This isn't communist China, you have a choice.
Why is it that every day China gets a step further than America in technology and freedom? They may not be gaining many freedoms, but at the rate we let the governemnt and corporations take ours we are going to be very close, very soon.
The chinese haven't gained any freedom at all, and their technological prowess has mainly resulted in two things: cheap exports (where cheap manpower is often more important than efficient production) and a massive increase in China's big brother capability.
Hey, I think the chinese are a great people, no mistake, but the chinese government is as bad as any communist government has ever been.
Exactly, my mysql database on my 450 MHz Pentium II computer has thousands, if not tens of thousands, of key words in its database, and easily manages to serve up query in less than a second. And what's a mid tower anyway? For all that means, you can have a mini-itx cluster going on in that tower, or you can have an old 286.;)
I've been waiting for a decent search engine app for the desktop - for both Linux & Windows. Grep is fine, but it's not always the best tool for the job. Alta vista had a decent app for the Windows desktop a few years back, but I don't know if it supports newer Windows OS's. (And not having RTFA, I don't know if my example even applies.)
I know you're being sarcastic, but consider the fact that while there aren't that many people using 64 bit Windows now, it will be adopted widely a few years down the road, and *totally* outnumber the user base of 64 bit Linux users. If the perception was different, people would be at work targetting present and future Linux distros right now.
I think he got close to the truth in the third quote, but does it really matter to anyone except to George Lucas himself? He's getting like Stephen King, who's obsessed with revising all his past stories so that they fit with his vision of "the dark tower" and "the beam" to which "everything is connected". These guys should sit down and talk.;)
This trailer - it wasn't too bad - but what kind of a movie is it going to be? Apart from using the Carnby name, I don't see the connection with the game and the movie.
Exactly. Comparing Karl Marx with Osama Bin Laden is like comparing Salman Rushdie with Ayatollah Khomeini. Karl Marx outlined a new social structure and an economic theory to go with it.
I see your point. I just upgraded to a Geforce FX5600XP 128MB ($100). It plays all games I throw at it acceptably (Doom 3 is smooth at 1024x768, all graphics on High quality) on an Athlon 2600+ with 1 gig ram. However, your SOL if you're set on getting an AGP card from Nvidia that doesn't require a molex connector - at least if you want decent performance. All FX cards & later require extra power (AGP versions - dunno about the PCI Express versions).
Sure there is. Dragon's Lair for the Amiga was spot on (and quite an achievement for its time as well). If you don't have an Amiga, get an emulator (Amiga Forever/WinUAE) -- a decent PC rig will give a smooth play experience.
Btw, Dragon's Lair for the C64 was a completely different game. It was actually more playable than the arcade (but no fancy graphics).
it doesn't detect my surround sound setup (sb live! with klipsch pro media 4.1's)
it runs at medium detail @ 640x480 and gets pretty choppy in places...
my only complaint so far is that it's so dark that even the flashlight doesn't even really let you see much (i'm trying not to turn my brightness up but it seems i may have to so i don't keep running into guard rails and such)...
overall though.. i think the intro was a bit long.. i wanna kill stuff.. and kill it i shall... after the 15-20 minute introduction:-/ great for the story.. bad for my trigger finger
Some improvement tips for you: For surround sound, go into control panel/sounds and set your speakers to surround. This will enable the game to see your surround speakers! Set anisotrophic settings to 1 (8 is default). This is set in Doom3.cfg (you must edit the cfg-file manually)
Try a higher resolution. Geforce cards perform better on higher resolutions, even if you have to sacrifice texture quality.
Btw, I thought the intro section was too short. It could have done with even more tension building.:)
The CD32 was and still is my absolute favourite 32 bit console. A shame it didn't last that long... The great thing about it is the ability to transfer old Amiga games to CD and play them with the joypad/big tv thing that we all love:).
CD32 had lots of cool games. Here's a short list of my faves:
Pinball Fantasies Super Stardust Zool Banshee D-Generation Premiere S uperfrog...
I'd like to add that a lot of C64 games retailed at 1.99 - 4.99, with "big name" games retailing at 14.99-16.99. Amiga games usually retailed at 24.99-29.99. Of course, usually none of them were cartridges.
