Re:For those that didn't already know
man Wikipedia is cool
:)
anyway, despite what that tech is used for, it is damn cool tech.
I'd like to think that I could trust the people who it has been designed for, in particular the chief architect and user of the system, the US Govt. However, these past couple of years, with all the shit that's been going on, I'm starting to wonder. I mean, they seem to know how to use it to get an advantage for their companies, but they can't use it to stop one of the largest attacks on US soil in the country's history.
Hmmm.

Prime example
Most Blogs are uber-forgettable ego stroking crap, but the truth in this statement - "some guy in his underwear with too much free time can take down a Washington politician" - can been seen in tons of places. A prime example of the influence a joe-nobody can weild is Harry Knowles. Check him out Here. Maybe not technically a blog, but the concept is the same, and this guy has ended up on the list of the 100 most influential people in Hollywood.

Well it must be the greatest movie of all time, why else would I have waited in line for days to see it?!!! "Citizen Kane"? Never heard of him.

If you like movies about re-animated corpses, you may also like the new version of Dawn of the Dead. Here is a review that compares the two films.

Re:Hey Lucas! This may be an unconventional opinion on the matter, but i hope he doesn't release the completely original version.
Aint it cool news has a spotty record, but FWIW they have some titilating speculation about the discs. Lucas' as to the release date has been a lack of time on his part to do them right; a desire to make discs that take advantage of everything th medium has to offer. Supposedly that may be on the wayIdeally there would be a scriptable disk that can play whichever version you want.
I don't want greedo firing first. I would NOT mind lucas fixing the Emperor in Empire , who looks stupid, no matter how much nostalgia you have. I sort of liked the mildly extended shots in the SE (the extra stormtroopers han runs into. Supposedly ILMers convinced him not to add flips and jumps to the original obiwan/vader lightsabre duel in episode IV.

Another Lucas Whine...
For those of you who are wondering why Indiana Jones 4 is being delayed, check this link out:
http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=17037
Basically the script is done and Spielberg is ready, but Lucas wants to dip his hand in the script and mess around. Just like the Special Editions, can't leave anything alone, always gotte keep tinkering with it... -

To make it even funnier.....
They close down their 2D studios, and it looks like they won't be renewing their deal with Pixar. They're closing the studios down because "it isn't profitable", as I recall.
And what's Pixar doing? Possibly opening a 2D animation studio.
I think it's the Disney studios that aren't profitable anymore, since most of the good animated movies out of Disney in the past 5 years or so were from Pixar... -
Still Not convinced.
Well, not 100% anyway.
I have not idea how credible "ain't it cool news" is, but this article mentions a rumor of more filming next year for the extend edition of ROTK.
I'll continue to hope until I see review from a reliable source that its not included in the EE.
BTW, was anyone slightly bugged that the "homage" to the scouring in FOTR showd samwise as a prisoner? In the book, the hobbits returned to the shire to mop up the floor with the bad guys. None of the 4 were taken prisoner. -
no thanks
i stopped watching battlestar after episode #1. the characters were hokey, especially the asian chick who looked like she moonlighted as a power ranger. starbuck was too much of a bitch, apollo was too much of a stick. the female cylon was too much of a slut. there was just too much in-your-face sexual tension in the beginning, it didn't set quite the right tone for me (i guess i wasn't feeling all that horny when i was watching it). though the physics was kind of realistic, the atmosphere was almost non-existent -- this series could've used a ridley scott.
believe me i tried to get excited about the new series, but i just couldn't. there was no redeeming value watching it, especially with the long commercial breaks (what, you pay premium cable to watch commercials!?). basically, i'm in total agreement with this reviewer
(note that i'm not trashing the new series because i cherish the original series with blind sentiment, for i was a little boy when it aired and can't recall too much about it except for the cool special effects.) -
Bad omens
A preview on aintitcool.com is not optimistic.
Looks sex-addled, low-action, and pretty scanty on the mythology. "Cylon Fembots" is all we need to know.
The mythology was pretty much all that made it distinctive, such as it was, in the original case. -

Re:Is it just me...
You insightful post is actually wrong. Jackson has said he's not been under any pressure from the studio. See here for more info.
-
Some more info straight from Peter Jackson...
The decision was made by PJ himself. And since we didn't explicitly see Saruman's demise in TTT, this won't affect the storyline for the average movie-goer. More here.

when I see movies
I hardly ever pay to see movies any more; since our local art houses have gotten into the "business" (think internet bubble) of pre-release screenings, I get several invitations a month to go to free shows. Not to mention that my local film festival gets me other invites, simply for being a member.
I actually do read reviews, mostly online, when I can get them, simply because there's no local word of mouth nor advertising for these things, before I get the invites. Otherwise I just have to rely on what the email or card says about the plot of a movie. Basically in the last month I've turned down "Sylvia" because of horrendous reviews and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" because I don't do horror stories. This week I have 3 free movies to go see, including "Bad Santa," which I'll see ONLY because it got good reviews, "Shattered Glass," which sounds interesting but which I may pass up for an astronomy club meeting (don't laugh), and "Mona Lisa Smile," which sounds sappy, but which I'll probably watch anyway.
If I do pay to see movies, it's usually because of trailers I've seen in the theater that pique my interest, like "Veronica Guerin," which I'll pay for if I don't get a pass. -
Re:how long will be ROTK ?
Apparently 3 and a half hours, give or take a minute.

Re:Awesome
Don't worry, Brother Bear will soon be here to crush you once again.

