Re: How is FILMING "speech"?
gathering evidence in support of one's claims -- particularly against the government -- is an integral part of the freedoms of speech and seeking redress
Actually, no, I don't think that's a valid explanation. For example, this guy — who merely wanted to gather exactly the evidence you are talking about — was convicted of "entering a federal building under false pretenses". By the logic you are putting forth, all his actions should be covered by the First Amendment...
Similarly, the computer hacking for stuff to publicly disclose later is merely "gathering evidence" for future speech... Heck, just about anything done in order to talk about it in the future must be protected by the First Amendment — rape and murder included — if we follow the proposed line of reasoning.

He flirts and hits on 10-15 year old girls regularly (often enough that there are multiple tapes of him doing it). He liked walked in on underage teenage girls naked changing and bragged about being the only man allowed to do it on the Howard Stern show. He had his staff try to encourage the underage teenage girls that were naked to flirt with him saying they were more likely to win the contests if they did. He talked about wanting to sleep with teenage girls on the Howard Stern show. In my opinion, that makes him a pedophile.

Re: If you want to come to my country...
The wife and suspected catalyst in the San Bernadino massacre would have been barred from entry if the feds had had access to her social media, as she had a lot of radical stuff. So no, it doesn't just affect honest people. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/co...
Visa applicants can probably get away with saying that they don't have social media as part of the affidavit on penalty of perjury, but the US government may ask social media sites to run a facial recognition scan on you of all photo posts from your home region, and/or a scan for your name in your region. If they can pick you out in that data set, they can find all of your friends who do have social media, and the account at the center of the relational web had better be your mom or your spouse. If it is something like Islamonut42, then odds are that is your account and you are concealing it and you should probably pack a bag for Gitmo because they will get a FISA warrant and get into that account anyway along with all of your electronic devices and track you back through your IP. If you are not actively going into the visa process as a terrorist, it is in your best interest to be honest.

Maybe the Chinese aren't concerned about global warming, but something else. I'm thinking solar is probably a good alternative to burning coal if most of your cities look like this

Maybe that works in a board room, but how many international incidents has he created in his first 10 days?
- Mexico: the wall, the tariff; Mexican president cancels trip to the U.S.
- Iran: "putting Iran on notice" and he "won't be as kind to Iran as Obama was"
- The world: the Muslim ban
- Australia: abruptly ended a phone call with the Australian PM, and is now sending top advisers to calm the situation. You know, one of the top countries we need on our side with respect to the South China Sea dispute.
I don't know whether I'm counting down the days to the impeachment or to the end of us all, but the clock is definitely running.

Re:Trolling in the summary
Gainfully employed bartender in Vermont is a just-so story.
One year previous to your "couple of years ago", Vermont had the highest rate of illicit drug usage in the US.
Did your "free-roaming vacation" take you past the burnout hovels in St. Alban, Winooski, Brattleboro, Barre, Rutland? If so, I'm guessing you didn't have an hour-long wait at the bar in a Rutland Saturday night friends-and-family shooting gallery.
My point is that your just-so story about how a single (or a dozen) hard-working bartenders in Vermont provide a much better population context for socialist governance than people "three generations deep in Section 8 housing and welfare" is an anecdote that says nothing about the benefits of socialist economic agenda in urban and rural contexts.

Re:INTERNATIONAL Business Machines
That's not what International means.
"International companies have no foreign direct investments (FDI) and make their product or service only in their home country. In other words, they're exporters and importers. They have no staff, warehouses, or sales offices in foreign countries. The best examples of international companies, in the strict sense, are exotic retail shops that sell imported products, or small local manufacturers that export to neighboring countries." : http://www.cbsnews.com/news/ge...

ok, someone modded it down, but the push with "cyber security" and power is not a new thing. Remember when they wanted an 'internet kill switch?' The United States is three times the size of India.
If you're talking about population. India is by far the world's largest democracy. If you're talking about land size. Canada is the world's largest democracy. (unless you consider Russia democratic- then it is). If you're talking about weight of the average person then... yes... in that scenario, the US is the largest democracy.

