Theres a few reasons for that and none of them are good. I buy a pc, we will say for gaming. In 6 months my pc will be a mid range gamer pc and will sell for $1000+ less then i paid for it, in 6 months a mac will still be...boring, fairly useless (for me), and still very expensive.

Not only that, i like to build my own pc, its far easier to replace(defective return) pieces of hardware from a retail store then it is to get a new piece of hardware from a prefab vendor. Its also fun.

Because sooner or later people will get sick of the same old "wheel" and want something new. The wheel was re-invented on psx and saturn, the birth of affordable mainstream 3d capable hardware. Games werent always made of polygons.

Ive been an avid gamer for as long as i can remember, which is why im qualified to comment here. I dont claim to know what the next leap of gaming will be, 1st it was mud, then 2d, then 3d, but i can say the true next generation of gaming wont be around for a long time because all anyone cares about is new faster hardware and pretty graphics. Nobody thinks outside the box anymore, nobody.

Thats not always a bad thing, i mean damn, there are a ton of games coming out this year that i must own, and same went for last year, but all of it is the same, nothing is really new.

Back in the day..like that day 3-5 years ago, i think it was a Tuesday, PC games were optimised again and again to make them run perfect as can be, these days most pc games run like ass on any system regardless of specs, why? Because of junk code...now we know where it might be coming from. Is this the reason alot of games that come out now just utterly suck beyond beleif? I mean wouldnt it make sense for a developers vision to be made by them and not have pieces sold off to the lowest bidder, how much extra time will a dev team have to spend fixing or tweaking the outsourced code once it comes back, and what happens when that code requires patching in a game thats already shipped? Does the publisher do the work? No, the original dev team does, and they dont even get paid for it!

Lets face facts, if more windows users took an hour and learned a little bit more about how their pc and the internet works, and how to protect themselves the world would be a better place. I know 5 windows users who have NEVER update their anti virus software or installed a single patch, i know 7 people who leave their pc on 24/7, have broadband yet dont use a firewall, yes i know some fault has to go to MS but if it werent for the idiots of the world who are to lazy to learn about the basics of security and virus's we wouldnt have these problems.