Re:I predict 3% on the Tomatometer!Actually initial reviews are surprisingly good. I don't trust reviews by "fanboys" myself. (Hell, far too many said that T3, Daredevil, and Blade II were good). Still I think I'm more excited for this than I am for any movie since Matrix II.
Actually I'm more excited for the new Pirates of the Carribean movie. That looks like it may live up to what all the other movies this year have been trying to do and failing miserably. (Actually I liked Matrix: Reloaded - but it still wasn't nearly as good as I'd hoped for)

An Extra I'd Pay For
This Four DVD set will include:
Lots of nice stuff, but what I want to see is the shot by shot remake of Raiders created over six years by a group of kids.
"Spielberg was astonished at the ingenuity and imagination with which these kids recaptured the magic of his, arguably, greatest film."
If so, why not let the rest of us see it?

Miller's Crossing
I know it may be a stretch to call any Coen Brothers' movie 'underappreciated' but I think that Miller's Crossing doesn't get the appreciation it deserves both among Coen films and among films in general.
It is the most compelling, well-crafted movie I know.
Harry Knowles wrote an appropriately appreciative review. -
Just a rumor
According to this, Tobey is fine and the sequel is a go. This was just a rumor going around. Why is Slashdot posting movie rumors? If we're gonna do that, at least keep up with the current Superman fiasco at Warner Bros....

Corrections (Reuters, Hollywood Reporter, AICN)
First off, it's $17M.
;-) And there's updated info and clarification at Yahoo/Reuters, AICN, and Yahoo/Hollywood Reporter. Don't panic or freak out. This looks like a rumor that got out of control, and is now being actively denied by the powers-that-be. -
AICN Script ReviewAin't It Cool News had a fairly favorable script review a few months ago.
I remember "Galactica" from my youth, but I just remember the spaceships zooming around. I was like 7 or so, so I don't remember much. I was excited when they were going to bring it back...but then, we don't speak of "Galactica 1980." (My God! It's been over 20 years)
When I went back in the last few years and caught it on SciFi, I was surprised how detailed the series was--the polictical infighting, the "civilian control of the military" overtones, etc.
The new script sounds like it picks up on its legacy, and expands on it immencely.
Remember: twenty-five years ago, SciFi was not nearly as generally accepted as it is today. There is such diversity out there now, and the audiences are much more mature. It could be said that it is much more accepted. So, more sophisticated plotlines can be accepted. -
Clones are dupesTatologically, this story is a dupe.

NeoCode writes "There were rumours and speculations first. Now it looks like its a done deal. Harry Knowles, of AintItCool.com has reports on an animated version of Star Wars set after AOTC but before episode 3. This series is produced by Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack). The cartoons will be a series of short films. Could this infuse Star Wars with a new life or is this just another merchandising plot? Nevertheless, this could be quite interesting." Yeah look what good Ewoks & Droids did for the SW universe ;) -

Re:News from AIC? Right...
I was not refering to the Cowboy Bebop movie. I was talking about this:
"Big O2 as commissioned by Cartoon Network, enabling it to be made despite a lack of demand for the series in Japan. Likewise, although the series creators expressed their desire last year to not make any new Cowboy Bebop animation, the Cartoon Network is apparently pressuring Sunrise Animation to create new Cowboy Bebop episodes specifically for American release."
Sorry I couldn't find the link when I posted before. -
Re:I hope it is better that the Totoro release
IIRC, part of Disney's deal with Miyazaki is that they won't alter a single frame of the films for distribution. Pan-and-scanning is obviously changing the film-- so at the very least I'm sure Disney has to offer both options.
I read this around the time Princess Mononoke came out, but I'm sure the same applies. It's why Disney (through Miramax) was willing to release a 2:20 animated film, instead of their usual 1:25-- it was that or nothing. (And that's why nothing could be done about Mononoke's glacial pacing, but that's opinion, I suppose.)
As for the language tracks, there was some hubbub when it came to the Mononoke DVD-- Disney was originally going to release it with only the English language dub, but there was considerable fan outcry (spearheaded by the folks at AICN, I believe), and so the disc was delayed so they could get language clearances and have both versions.
Personally, I enjoyed Spirited Away much, much more than Mononoke, and would look forward to a comparably well-done release, with widescreen, both language options, etc. Hopefully Disney's learned their lesson-- that Miyazaki's fan base can be downright ornery in their devotion, and will demand quality. -
T3 soundtrackAccording to Ain't It Cool, the original Terminator music that's in the trailer will NOT be used in the actual movie..
I hate that they'll use Brad Fidel's incredible TERMINATOR theme in the trailers to sell it, but Marco Beltrami has recently said he won't use the theme in the film. That's not fair, damn it.

Re:As most of you know...
Joke? Troll? Serious? Hard to tell sometimes.
Just to set the record straight, this was totally proven false a hundred times over, most notably by Ain't it Cool News (I would provide a direct link to the article, but their site is refusing connections right now). This was a result of some media idiot claiming it was on Kazaa or some such thing only because he or one of his aides saw it on a listing (i.e. didn't check to see if it was actually the movie). Besides, as others have said, watching a movie on a shitty monitor is a waste of time.
On the bright side, searching for 'two towers' on p2p brings up some substantially interesting pr0n. -
Much more interesting stuff on AICNI'm shocked this is the latest AICN story in a while!
Here's some other tidbits from the site:
- a review of the original pilot for Firefly that won't air on Fox until December (apparently it didn't have enough action for Fox).
- Hoshi's almost-bare-breasted scene in Enterprise
- Neil Gaiman writing for Robert Zemeckis
