Re:LCD's suck?
Yeah, I'm wondering where she got that, too. The LCD on my 12" iBook is frickin' gorgeous - bright, high contrast, and I've never seen these lines she's talking about. I admire her thoroughness but having read a few of her other reviews I get the impression that she likes to complain; maybe she's been reading too much Filthy Critic.
-
Slashdot readership is lame...You guys are exactly what Larry Wall said you were... a bunch of chearleaders.
Lame ones at that too. With two cent tricks that aren't worth jack squat. All you do is complain. Without even reading the posted article... or even the summary. The summary for christ' sake! It says 'ANY'.
But nooooo... you guys wanna spurt out your pseudo intelligence by posting the obvious, yet stupid comment that 'it doesn't cost them anything'!
Because, in fact, that same argument has been used for the past 5 years now, and you think you're going to get modded up 'insightful' for making a highly thought out remark about the world.
Guess again you losers. I feel like filthy critic complaining about the 'grass fuckers' in Hollywood... everything you say about MS is straight out of a mold.
Push button, inject polyurethane into die-cast mold... and presto: an insightful karma whoring MS-bashing comment.

Re:T3 Looks ShitEI'm already looking forward to the filthy critic review...
Seriously though, they could've made something cool out of part 3, something creative with the changing of fate maybe. Something deep. But no, go to imdb and look at the tagline:
Eight Years Ago. The Machines Who Rule The Future Sent An Unstoppable Terminator To Assassinate The Young John Connor. They Failed. In 2003. The Machines Will Try Again.
Give me a BREAK! More spooge from collective asses of hollywood's finest. -
Filthy
I can't wait for it to come out just so I can read the filthy critic's review. If it's even slightly weak he'll cain the crap out of it. I love reading what that guy has to say.

RMS and the Filthy Critic: who can tell them apart, but by delivery of their message? Thanks for the info, diego001!

Filthy CriticRead the Filthy Critic this week.
It's the diary of his nephew Jimmy (president of his high school's "Dungeons and Dragons" club) who is camping out in line with the rest of the dweebs with no life to be the first to see the Two Towers.

That review sucked.

Hey whats wrong with Glitter
Mariah's fans everywhere are insulted. After all, it had some great reviews. -
Re:Great.
Tee hee. Speaking of geocities, did you read the filthy critic last week?
-
Better review
Personally, I like the review here better. This slashdot review sounded a bit like Katz.
-
Re:READ THIS -Very Off Topic-
I would argue that this movie doesn't belong on slashdot either. The whole idea of pre-cognition is fundamentally religious. Sure you could validate it scientifically to some extent but only to the extent that you can validate the statement "God answers prayer." I'm sure they threw in a couple of gadgets to make it seem slightly techie, but that's all window dressing on a political and religious film.
Anyway, Filthy only gave it two fingers so it can't be worth much discussion. -
Filthy
The Filthy Critic's take:
"Kirsten Dunst is a very good actress, and each of her tits under a wet shirt is worth a quarter the price of admission. I mean, this is the kind of stuff that makes a man sitting alone in a theater instinctively squeeze the Hamm's he smuggled in."
-
Filthy Critic Agrees with Katz
The Filthy Cirtic gave this movie a pretty good review as well and agreed for the most part with Katz.
In other news hell just froze over, Microsoft has released the source code to every thing and the MPAA and RIAA are no longer jerks trying to kill all technological advancements in the name of copyright protection. -
Filthy Critic already reviewed it anyway.
This guy sounds like a less-cynical version of the Filthy Critic.
Filthy has a much better (and filthier) review here: http://www.bigempire.com/filthy/u571.html. -

The dwindling value of movie reviewersRoger Ebert has been near worthless since Siskel passed away... I swear, his reviews are so random anymore that his attitude must stem from whether he had a tough grunt on the can that morning...
Even Leonard Maltin has lost me; I used to buy his movie guides every few years, but now I don't bother. Guess I never forgave him for giving Blade Runner one and a half stars.
Anymore, I just go to rottentomatoes, or the Slashdot-linked Filthy Critic, and check out the movie from there.

Re:Not exactly ontopic, but...
Here is a more insightful review of the Matrix I just found a link to further down in the discussion.
-
Re:SaturationYeah, apparently it wasn't just huge hit with geeks, but also just about every American action director.
Personally I'm sick of Matrix rip-off movies. Even the parodies are overdone. The movie itself just wasn't good enough to take over every single freakin' directors' mind since 1999. Here is a great review of the movie.
Anyway, enjoy your Matrix, but don't let your stoned friends try to engage you in sophomoric philosophical discussions about the nature of reality.

