  2. Re:Secret of Mana on Overclocking the Super Nintendo · · Score: 1

Most SNES games use the vertical retrace for timing, so in many cases overclocking does remove the slowdown.

You're doing it wrong. It's 100% possible to get bit identical copies of audio CDs. Use correctly configured good CD ripping software such as Exact Audio Copy and a high quality drive, and there is no generational loss. I've tested this myself, and the CDRs rip to bit identical wavs to the original CDs. (The error correction isn't guaranteed bit identical, but it gets regenerated each generation, so it doesn't matter).

  12. Lies about Azureus on Sysadmin Toolbox Top Ten · · Score: 2, Informative
Unlike Azureus, it has the ability to run all of the torrents on a single port, removing the need to allow entire port ranges through a firewall in order to use the program.
Since version 2.0.6.0, Azureus also works with multiple torrents on a single port.
Transmission is perfect for users who occasionally need to download a torrent. While Azureus uses Java to draw its interface, Transmission uses GTK+, helping it fit in perfectly with a GNOME desktop.
Azureus can also use GTK+ for its interface.
  13. Re:A lot less than meets the eye on Region-free PS3 · · Score: 1

For low resolution 2D games, using the vertical refresh as a timer is the only way to get perfectly smooth animation. This is relevant because of emulation of old games.

Maybe it would be possible to desolder the flash chip and replace it with a higher capacity one. Then it could contain both the official firmware for confirmation purposes and the hacked one for booting for DVDRs.

  17. Re:Quick Google Scholar Search on Hot Pepper Kills Prostate Cancer · · Score: 1

The hot sensation of black pepper is not caused by safrole (which is a known carcinogen), but by piperine. Safrole is only found in pepper in very small traces. However, sassafras leaves are used in Creole cooking, which are much higher in safrole. I don't have access to the full text, but this paper looks very dubious.

Any latency is an issue if you're competing with other players. Assuming you have equal reaction time and skill, whoever has the lowest latency wins. It's the same reason why you have people buying top of the range PCs and then playing FPSs at minimum detail.
