This sounds too good to be true. Lower power consumption, no blurs or trails with graphic frame rates, brighter colors, sharper images, thinner/smaller form factor, low radiation.
It also does your taxes, makes julian fries, and lowers your cholestoral! Never needs sharpening!!
It been rumored that Apple would bring OS X to the x86 and has a working version in secrecy under penalty of death to whomsoever relveals it. Apple knows that they have something that the Linux/Windows geeks really want, just like we want the iPod to work under Windows.
I hear stories of how many weeks went by to get DSL working when I had Cable Model from RR ordered and working on the same day. I went to TW's RR location, picked up my Cable Modem with instructions, went home and installed it myself in 5 minutes. I've had RR's cable model for over 2 years, probably 3 by now, and I've used every Windows, Linux, and a few Mac OSes with NO problems. RR doesn't even care if you use a router, but they won't support you, which is fine by me.
It is very rare that Big Business is shoved back, just a bit, with all of their arogant lobbyists. The people have won, for now. I just hate it when the richest people make decisions for the rest of us.

Red Hat and Mandrake still have a lot of room to improve in terms of being easy for Windows users to pick up on.
I agree. I would put myself in the computer geek category. I can compile a kernel and trouble shoot just fine, put data warehouses for enterprise applications, but sometimes I get so lost in Linux. Take my experience with Mandrake just a few weeks ago with the release of MDK 9.0. I had to download, compile, and configure my nVidia drivers; configure my dual monitor display manually in XF86Config-4; compile a new kernel just so I could download, compile and install my IDE RAID controller. AND THEN, to get the driver loaded permenantly I had to jump through hoops and find out myself. The documentation said nothing about putting the driver module entry in/etc/modules.
There are a lot of places in Linux that can be improved. Don't give me the line, "You are a newbie. Anyone who is ANYONE knows how to do this in the command line, 3l33t3, word to your mother!" I just want it to work, I don't have to learn the ins-and-outs.
Someone should make a utility that will automatically download nVidia drivers, compile them, install, and configure X Windows, ALL IN THE BACKGROUND with no user intervention. Hey, I might do it (if I ever get my @55 away from playing Counter-Strike) and people will love me! This could be done for a lot of drivers that have to be downloaded and compiled.
But, I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. We don't have to be windows, but we do have to make it useable. I know it takes a lot of work to make it look easy. But until then, it will be not be accepted on the desktop of Joe Schmoe.
Yawn! I see a stealthy pea shooter that you can STILL see on infrared and heat sensors, and it still gives a very small radar signature.
Now when the military has a protoculture driven aircraft like the VF1-Valkyrie that can recongure into Guardian or Battloid mode, then you will have my undivided attention.
I have to disagree, I don't like the looks of Gnome, it's just depressing. I'm not a fan of KDE either, but I'll use it over Gnome any day. I'm actually an Enlightenment fan, but I wish it would get a jolt of development to keep up with new techniques.
P.S. XP interface blows also, but there are a few functionalities I would like to see in any Linux Desktop, drag and drop functionality, application cohesiveness, and some others that I just don't know how to put into words.
So let me get this straight. We are fscked if we vote Democratic because of the entertainment business lobbiests, and we are fscked if we vote Republican because of their oil business lobbiests. We are getting fscked from both ends.
When are we, as a nation of the people, going to rise and take it back again. Was it Jefferson, or whomever, that said that a revolution was needed periodically to shake up the government and set it right? When is a strong third party, maybe libertarian or other, going to rise and speak for the real people and not for businesses. And NO, socialist doesn't count!

WHAT?! Doesn't Slashot just rehash, repeat, reposts, and relink to stories that someone else sweated over. I like Slashdot because of it's "one-stop shop".
Dumb a55 idiot, I'm in Houston and that is nowhere near me. 220 miles east of El Paso is less than 1/3 the distance from El Paso to Houston. You still have a LLOOONNNNGGG way to go until you reach the Gulf of Mexico. You could drive ALL day and still be in Texas.
P.S. Yeah, everything in Texas is big, so is my schlong.
I'm not Linux/KDE bashing, just speaking the truth. I love Linux because of what it is not, what it is, and what capabilities it has to become. I know I've been poisoned by MS Windows, but I think KDE reminds me of some Fisher Price interface. I think KDE is the best GUI for Linux yet, but I think it could be better. I know I could just shut my trap and go build my own WM, but I don't have the skills to build one from scratch. I do have an idea of what I would like for one to be, but I'll take KDE any day over GNOME.
Now, back to the topic. I like the functionality to drag-n-drop items from my file manager to any application, but I can't seem to do that with KDE. The interface looks kind of "thick" on the borders and widgets, also. I'm kinda partial to Enlightenment.
How does one go about to build a Windows Manager from scratch? Do I need to know C, C++, or one of the other library frameworks?
This is just another reason why I LOVE GOOGLE! First, it was the excellent search engine, then the icing on the cake was searching through newsgroups. I thought that was all I needed, then came searching through news articles. THIS IS GREAT!
Everytime I have a problem, it's Google's Newgroups search that have saved the day!
We all got on the AMD bangdwagon because then offered an alternative that was better, faster, and cheaper. We all rooted for them because we hated the RULER, the ENEMY, Intel. I've been a sworn supporter of AMD and every PC I've built I've used AMD. But this just might be what breaks me. Let's get Transmeta to crank up performance and let's switch. I can see it now, a new "SWITCH" program just like Apple's.
People are bringing up the comparison of the Neanderthals and Homosapiens. Doesn't anyone remember the television series Slider which came on FOX and then moved to the Sci-Fi Channel?
I think it was the Neanderthals (?) and Homosapiens were living on the same world in one dimension, and either one was the dominant and subjected species and they never got a long. Maybe Enterprise also ripped this plot too!!
What is they too could live together, but the series never showed that, each was trying to exterminate the other ala Nazi style.
Viva Bash! Viva Bush!
Vida la Viva Loca!

I LOVE MY BROADBAND ROADRUNNER CABLE MODEL!
At least someone here agress with me, Stargate SG1 is a GREAT show! It is like Robotech, it is VERY deep with a lot of history behind each character.
Sweet ass bitch got her ass served to her!

Why didn't they instead call it VOLTRON!
Voltron was first with 5 lions, and then with about 15 space vehicles.
"Form legs, and body!"... "ROWRRR!"
"Form arms, and I'll form the HEAD!"
CLANG! (as hands meet to form sword) ZZZRRRRR!
ROARRRRR!!!!!
As comic book man would say, "Worst release ever!"
REBOOT! REBOOT! REBOOT!

WOW! Is this a coincidence or a CONSPIRACY? This would make a PERFECT question on Jeopardy!
"George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Keanu Reeves"
Answer: "Who was the original Superman from the TV series, Superman of early 80s movie, and Superman of 2004 movie, which flopped."
If you really know Levar Burton, you know you have seen him on Reading Rainbow on PBS.