Re:Kick out the liberals
Perhaps you would like to discuss long pointless talks about global warming with Trump. In his filing for his Scottish golf course, he explicitly mentions the need to build a sea wall to protect it because, wait for it, current scientific evidence points to a rise in sea levels which would increase erosion.
You can read Trump's own words right here. Let me point out what Trump said in his petition:
"If the predictions of an increase in sea level rise as a result of global warming prove correct, however, it is likely that there will be a corresponding increase in coastal erosion rates not just in Doughmore Bay but around much of the coastline of Ireland. In our view, it could reasonably be expected that the rate of sea level rise might become twice of that presently occurring.
... As a result, we would expect the rate of dune recession to increase,"Of coarse (sic) this is the same guy who has tried to stop construction of wind farms off the coast of Ireland and Scotland and also says wind farms are not economically viable while simultaneously investing in wind farm companies.
So what was that about producing huge amounts of CO2?

Re:Good news!
After parthogenesis is perfected, a few women will go for it. And the rest will go for men as usual, for a variety of reasons: * More fun! * Simpler/cheaper procedure, no need for pills/equipment. A handful one-night stands is all a woman really need from men anyway. * Men are useful for painting walls, fixing car tires, removing snow, carrying stuff from shops, . . . * Alimony
That depends on how many men are going to put up with that shit. Seema a fiar number are dropping out of that mess.
I think it's like this - what is in it for men? That one night stand might get you accused of rape, or certainly you might get nailed for child support intil the offspring graduates college if you being used as an insemination utility is successful. And a man who donates sperm had better understand that he can now be liable for child support. http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/23/...
For those who don't want to read the link, a man who donated sperm to a lesbian couple was successfully sued for child support when the couple fell on financial hard times.

Re:NIMBY in full effect
I'd rather them not turn me off prematurely just so they can steal my organs, thanks.
Cases in point: http://legalpublication.blogsp...
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/or...
And here's the icing on the cake: http://www.melissacaulk.com/th...
I'll just leave this here form the article:
"In a shocking statement, Dr. Neil Lazar, Director of the Medical-Surgical Intensive Care unit at Toronto General Hospital, says the focus should be on the well-being of donors rather than whether they are legally dead. That could mean giving anesthetics during organ harvesting.
He and his co-authors, Dr. Maxwell J. Smith of the University of Toronto, and David Rodriguez-Arias of Universidad del Pais Vasco in Spain, advocate replacing the current “dead-donor rule” with a policy that educates the public about the true nature of patients used in transplants, obtain informed consent from everyone — and ensure the donor does not suffer during the organ harvesting. The study was published in the American Journal of Bioethics.
The authors state frankly that under current practices donors may be technically still alive when organs are harvested – a necessary condition to produce healthy, living organs. Because of this, they say that protocol requiring a donor’s death is “dangerously misleading,” and could overlook the well-being of the donor who may still be able to suffer during the harvesting procedure.
All I know is that if I need anesthetics while they are ripping me apart, I might have a few concerns about whether I am dead or not.

Re:And?
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/ca...
In a dramatic demonstration, he and his colleagues use a laptop computer to hack into a car being driven by Stahl. Much to her surprise, they were able to take control of many of the car's functions, including the braking and acceleration.
Yeah that's, like, very credible. (Have you actually bothered to read the full thing?).
http://www.cnbc.com/2015/07/22...
In a controlled test, they turned on the Jeep Cherokee's radio and activated other inessential features before rewriting code embedded in the entertainment system hardware to issue commands through the internal network to steering, brakes and the engine.
Translation: their commands were ignored or didn't even reach the intended systems. If they had actually managed to "disable the brakes", they'd probably mention it in a bit more than a vague subsentence like that.
http://www.infoworld.com/artic...
They also cause the steering wheel to jerk around by making the car think it's in reverse and activating the auto-park feature, and thanks to their hacks, the car's brake pedal ceased to work entirely.
Translation (if honest): at very low speeds, we can actually disable the brake pedal.
Color me impressed. I'm glad that car wouldn't be allowed on EU roads. In fact, Valasek and Miller ask Greenberg to turn off the car after their speedometer prank, most likely to head off the car deploying its airbag when its speed drops rapidly from 199mph to the actual number, which the car would interpret as a crash.
That's a wild, and wrong, guess. That's not how airbags deploy.
http://www.cnn.com/videos/tech...
I honestly tried to watch the video but it's unclear which of the few dozens 3rd party javascripts to allow for it to actually play.
https://www.washingtonpost.com...
Not only does the computer weakness allow hackers to manipulate the locks and turn off the engine, it also enables them to cut the brakes. They can even take over the steering wheel if the car is in reverse
That sounds like the paragraph above re-digested.
https://www.ic3.gov/media/2016...
[disabling the brakes at low speed only] (paraphrased)
Meh.
Well, at least I have learned that American cars may actually have brake-by-wire, fair enough. In the developed world, there are safety requirements, like a redundant physical link between the brake pedal and the actual brakes, that has to work regardless of failure of one of the brake-supporting systems.

