and if your work schedule is harsh, compensate by taking a brief nap when you get home from work before you do other stuff, and longer afternoon naps on the weekend. No sleeping in late, always rise at the same time every day and give it a go, at least for awhile.
Growing up means you decide when it is time to sleep and do it, literally stare at the ceiling in a dark room until you either fall asleep or it's time to get up again. No screen watching or phone twiddling when it's time to sleep and then you whine to your friends and doctor, "I just couldn't sleep! Pity me! Medicate me!"
Never mind the broken childhood or unfulfilled dreams or loony parents or voices in the head. Even collecting weapons is cool, the world is full of armed persons who don't kill people. You're probably not really paralyzed or hung hung up so much by that stuff as you are ready to use it as a stupid excuse for doing stupid things anyway. So just don't do stupid things. Unless you're able and willing to try my simple 24 hour schedule before you seek help you're probably on a narcissistic road of advice dismissal anyway and have a fun time on the way down, hope you can afford the meds and side-effects. If you drink alcohol, well happy day what the fuck --- you drink alcohol. It's your liver. But drink it at the same tie every day and when you lay down set your alarm for three hours and drink a big load of water to flush your body and prevent your waking self from becoming a desiccated science experiment.
If you are not diagnosed with anything that makes the doctor machines that go 'ping!' start pinging, then fuck you if you're unwilling to try my simple advice. You're a burden to everyone else and the sooner you realize that and grow up the better. You can even pretend it was all your own idea and I'll be just as happy. Because I love you all and we're all Bright Giant Love Balls bouncing around so free!
I'm like a bright giant love ball, bouncing around so free
Out of the night that covers me,
a bright giant love ball, happy to be me
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I'm like a bright giant love ball, shining for all to see
I thank whatever gods may be
I AM SPECIAL! I AM SPECIAL! I AM ME!
For my unconquerable soul.
So let us dance, oh let us dance,
In the fell clutch of circumstance
be happy, be happy let us dance,
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Oh let us dance, oh let us dance,
Under the bludgeonings of chance
let us dance and laugh and sing and shout for joy!
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
I'm like a seed that I planted, so young and so small
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
needing to be watered, so I'll grow strong and tall
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
friendship is my water, my sun the warmth of love,
And yet the menace of the years
I will grow and grow and grow and grow and grow!
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
So let us dance, oh let us dance,
It matters not how strait the gate,
be happy, be happy let us dance,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
Oh let us dance, oh let us dance,
I am the master of my fate,
let us dance and laugh and sing and shout for joy!
I am the captain of my soul.

Re:In other news....
Combine that with other studies which demonstrate that increased compensation lowers productivity, where the sweet spot seems to be 'enough so that pay ceases to be an issue'. This has been known for ages and reproduced in repeated studies and tests, but strangely always ignored in the corporate world where the people in power usually got there because of greed.

Re:It would be fun teaching robots
If you taught robot "A" to disconnect the power on robot "B", and that gets into the database, you could make robot "B" learn to spend all it's time protecting it's power connection!

Re:Doesn't matter
I'm not saying you're saying this, but just wanted to point out, the solution is not to revert to the one child policy or remove the child limit policy. In fact the source of the problem is education and economic development. By education I mean raising the general education level of the population and not just 'educating' people to not do certain stuff.
This problem occurred elsewhere in the world, with other ways of old-style, feudal thinking. Once populations are educated and their economy provides them with a stable existence then people naturally come down two having a few children instead of many.
I get my source from Hans Gosling and his analysis of UN data. During his presentation he shows you the UN stats on how the population crisis is being solved, by raising education and wealth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Re:Vantablack anyone?
Black is an interesting color.
Black paint absorbs 90-95% of light, the military has Z306 that absorbs 96% of light (and is used for paint as well as coatings for telescopes). NASA has developed materials that absorb 99.95% of light, and Vantablack is 99.965%. The ultimate black is of course, a black hole which absorbs all light (barring quantum phenomena that results in hawking radiation).
The human eye cannot comprehend sucn black - since our black objects all reflect significant amounts of light back. Looking at Vantablack or this, your mind actually sees a hole and doesn't register that there's something there.
The American Chemical Society better explains this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
true, black as a color is just really dark white

It's only half the sugar that's bad.
Sugar (sucrose) is two things -- glucose (also called dextrose) and fructose in a 50/50 split.
"High fructose" just means 55% fructose, 45% glucose.
According to the scientist in this lecture (link below), it's only the fructose that's bad for you, no matter what percentage is in your source.
Fructose is found in fruit too, but that's not as bad because fruit is also high in fiber, unlike a soda or candy bar. Fiber seems to mitigate the fructose.
Also, fructose is almost as bad for your liver as alcohol. Soda or beer. Same difference to the liver. (There's a whole lot more fructose in a soda than there is alcohol in a beer.) Think about that the next time you five your kids a soda.We switched to using dextrose instead of sucrose and increased our fiber. The results were notable.

