Nah, just stamp "ADL" or "SPLC" on it, then it's above criticism and reproach. Unless you're a hateful bigot, of course, and who wants to be accused of being one of those. Then once it has "trusted flagger" status across the board it can enforce "community guidelines" any way it sees fit, with no input or transparency with the public at all. the manufacturing jobs aren't coming back. Even if the factories do they'll have so much automation they're never going to employ the kinds of numbers they used to. There's multiple studies showing this. We've doubled our manufacturing output in the last 40 years while cutting our workforce by 1/3 ( source).

Thing is this is why Hilary didn't think it was much of an issue in the campaign. She's trapped in an iron bubble and she thought people would be reasonable about manufacturing jobs and just accept they're not coming back. Of course, if she wasn't such an arrogant **** (substitute your own curse word kiddies) she'd have offered up a solution to the jobs problem besides "Hey, I went to a posh college and graduated with honors, so can everybody else". Trump for his part saw millions of ex factory workers being ignored (well, Paul Manafort did, he's the one that told Trump to campaign in the rust belt on jobs).

The emulators have actually added precision and perspective-correct texture mapping:

So the geometry is still simple (but what complexity is there is better preserved at distance thanks to the added precision) and the textures are still simple (though xbr scaling does an admirable job of upscaling them), but resolution, geometry instability, and texture warping can all be improved on modern stack.

Question is whether Sony is availing itself of these advances or not.

No argument whatsoever, brother. However, FYI, one Linux distro does avoid that shit for the most part and that's Devuan (and Slackware and a handful of others). Problem for me is, I still prefer BSD after tasting it. Once I understood that Linux was just a box of parts and BSD was an engineered whole, it made sense to me why I had always sensed so much suck from Linux. I missed out on 386BSD. Was a Linux user (SLS and Slack mostly) from 1993 until around 1998. Then I started playing with NetBSD off and on, but mostly ran Linux for the display drivers up until about 2010. Then after rotating between Free, Net, and Open BSDs for a few years I gave up on Linux completely when Systemd gained acceptance in Debian, Fedora, and RHEL. To quote Rollins: "At first I didn't see at as kind, but you did me a favor when you left me behind." BSD has just rocked so much harder. I do still keep Devuan around on a USB drive to play some games, though. Hehe, sad, because that's what I used to say about Windows.

I'm happy hand soldering 0.65mm devices and I have done 0.5mm. It is easy enough to do if you are careful however my preferred method is to get a £30 stencil and use solder paste together with hand placement. I then chuck it in my £30 oven and get results good enough that my customers assume that it has been made on a pick and place machine.

Yes it takes a bit of practise and experience but certainly no expensive equipment.

Companies are what they make and what Apple makes and sets their products apart is software. The hardware in an iPhone is really barely different than any similar Android phone. A Mac's hardware is nearly identical to any Windows PC. What Apple sells people is the software in a pretty box. People who think Apple is a hardware company don't understand their business model.

See here for a rough guess. It'd different hardware, but it's more or less what I'm expecting these to be sporting.

The trouble is I've seen laptops with the mobile version of the GTX 1060 in them for under $900 bucks and, well, they out perform Vega and draw less power while generating less heat. The problem isn't that Vega isn't good, it's that nVidia's offerings are still better.

Who hasn't seen the (usually live) video of long-suffering weathermen standing out there in a shiny wet rainjacket or suit, being blown away (and the godz alone know how the cameramen manage).

What's a computer? Oh, how about a general-purpose device that you can attach peripherals to, like a USB..., oh... ANYTHING AT ALL? Better still, a device with upgradable components... (iPads don't meet EITHER of those criteria.) Something you can use a mouse pointer with if you don't feel like having finger smudges all over your screen? (Possibly my LEAST favorite thing about the iPad, especially trying to use the iPencil with it, where it glides smoothly until it hits finger oils, and suddenly the coefficient of sliding friction changes... REALLY annoying.) How about a device that can be used to boot whatever operating system you want, or run whatever program is compatible with it without first getting your "computer" manufacturer's permission, as if you need their permission to do things with a computer YOU paid for... (and generally letting them take their "cut")? Sorry, the iPad is NOT, (as far as I'm concerned,) a real computer. Not a real, multipurpose, reporogramable, multifunctional computer. It's a computer-like device in tablet form, which though yes, it does contain a programmable multipurpose computer, but it has been dumbed down, handicapped, maybe even crippled, when compared to even a modest, real, actual computer. I'm not sure if Apple, (or whoever made that ad,) meant the main character to come off as such as smug little smartass, but that's the impression I'm left with.

I'll believe the iPad is a real computer, among other things, when I can:
- Use a mouse with it, in addition to an external keyboard. (And it would be just DANDY to be able to attach a wired keyboard via the lightning port.)
- Run LibreOffice on it. And Gimp. And a host of other pieces of software that WILL run on a Mac, (which has the same basic OS underneath... or at least, iOS and macOS-X have the same basic Unix underpinnings,) without having to "hack" it, or break it out of jail or whatever. Mostly I'd like to run F/L-OSS stuff on it, and it CANNOT.
- Plug other devices into it, like a USB hub and a printer, a scanner, etc., besides the mouse. (Oh, and the iPencil is NOT a mouse.)

There are other things I have in mind as requirements before that thing can be a real computer, these are just off the top of my head.