Re:A confused article
Basically texas gets a 2.3 c per kwh subsidy for 10 years for new private wind construction. It incents selling "free" wind power during periods of excess supply.
Reliant charges 15.5 c per kwh in Houston (they still have nuclear in the mix). Many other power companies charge between 8c/kwh and 12c/kwh with contracts ranging from 8 to 36 months.
When you consider the country has spent well over 2 trillion dollars to protect oil interests, every dime spent on wind power is money well spent. So far only construction workers have died buildilng wind. We haven't had to spend 4,000 lives (and another 2.9 MILLION young men and women permanently disabled to some degree) to protect wind power like we did to protect oil wells.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/nu...
Likewise, as we go to electric vehicles, ever penny put into wind power (and conservation and solar power) directly takes money out of terrorist pockets by suppressing demand and hence the price for oil. We only need to suppress demand by about 2% to collapse prices.
In absolute numbers wind subsidies are still very small because "big wind" is tiny compared to "big oil". If you do a casual google, you'll find a lot of anti-wind propaganda. As you dig into the various "institutes" you'll find they are funded by big oil.
For example.. the "Institute for Energy Reseach" is a front for Koch and Enron.
http://www.sourcewatch.org/ind...Wind is GOOD for us.
Solar is GOOD for us.They both make oil and electricity prices lower.
Most wind subsidies are TINY (under half a billion).
Most Oil and Coal subsidies are embedded in the system so deep they seem like government functions but we wouldn't NEED to invade iraq or supersite pollution sites if we had more wind and solar.(As wind and especially Solar get bigger, we'll probably start seeing some new kinds of pollution associated with them however. No free lunch).

Re:heck of a choice
Trump has a long track record of running hundreds of business ventures.
Many of which have failed, declared bankruptcy or are barely keeping their head above water. His repeated lies about how much his businesses are worth are undermined by his own attorneys who keep arguing the properties are worth substantially less for tax purposes.
and a long track record of raking in millions in cash for her family while being Secretary of State.
False. Completely false. Hillary Clinton, or her family, never profited from any contributions or otherwise while she was Secretary of State. Nor from their foundation.
Contrast that with Trump who bragged about siphoning millions from his casinos while they were plunging into bankruptcy:
"Atlantic City fueled a lot of growth for me," Mr. Trump said in an interview in May, summing up his 25-year history here. "The money I took out of there was incredible."
Further, Trump's "foundation" has been illegally paying his legal bills, his personal bills and buying him things. That is why the New York Attorney General has barred him from soliciting for donations in the entire state of New York.
You just like the fact that she was completely beholden to her financiers on Wall Street, as opposed to Trump, who paid his own way through to his nomination as a candidate
False again. Trump received tens of millions from hedge fund managers and Wall Street firms, not to mention his pick to head the Treasury is/was a hedge fund manager AND worked for Goldman Sachs.
Nor did Trump pay his way through the campaign. He started to do so but then had donations come in from regular people, including illegal foreign donations. -