Looks alot like Filthy?
Are Katz' reviews getting to look more like the Filthy Critic's every time one is posted, or is it just me that thinks so?
From Filthy:
"Jared Leto is a spoiled (and annoying), hotheaded rich kid trying to steal more than his share of his inheritance. Forrest Whitaker is--once again--the sensitive bad guy with a heart of gold. And hillbilly crooner Dwight Yoakam is the cold-as-ice killer who'll do anything for the money."
Seems like Filthy and Katz said nearly the same thing, only Filthy said it about a week ago, and in a far more entertaining fashion. If you don't mind reading through a bit of a story, and many obscenities, read Filthy's reviews insted.
Sorry for the semi-troll, but in this post-9/11-columbine-tech-bubble-collapse-armaggedo n-osama-global-warming-crappy-movie-review world, what is one to do? -
another review
As allways - check the filthy critic for a second opinion.

I think the only alternate movie soundtrack I'd care to listen is would be Filthy's take on it. -
The Filthy Critic
This is soooo offtopic, but that seems to be the way this story is going. If you enjoy this guys letters, they remind me of The Filthy Critic.

Re:just got back from ice age
"Hollywood is scared shitless of believing in anything. That's why they spend so
much fucking money asking test audiences to write their endings for
them. So, what we get are technologically perfect movies with no soul.
That's Ice Age: millions of dollars of computers thrown at a
bland script full of pooping and animals getting bonked on the head.
It looks great, but where its heart should be is a hack screenwriter
doing exactly what a bunch of play-it-safe executives and focus groups
ask for. It's like having a CD of a shitty album when it's way better
to have a vinyl copy of a great one."

Rob Malda caught in circle jerk--kills self
I just read the story on a homosexual news site. It doesn't mention many details but says Slashdot's founder Rob "CmdrTaco" Malda has been found dead. He murdered himself after being caught by his wife, Kathleen Fent, while in a circle jerk at the local pool. News has it that CmdrTaco was with fellow Slashdot editors when the incident with Kathleen occurred.
Whether or not you were a fan of his openly gay attitude and right wing political views, you cannot deny CmdrTaco's contributions to the alternative sexuality community.
As a memorial, he will be fucked repeatedly in his gaping anal cavity by fellow geeks. Then his pasty white body will be burried, along with the many "extra-small" sized spent condoms.
It is indeed a black day as he will be sadly missed by his former gay geek friends and male prostitutes. Rob "CmdrTaco" Malda was truely a homo-geek icon, and I am sure the "Open Sauce" community was proud that he was once their own. -
Ridley Scott works for the CIA
Ridley Scott started being a spin-doctor for Uncle Sam when he realised he couldn't cut it as a real unicorn fetishist... *cough* I mean director. Black Hawk Down is nothing but a propaganda flick.
N.B. Legend is an underrated movie. Evil and sexy like a good fairy tale should be. ;-) -
Re:What is PHB?
I think it means pathetic hairlip b***h (a la Filthy) or was it pr0n hoarding bastard. Oh, I remember it is pubic hair brush.

DON'T YOU KNOW?
Rob Malda caught in circle-jerk--kills self
I just read this on a news site. It doesn't mention many details but says Slashdot's founder Rob "CmdrTaco" Malda (AKA Stewart Denton) has been found dead. Murdered himself after being caught in a ----------- scandal with fellow Slashdot editors (using aliases). Whether or not you were a fan of his openly gay attitude and right wing political views, you cannot deny his contributions to the alternative sexuality community. As a memorial, he will be ass reamed one last time before his pasty white body is burried. It is indeed a black day as he will be sadly missed by his former turd-burglars (for The Turd Report). Truly a homo-geek icon. -
Re:Ill keep posting crap
keep posting stuff about cmdrtaco, it gets modded down quickly.

Re:Is it me or?
I've yet to see such a site given anything less than 'average or above' reviews
Not about books, but The Filthy Critic does call movies the way he sees them. -
The only critic that matters is Mr. Filthy
The good ole Filthy Critic's reviews always seems to be right on the money - his current review of Blackhawk Down kept me laughing....

