Why don't the DOJ just skip this whole step and just ask the NSA to share their Echelon data instead? Seems like a duplication of effort otherwise

  5. Douglas on Douglas Adams Remembered By Those Who Knew Him · · Score: 0, Interesting
I was lucky enough to meet Douglas several times at book signings over here in England and went to a public talk he gave in London about conservationism when "last chance to see" came out.

    Always very courteous and pleasant.

Last time I saw him was in Camden High St, London about 6 years ago buying a sandwich in a shop.

  7. Re:uniqueness on The Philanthropic Arm of Google · · Score: -1
    Dictionary.com agrees with me.

Usage Note: For many grammarians, unique is the paradigmatic absolute term, a shibboleth that distinguishes between those who understand that such a term cannot be modified by an adverb of degree or a comparative adverb and those who do not. These grammarians would say that a thing is either unique or not unique and that it is therefore incorrect to say that something is very unique or more unique than something else. Most of the Usage Panel supports this traditional view.

  8. uniqueness on The Philanthropic Arm of Google · · Score: -1

There is no such word as 'uniqueness'. Something is either unique or it isn't. It is an absolute.

The additional 1% is friendly fire

Tv detector vans are a scare-advertising thing.

They dont have any technology to detect whether you have a tv or not.

All they have is a list of all address in the uk and a list of all people with a tv license. If you dont have a license they assume you have a tv and the amusing requests for money start.

  15. UK TV Licenses on United Kingdom Leads the World in TV Downloads · · Score: 1, Funny
Speaking as a UK citizen I quite enjoy the UK TV license system and their amusing requests for money.

    The letters are funny too.

    "Dear Sir.

We are really quite angry that you haven't bought a tv license.

While we have no proof that you actually have a tv we assume you've got one because, well, most people have got one.

Failure to buy a license will result in us sending you another letter telling you how angry we are."
