    I got tired of being told what to think by the major news outlets with all their spin and faxes read from major party machinery. I get all my news from the web. It's more timely and you don't have to endure the editor's bias in the story. Find a good real-time site and throw off the chains.

    This is bad news for Mandrake. Ad revenues are spotty at best according to people that I know who rely on them for their websites. What next? Back doors so advertizers can see where we surf?

    It's a great dist but I'd hate to see it become the Juno/Netzero of dists.

    If you drop a unix programmer in an MS shop, he'll get along pretty good. Dragging and dropping is as simple as poking a stick in an termite mound to get fed. You dump an MS programmer in a unix shop and he'll look like a puppy in a pet store window. I've looked through that window.

    That means another $400 billion to be spent on tax cuts for the super rich when the budget deficit is heading for $700 billion.

    You are a walking cliche factory. I got $800 of my own money back from the government in the form of a tax cut so I guess I am super-rich. If we have a deficit, maybe we should cut government spending. Funny, the deficit-worrying Democrats will never support that. They only get upset when citizens get to keep more of their own money.

    Considering that I paid $100 for my last MB/CPU upgrade, I'd say were are in better shape. My MB/CPU combo for my 266 many years ago was about $500.

    When I can double speed for $50, I upgrade.

    I used to get phone calls when I would send out emails with instructions on them. I would say (for example) "Click the OK button". People would call (or ask me to come by) and ask "Should I click on the OK button?". I used to think they were stupid but then I realized it was a social thing. By dealing with them directly, I was showing they had worth. That was important to some people. Especially people high up the food chain. They didn't want to think they were banging buttons just like the steerage down in the ballast hull. They paid people to do that

    Considering that you will be able to buy a 333 motherboard for $50 in a month, I don't see the point.

    If I want more speed, I'll just buy an 2000 thoroughbred for my $50 Biostar and overclock it to 2500.

    Actually, the Tandy Model 3 keyboard was the best that I can remember. It had grained keys and clicked sharply. Too bad it was attached to the "tube" (us old guys say "tube" for CRT).

    I actually have a old metal Dell Keyboard at home. Now that thing is a hoss. It takes up half the desk. You could fit a motherboard in it.

    AHEM....my first PC had 8 bits of RAM. We used to set the bits and then push them into sandstone to form an image and then wait for it to harden. We did that for every instruction. That was our first program. Luckily the code was self-documenting.

    CRT? Forget it. We had a blind guy read the sandstone and tell us the output.

    But you can't tell young people that today. They're spoiled.

    The technically-savvy folks are the ones trashing their machines. With Linux, that ability is greatly diminished because a vast majority of the Adware/Cuteware won't run on Linux. With Linux, you can actually lock down the desktop without the administrator being bombarded with requests to "add this to my secretary's PC so she will get off my back".

    I refuse to own a cell phone because Jesus hates them. You didn't see our Lord and Savior walking around Galilee with a phone to His ear promising his mother that He would eat right. He didn't take pictures of Golgatha with phone to show to His brothers and sisters. And you don't see pictures of Him hanging on the Tree of Sorrow with a freaking earbud.

    And He didn't drive with one because it's a SIN. Everytime I see some soccer mom cruising around in her SUV chatting to her friends and ignoring the traffic in front of her, I want to yell "DON'T YOU KNOW YOU ARE RISKING ETERNAL DAMNATION".
