back in high school i did something unheard of
everyone had TI-83's - i had to have an HP48G+; it was the best thing i could have done. once i finally figured out the RPN on it (yeah, it was the first time i'd ever used that style) it was more powerful, faster, friendlier, and had cooler games to play on it. (a testament to the Saturn processor?)
i didn't care if i couldn't play tetris with my friends on link cable, i didn't care if there was only one person in the class who had one besides me. while everyone else was trying to figure out how to send files with the wire discreetly, we were quickly Beaming lines of test over about 3 feet via the IR signal

now that i've seen this one, i want another one - sure the 48G+ has loads of life left in it, but this one has USB of all things i'd love to have on my 48G+

yeah, i'm a geek for sure

  18. non-commercial alternatives? on Universities Mull Official Role In Music Distribution · · Score: 5, Interesting

so what happens if you don't like the crap they wanna force-feed everyone?

what if your style is industrial, ambient, techno, folk, noise - whatever... stuff that isn't top-40 is most likely going to be ignored completely; and these students will still be forced to pick up the tab

There's a 'field house' here at the university; a nice recreation facility, but there was a HUGE uproar from students who didn't want to foot the 40$ per semester fee to use it whether they'd actually use it or not - i forsee similar outcries about any service which likely would suck for all but the lowest common denominator - pop music is all you'll see, and it's what we're all force-fed right from the start

I'm 20 now, and haven't been on ritalin for about 4 years... at first, i REALLY hated the fact that my parents were (more or less) forcing me to take them - all i knew about it when i was 8 was that it changed the way i thought, etc... bad enough as it was as i got older, say, through junior high, i was still on the drug, and went in search of ways to channel that energy - i ended up intimitely knowing the anarchist's cookbook - some trouble with the law over that older still, in high school, i started to realise it's potential and started to do better in school, and found it was actually doing what it was meant to do... stop the hyperactivity, and gave me focus about half way through my final year in high school, my parents finally took me off the drug (just before i'd be able to say no legally anyways) and i noticed that i really didn't need it nearly as much anymore - i'd actually grown into the focus i got accustomed to; thinking before i did things actually happened then i just live my life as any other geek does now... geek job, geek life, geek girlfriend
