Why the hell are these people running around blue or naked unless they realize that they can be seen? We need to wake the fuck up these people who are friends and family of these blue people, because they are the problem in this situation, ultimately; I'm sick of seeing different people catch harsh reactions from family members for being as they are. Here in Canada some people appear to be multicultural, for example, and although that does not really apply to different forms of expression beyond culture/"race",(such as painting ones self blue and running around naked), at the very least the two ideas can reinforce each other. In order for acceptance of such things as naked blue people to be widespread, more people have to be in the public's eye being both naked, and blue. Naked blue people should be commonplace, or at least relatively commonplace, and until people conceive of naked blue people in this fashion there will be trouble, and a sort of easy-way-out towards censorship in this manner.

I am not disputing the fact that burning man has the right to censor; you've made it clear by their video recordings policy that they do have this right; I'm saying that they censor, and as a side note that censorship is wrong. whether censorship be right or wrong, however, they are engaging in it, on a big enough scale to matter.

There is never an excuse to forbid someone to publish video, especially in a major event with many people involved, with video footage where everyone involved is obviously consenting

You'd be able to "Fast-forward and rewind", shop over your TV, play video games, etc. Everything they thought up was another way to fork over money.

That's why these phone sandboxes are never going to catch on. In a couple years, most people are going to be able to find free, wireless internet everywhere in most cities. It won't be as ubiquitous as the Cellphone system is now (at least I don't think so. I hope I'm wrong on this point) but for the vast majority of people, it'll be there the vast majority of the time.

People aren't interested in what big corporations and marketers want to feed them. Give them an open platform, and someone will come up with the 'next big thing.'. Big companies would never have thought up ebay, or hotornot, or autopr0n.com (okay, maybe that one isn't so big :P) or Slashdot, or whatever.

Actually, my site only pumps out a measly 255 megabytes per day. At least that's what it's been doing recently. Shouldn't be too long before it's up to a terabyte or three. :P

Honestly. Over half of the hits to autopr0n (NSFW) are from people using mozilla these days, only about 30% or so use IE, and that's with over half the visitors using windows. It seems like IE is on the way out, now that other browsers are "just as good" (Or at least have the one feature people really want, popup blocking). It's really surprising to see, and maybe I don't have a very good sample, but I really don't think people can simply "code for IE" the way they used to.

Sorry, but when I see pictures of these Sharp PDAs, they just don't excite me.

I started playing freeciv last week and i've allready put in ~45 hours into it.

i can't speak for everyone who uses linux here, but perhaps if we stay doing things that have at least some conceivable merit rather than looking at porn and playing through simulations and games...that better things (ie, a better overall os to play games and look at porn on!) will come of it.

don't get me wrong. i think games (and porn) are great...but you can lose a lot of spare energy, and right now the last thing we need, as a community of users, and as people in general, is more [bread and] circus. we need in its' place, stronger communications forums, and more activity. go out, right now, to your local irc channel and say hi/io. spend 5 minutes or so talking at minnimum. breathe some life into your corrospondants.

On windows, if you don't use IIS, you are likely to get screwed over at any point.

Actually, I use Apache on win2k with JSP for my lovely porn site and I've had no problems, (other then weird instability with tomcat 1.4). Sure, I don't have a gui front-end or anything like with IIS, but I wouldn't really have that with Apache on Linux either. Apache runs as an application in it's own little world with tomcat and leaves doesn't worry about the OS or anything else. Hell the config would work right off the bat on win98 even. And I could probably move the whole damn thing over to Linux of Solaris or whatever in a few hours.

And this is how it should be. I don't want an 'enterprise operating environment' I want an OS that deals with the hardware and lets me run whatever program I damn well please.

Three things, in combination, really bother me about this. The first one if that the spesifics of the blocking are kept secret for stupid reasons ("disseminating pornography", indeed. I'll disseminate pornography!). The second reason is that the secret blocked sites are being chosen by the state government, which I wouldn't trust at all, especially if you think of all the underhanded things people have done to get elected. Finally, I'm just against censoring the internet for anybody other than yourself.