So by all means lets call climate change a hoax. When the inevitable calamities fall, I suspect the deplorables and Breitbart readers will be disproportionately affected and not only will I not shed a tear but I will kick dirt in their faces.
Ok, so which is more important: everyone in the country slipping into poverty and terrorist attacks from immigrants next year, or...
Global warming, only [our] part of which can fixed by us, is driven by political corruption, and won't affect us for a couple of decades?
Of these issues, political corruption is the biggest impediment to rational climate change action. Getting rid of that has to come first, and only then can we expect to make progress on the other issues.
Do you think anything would get done under a Clinton administration?
We knew Trump had shortcomings, and still elected him - warts and all. We did it because he promised to fix certain issues that we felt were more important in the near term. Global warming will kill us, but, mass poverty will kill us sooner.
I'm completely happy taking steps to curb global warming, but a) I want to be safe doing it, and b) I want to eat first.
Get some perspective. Not everything Trump is going to do will be bad, and you always have 2024 to look forward to.

Re: Finally, the gloves will come off!
As it turns out, for the purposes of hiring and firing, political orientation is a protected class in some states, such as California. Which is why the CEO of Grubhub had to backtrack from his original e-mail to employees asking Trump supporters to resign.
(Original Story), (Backtracking story)
In the case of Twitter, I'm not sure if they aren't already exposed to some legal consequences for their decision--however, I'm not seeing the AG of California stepping up and doing anything here, since it's pretty clear in this political climate we're slowly turning all of these tools (both legal and technological) into weapons to bash the opposition--generally the right, as most tech companies both reside in liberal areas and tend to lean liberal themselves.
However, given the problems Twitter seems to be having as a business (being unable to monetize its audience without breaking the platform), I suspect pissing off half your audience is not going to help the bottom line--and ultimately Twitter may find itself on the losing end of free market competition.

Re:Dear Apple fans:
Wow. Just spotted this response, and can't help but replying.
All hand labor, no. That hand labor is critical to the product's profitability, yes. Could we produce the exact same product at that volume in this country without a heavy cost increase, no. We would change the product and produce it with virtually no employees. It would employ a lot of construction folks up front and a smattering of maintenance folks during its operation.
First of all, 200 million widgets, even as complex as smartphones, can be built by a few thousand people today, easily. Foxconn is the tenth largest employer in the world because they use people as robots.
They now work diligently to keep the extent of that secret, but it was clearly reported as recently as 2012. I can't find the detailed engineering analysis I read a couple of years ago showing why the iPhone design required hand assembly whereas others could be assembled entirely without human hands. Too bad, it was much more technical than the following two links on the work conditions required to produce iPhones at such a high profit level - though you might notice the following statement in the first.
"Both the iPhone and the iPad are assembled almost entirely by hand. Three hundred and twenty-five pairs of hands per device, to be precise, over a period of five days."
-
I stand corrected then. With a caveat.
Caveat being that there most likely won't be any leftovers.
Considering that the full cost is "likely to be $6-7 million" and that they are just over the $6 million mark right now.
And that they have made that announcement about "candidate schools" before reaching their goal.
Which in worst/best case (depending how you look at it) might result in a few more Green Party candidates in those states, come next elections.
But most likely, they may even end up in debt. Them lawyers be expensive.
And people knowing where any extra money will go... if they don't want to help them out beyond that mark... it IS their choice to keep giving them money.Or, if one wants to be a paranoid Democrat about it... worst case may be "helping them reelect Trump in 2020."
"Them" being the Green Party.
I.e. The side standing to MAYBE gain something from the process also taking on all the potential risk. Which, last I checked, was described either as "Nothing ventured, nothing gained" or "In for a penny, in for a pound".Though, apparently such paranoia lasts less than half an hour before being rationalized away.

Which is the real election fraud. Almost all the causes the voter ID fraudsters point to are actually cases of voter registration fraud, which is impossible to prevent with ID's. And almost all of the rest of the cases they can point to are cases of felons trying to vote, or someone voting in person as well as by absentee ballot - also not preventable by voter ID.
Mickey Mouse trying to vote in person is on the order of 30 votes out a billion cast, or functionally non-existent. Contrast that to 70,000 voters purged from the rolls in Florida, just in one state, in just one election in 2000.

The vast majority of people on either side are completely peaceful. But when you look at the retoric that was spewed by one candidate in particular, it's not hard to see why people are angry.
Also, what happened to the whole "rigged election" thing? Seems like the ol' Trumpster clammed up on that subject right around November 8th, didn't he?

