  1. Re:The CS Community on Counter-Strike Opens Weapons Market · · Score: 1
    1. It could "unbalance" clan matchs. If Clan X plays Clan Y one week when the M4 is expensive then they'll have a very different game than when they play Clan Z when the M4 is cheaper. While each game is fair I think any comparison of games (we beat Clan Z, how come we lost to Clan Y?) will be skewed.
I agree, but there are also two sides to the story. This could make it more like 'real life' where weapon prices and availabilty affect battles. I don't know which side of the fence I'm on, but I think I'm going to like it. It adds diversity. Gameplay changes over time. Could be interesting.
    2. Weapons that are available to both sides will always have more spent on them than weapons unique to one team. For example, the M4 and the CK are only available to the one side, while the AWP and the P90 are available to both sides. That presumably will mean the AWP and P90 have more spent on them in any one week, pushing them into the top 50% half where prices increase. I hope Valve have thought about that, I'd hate all the shared weapons to increase while the unique weapons fall. Not just coz I'm a P90 spray'n'pray player of course.. :)
Good point. I think this should be simple to take care of. The M4 and AK/CK aer basically the same gun, correct? Well, instead of comparing the purchases of (P90:AWP:M4:AK), compare them as (P90:AWP:M4+AK). Theoretically, if all weapons were purchased in same amounts by everyone, this would make it 1:1:1. (I think my wording could be better, but you understand.)

And as a final note, P90 FOR LIFE! =D I use it for sniping in bursts too. Really pisses people off to get sniped by a P90, of all guns.

If you aren't an audiophile or a gamer, there is very little reason to need anything past a Live! card. I have been the owner of two Sound Blasters, an Audigy, and more recently, an X-Fi. I love my X-Fi. However, I play tons of games and listen to a lot of music. Now, I have been very satisfied with the XP drivers. They work great, have great adjustment options, etc. I recently tried out Vista RC1 and was very disappointed. For one, the drivers had no EAX support. EAX does wonders in games, and now I didn't have that. Strike one. Next, the interface had been jacked up. It is no longer easy to use or friendly, but it does have this nice feature of not saving my settings. Strike two. Finally, CMSS-3D wasn't functional. This basically up-mixes all sound to 5.1 so I actually feel 'surrounded' by my music. I listen to music whenever I'm not gaming, so that about killed it for me. So far, I have had pretty good luck with Creative's drivers, but this is an exception. I will give a little credit, as the OS isn't completely supported by much of anyone yet. All that aside, I think they need to re-work their driver system. There are so many different varieties of the Live! card it can be impossible to find your drivers. I think they would do better to have a base 'control panel' and allow you to download a 'unified driver' package like nVIDIA does. This way, there would be no confusion and this single 'Live! Unified Driver' package would have everything you need, no matter which card you have.

Since one of my friends plays Halo and explained it to me one day, I'll try to explain this. I believe modding is done by using a PC as a proxy between the Xbox and the internet. The PC detects values and changes them at your whim, based on what you want. It works almost like a gameshark for Xbox live. IIRC, the trick is that you have to host the game.

I think it's completely feasible. Think about it. If this can put out 78CFM@2000RPM, why is it so hard to imagine? For our purposes, let's say we can fit 6 fans (go with me) on the back of this case. that is 468CFM, with the fans on silent. Imagine if you sped them up. Take the same concept, make it use ions to move the air instead, and call it a day. These ionic devices have been shown to move air, however minimal. I think it can be done, unless someone else has something to show me otherwise.

Spot on. I've taken to recommending the mid-range cards over anything. I have had a 6600GT for a little over a year and I couldnt be anything but satisfied. It even OCs well. I wasn't able to drop 500 bucks on a GPU, so I went with the 150 dollar solution: Mid-Range. I think this is where most of the market is (for anything but OEMs anyway) because people don't want to spend an assload on a video card, but they want bang for the buck. It's my belief that the market is concentrated around the mid-range, and it's going to stay that way.

No, really. I found it to be an altogether enjoyable experience. It was much more fun to work with others (namely Alyx) throughout the duration of the game. Speaking of, I clocked in at just under 4 Hours, including a 30 minute dinner break. The length was kinda disappointing, but such is life. as a side note, I am an avid FPSer, and it will likely take most people much more time, such as the 6 hours the parent post mentioned. I play to play through again tomorrow with the commentary on, seeing as how much good I've heard spoken of it.

Where are you getting this from? I have worked as an electrician and have messed around with a lot of DC electronics (high power motors, low power motors, computers, etc.). The normal wiring for a house (at least here in the US) has wires running through it in sleeves. within these sleeves are at least 3 wires, per sleeve. There are even more if a switchleg is needed, such as for multiple lightswitches to a single light. IIRC, DC power just has a 'hot' wire and a ground. AC=3 or more, DC=2.

  21. Re:Extensions on Opera Seeks Developer Input For Opera 10 · · Score: 1

I understand where you are coming from, but I think your view is too far on the extreme side. Extensions are not always bad. Sure, they can be a developer's nightmare sometimes, but I think it's worth it.

Case in point: I use Firefox. I love some of the extensions. Two examples of these are the GMail notifier and ForecastFox. The Gmail notifier checks my email FOR ME, so I don't have to waste my time looking at it if I have nothing new. The developers of Opera may not be willing to implement this feature, as not everyone uses GMail. However, I don't know what I would do without it. It is definitely one of my main reasons for using Firefox. Secondly, ForecastFox checks the weather for me. It will tell me about severe weather alerts without me having to watch the news for 10 minutes to actually get to the weather. Also, a final extension that _could_ cause issues, but saves me great trouble: IE Tab. It allows me to view pages inside the Firefox browser using IE's engine. All of these extensions help ME, which is why I use them.

For some reason, I can't see all of these useful extensions being added to Opera 10. It just won't happen. This leaves many of us with other browsers such as Firefox for our browsing needs as they can be expanded out past the 'stock' browser configuration. Until Opera has extension capabilities, I won't even think about switching.