Re:Memento was a much better film then LOTR.
To put it bluntly: Memento forced me to think, while LOTR had me gaping at the screen, drooling into my popcorn.
I think Memento beat LOTR in originality but overall the better cinematic experience was LOTR.
Filthy sums up best what I didn't like about Memento.
Then again, these awards aren't about how good or bad a movie is and I think we all know that.
With 95% of new movies being the same old Hollywood gunk, I'm actually glad to see this move. That's Lobstertainment! -
Not surprising at all...

Re:My FOTR Review
Now this is the review that should have been posted instead of CmdrTaco's lame uninformative drivel. This review reminded me a lot of the reviews done by The Filthy Critic.
-
2nd Opinion Required
I think I'll wait and see what The Filthy Critic thinks about it.
-
Filthy CriticAnd for those of us who disagree with Katz' movie takes most of the time, it's refreshing to note that the Filthy Critic gave it only 2 fingers:
-
Re:This might be very bad.
Even Microsofts high marketshare is mainly based on hollywoods movies because they always show windows and people think that every computer must have windows and therefore buy only computers with windows.
I don't know about that. It seems that in most movies that I see, all of the machines are Macs. They are especially visible in movies such as Independence Day, and Mission Impossible. I think that they used SGIs in Jurassic Park, but I can't recall off of the top of my head any instance where I saw a windows logo in a movie.
But anyway I think that I like filthy's review of the movie much better. -
Funny,
..this is the one movie I absolutely do not want to see this year. I can't wait to go read the The Filthy Critic's review of this one (can you say one finger?)!

Ah! Katz! Plus, Smith is overrated
Dammit, I thought I had jon katz filtered out. What is this crap? I want a refund.
Anyway, while I'm here, I thought I'd throw out a reference to Affleck and Damon from the Filthy Critic in his review of Dogma, which was right on the money.
Ben "I still can't act" Affuck and Matt "My friend can't act" Damon are two fallen angels [...]
I semi-admired Smith's work before Dogma. Clerks was a diamond in the rough, and Chasing Amy dealt fairly intelligently with a sensitive subject. Even Smith panned Mall Rats as being the product of a studio that wouldn't let him have creative control.
Finally, Dogma came out. Here was Smith's opportunity to shine. He had the money to hire some big names, the clout to make the film he wanted, and it was based on a pointed look at religion and Catholicism -- a favorite subject of mine. But he blew it! Smith was okay when he was pushing the limits to gain some credibility, but now that he's made it, his self-congratulatory, 7-11 pseudo-intellectual rants are just lame.
I really wanted to like Smith's movies so much. There's a kernel in his work that I want to see flourish, but Smith's execution just leaves too much to be desired. The Filthy Critic really hits the nail on the head when he describes the problems with Dogma. I would recommend reading the review. It really rates a +5 Insightful.
I think I'm going to pass on JASBSB and maybe see it when it airs on HBO. Smith doesn't get me out to the theatres again until he gets a little hungrier. -

Re:Ben Affleck was more lifelike in this movie.Well it should have been him... Alec Baldwin is one of those acting prima donna's(started using that word after a previous article). He just shows up and you can expect two things...
- There will be overacting.
- You can expect a heroic near death sequence, or death sequence
The worst vice is advice... -
Quote whores
I think The Filthy Critic does not read slashdot. Otherwise, slashdot editors would have gotten Filthy's "Quote Whore of the Week" at least once by now. Could we kiss up to some crappy movies a little more?

Re:The Good News: Taco is a Poet
I thought that CmdrTaco reads the Filthy Critic.. he could at least pick up a few gems in there. He sounds like the local sour movie critic you expect in a city newspaper.
A good example from a reader of said site: "I saw this movie on an airplane, and despite the obvious danger, I almost walked out."
-- -
Filthy
And this is why the Filthy critic is the only critic I trust (he hates everything.) Filthy himself.
-
Re:Trust only the Filthy CriticDoh!
It seems that The Filthy Critic already knows about this fake reviewer, and posts his comments about this, and the new Rob Schneider film, on his site. I meant to add this to my previous post (Taco, it would be nice if when I hit the return key, it previews the post instead of submitting it.)
-
Trust only the Filthy Critic
I have to say of all the movie reviewers I've read, I think that only the Filthy Critic has all his shit in the same sock. I just wish he'd review things a little more often, though.
-
Re:as always...
Here, of course is a link to The Filthy Critic.