"he was liberal when he was young, and grew conservative as he was older."
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/wh...
"..former friend who wrote he had once been "very liberal" and added, "he was left wing when I knew him in his & college, 3 years ago. So he may have changed, who knows."
And I think you are missing my point entirely.

Re:He should be in jail...
Vent all you want but your words ring hollow when for the last eight years all we've heard is how bad things are, how horrible this president has been, how he should be impeached (for doing his job), and all the other vitriol cast upon him almost solely because of his race
References, please. Who said these things? Random Internet trolls, or what? I haven't seen any major figures in the Republican party cast vitriol on President Obama because of his race.
I can't claim that none of them are racists, but I can claim that none of them were caught saying such things, because the news media has a field day anytime a Republican says something stupid or hateful or embarrassing.
If things are so bad then why suddenly, when not a single thing has changed in the last week, are Republicans suddenly saying the economy is doing well and there are no problems?
Your reference does not support your claim. You said that Republicans are suddenly saying that the economy is doing well, but you linked to a poll about whether the economy will improve or not ("economic confidence"). And surprise surprise, Democrats polled believe that the economy will do worse now that Trump was elected, while Republicans polled believe that the economy will do better.
Because in a Republican's world if you don't bow down to your leader, if you don't blindly follow the leader, if you don't think like the leader, you're an enemy. Wouldn't want to open a Republican's hypocritical and bigoted mind by listening to others who don't agree, now would we?
I'm sure you could find some examples of Republicans like this, if you look. But I can find plenty of examples of Democrats like this, who feel that anyone who isn't a liberal Democrat is an enemy.
President Obama famously said that it's important to vote to "punish your enemies."[1] The Project Veritas videos show multiple Democrat operatives saying that Trump voters are violent and insane, and one referring to Republicans as "you f***ing ****holes".[2] In 2015, Hillary Clinton called Republicans "enemies" and Bill Clinton said she was right to do so. Here's an article detailing a list of Republicans or conservatives who are considered "enemies" by Nancy Pelosi. Harry Reid declared the Koch brothers are "enemies of progress."
Liberals don't like to praise Ronald Reagan, but he was very successful at working with the opposition. He had a famous saying: "It's amazing what you can accomplish if you don't care who gets the credit for it." (It appears that Harry S. Truman said it first... hey, it's bipartisan! And similar quotes have been found from over 150 years ago. source)
[1] Full quote for full context:
"If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, 'We're gonna punish our enemies and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,' if they don't see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it's gonna be harder and that's why I think it's so important that people focus on voting on November 2."
[2] Full quote for full context:
"It's a very easy thing for Republicans to say, 'Well, they're busing people in.' Well, you know what? We've been busing people in to deal with you f***ing ***holes for fifty years and we're not going to stop now, we're just going to find a different way to do it."

Re:Thank you.
DAMN that is a horrifying indictment of the Hillary campaign. She's been exposed repeatedly as a corrupt pol, her top aide Huma has turned against her to save her own skin from jail, and Wikileaks, hero of the Left, has been ceaselessly attacking her for well over a year. Who could possibly vote for her at this point?
Please provide evidence that Huma Abedin has, in any way, "turned" on Clinton. The latest news is that she was supporting Clinton at a private fundraiser in DC the other day. Doesn't sound like someone who has "turned" on her best friend. Sounds like another conspiracy theory.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/hu...
I would suspect that she would be assisting the FBI in the investigation of her husband. But there has been NO evidence or even leaks from the FBI that they have found anything new in their email investigation. In fact, it's quite likely that anything they find is just duplicates of what they already have.
Under Hillary, the Constitution will be further shredded by her Supreme Court appointees until it means nothing. Under Trump, the Left will bizarrely find meaning in this document drafted by whites and use it to bash the government by whatever means necessary. We really don't realize just how destructive it is to our Republic for the press to be working hand in glove with the government like it has been for the past 8 years. It's high time they were in opposition again.
And threatening to lock up your opposition and appoint a "special prosecutor" isn't trampling all over the constitution and the separation of powers between the legislative, executive, and judicial branches?