And we need to stop reacting to news of privacy violations with dull acceptance. We need to fight back and one of our best tools available is to campaign hard to regulate the industry."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?...They aren't even the same video!
If you're the content owner you shouldn't have some asshole claiming that it is theirs especially after you have allowed them to use it for free. Even the general public who copyright infringe on music/movies/games etc don't claim that they made that thing, they do it to watch/enjoy it. The copyright infringement that sony was doing is the WORST kind of infringement by claiming ownership over something which wasn't theirs. And its really unfair that that guy had to waste his time fighting it because even sony wouldnt get that from the general public.

Re:Always the same nonsensical "reporting"
Long before the Magnavox, the Intelivision, etc..
You mean the Odyssey II? Well it and the Intellivision were more like the 2nd or 3rd generation of consoles, depending on you count them. The first video game console was the Original Odyssey, released in 1972. Yes, that's right, 72.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
Predates the dedicated pong machines by 3 years. (those started hitting the stores in 75)
I don't suppose anyone knows, off hand, when the first 'personal computer' arrived (do we go with the early micos)?
I do, Altair 8800, 1974. But it and the other s-100 machines were a toys for bearded engineers with soldering skills, a teletype to hook up to it, and money. Not mass market.
Personal Computing didn't really start going till the release of the Apple II, Commodore PET and TRS-80. All of which post date the Odyssey 1, Coleco Telstar, Atari Pong, Fairchild Channel F, and other early consoles The famous Atari 2600 came out in September of 77 after the Apple II (June) and TRS-80 (August), but before the Commodore PET (November).
Atari TV commercial from 1977:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
Lets just say that video gaming on consoles was already BIG money in 1977.PC gaming as a commercial thing really didn't get going till computers sold in large enough amounts for selling software to be feasible. That would have been about 1979 or 1980. Those would have been limited runs for the Apple II or TRS-80. Games like Temple of Apshai ('79), Sargon chess, and Flight simulator I ('79 for the Apple II, '80 for the TRS-80) I remember seeing commercial games in stores (not just mail order) for the VIC-20, which was the first computer to sell a million units.

Mickey on You Tube
When steamboat willies goes into PD, anyone can upload it to youtube. Anyone can make movies about a dancing mouse on a steamboat, and even use the same music that it's paired with it etc. But that mouse still can't *be* Mickey Mouse; nor so similar as to be confused with Mickey Mouse.
Disney posted Steamboat Willie to You Tube in 2009.
If the geek were honest about the thing, what he has in Steamboat Willie is simply a tech demo of synchronized sound. The only other reason to watch it is to see Mickey, Minnie and Pete in their earliest, but still recognizable, form. Now fixed and trademarked.

using examples and rational argument to make points
And this is the hilarity. Seriously, you have to be some conspiratorial nut to follow her rational. Sexists developers make sexist games make sexist gamers. Mind you with zero supporting evidence aside from cherry picking and opinion filled fluffy dialogue. Let's also not forget using "research" as in, trying to use scientific words to give credence to her opinion pieces. Her "research" doesn't pass any level scientific scrutiny or competence.
"players are meant to derive a perverse pleasure from desecrating the bodies of unsuspecting virtual characters. It's a rush streaming from a carefully concocted mix of sexual arousal connected to the act of controlling and punishing representations of female sexuality"
About Hitman, a sandbox game where you do't have to do any of that. In fact, the game punishes you for it. Sexual arousal connected to your choice of controlling and punishing representations of female sexuality when you the player chooses to be abhorrent??? Is she upset you were given the choice but then "players are meant"? How in the blue fuck is that rational?
Women are just trophies for sex because men saving them demand sex!
There are no strong female game characters!
Honestly, all she deserves is snarky youtube videos. You don't need anything else to debunk her. That which is presented without evidence can be dismissed without evidence. She cherry picks evidence or makes shit up. Either way her opinion is overrated Jack Thompson 2.0.
Thunderf00t does exactly the same thing, except he has a giant neck and not an attractive liberal female feminist. I have heard Anita's ideas debunked numerous times. I haven't seen TF's rebuttals to her debunked. All I see is character assassination attempts and ignoring the ideas he presents.