The reason the old games simply ramped difficulty up to the point of impossibility was they had *nothing else to offer*.
*SMACK* - you hit the nail on the head. In recent years I've replayed a lot of the older games that were nigh impossible to beat, but this time on an emulator with a savestate function, and it often amazed me how little the games really had to offer beyond the really crazy hard initial levels. Games like Bruce Lee, H.E.R.O. (still one of my faves), Jumpman Jr., Paperboy etc.
Lack of memory was often the reason why they was made like this. Sure, it would have been great to have tons of different levels and enemies in a game like Bruce Lee, but there just wasn't enough memory to support all that. Making games harder was the only way to prolong the experience, short of multiloading disks/tapes, which really were a pain in the a**.
Why do the companies feel the need to change controllers all the time? You get used to a playing with a freaking crazy-weird X-Box controller, use it for a couple of years, and then WHAM!, now there's a new crazy-weird X-Box 2 controller.
My guess is that it's a marketing thing. You don't want to sell a new system with an old controller because you don't want the buyer to think he's getting less than he paid for.
Anyway, I really like the original X-Box controller (not the slimmed down one). It's a great fit for my hands, unlike that supertiny Gamecube pad and the poor PS2 pad (sorry, don't like that one). Too bad the Xbox 2 pad will probably be a lot smaller than the original...
Spot on! I especially liked how the author of the article put it:
- Buying games out of the hands of Xbox and Cube owners seems remarkably childish, like breaking a sibling's new toy because nobody bought you one. In fact, it's more like breaking a sibling's new toy even though your parents bought you one anyway.
Tabbrowser Extensions doesn't work with the new release. If you install it, you will get the following message when you try to run the browser:
"Error launching browser window: no XBL binding for browser"
And the browser will quit.
So, until the guys behind the extension fix the problem, the extension won't be available. Too bad really -- personally, it's one of my favourite extensions to the browser.
A friend of mine gave me a Halo CD with a CD key good enough to play locally but not online. I said "thanks" and got down to playing. I finished the game in about 5 days of long sessions, and here's my review:
Halo on the Mac sucks slimy donkey balls. ...
Moral of the story: if it hadn't sucked, I would have bought two copies.
Yet you did play it for several hours over the course of five days. Come on.
For the computer - but you can back up the licenses and transfer them to another computer. It's a bit of a hassle compared to non-DRM'd files, but it works well enough.
According to the article, the next Xbox will play current Xbox games. It's just that right now it's one of those obsctacles MS has to clear before finishing up the Xbox 2 design.
Nvidia is playing for the press right now. They're peeved at MS for the original Xbox deal, and now that they've been shafted for Xbox 2, they're going to try to make it as difficult as possible for MS to build backward compatability into Xbox 2. It'll happen, Nvidia will make a buck on it, and they'll tone down the criticism. Standard fare.
Define Norwegian? I understood there are 2 Norwegian languages. And one of them doesn't have a very strcitly defined spelling, or so I heard.
Yes, there are two languages, bokmaal (norwegian) and nynorsk (new norse). The languages are very similar and both has strict grammar rules and a defined spelling. However, as nynorsk is based on rural dialects many get the impression that the language that is less strictly than bokmaal. Word's spell checker supports both as far as I know, although you may need a special version of the software.
This of course causes some problems using the Word spell checker (which in norwegian is one word;-P) on norwegian texts.
It does? The Dutch version of Word has no problems with compound words like 'arbeidsvoorwaardenbeleidsmedewerker' (Policy maker for working conditions & benefits). Of course, it gets some of the rules for making compound words wrong, but it is designed to deal with them.
The current spell checker (Word XP/2003) is quite good and is quite able to deal with the norwegian grammar. The earliest versions of the spell checker (Word 95) was a big mess, but who's still using that one (except to prove a point)?

Agreed. It works even better if you bind the switch to the middle mouse button/wheel button.

Linux is the clear "winner".
(Yeah, I'm hellbent for a torrent of troll mods now, heh).

F**K Sony.
Be realistic. While the US backing out of the ISS project would have a catastrophic impact on Russia's space program, it wouldn't bankrupt Russia.
Excellent! That's really commendable. Thanks for the heads up! :)
