Re:I reckon u kin git fuct
"Blacks commit vastly disproportionate amount of crimes, especially violent ones"
All things male are considered bad. [The blatant sexism is everywhere. Making anything and everything a gendered issue (and therefore, a problem with men, of course). - Women of this generation make at least 8% more than similarly qualified males. [Looks like I remembered that 8% number from that Time Magazine article I linked]
White men systemically discriminated against in all spheres of life - from family court - to hiring [They literally had to end blind recruiting because, once the bias against men was removed, MORE men than before were found to be qualified. These talking head idiots didn't even realize that today's system already discriminates in womens' favor. Of course, the solution was to halt the study, lest we have a solid foundation to prove discrimination. But, I think this is VERY good early proof of systemic discrimination in hiring, at least in Australia.] - to welfare (men are not eligible in any way unless disabled or "disabled") [I was somewhat wrong here. If you look under "The Three-Month Time Limit", it appears that women without children cannot get SNAP long-term either. So, I had one, very minor point, which I don't have good evidence from a mainstream source for.]
Looks like it's you who got fucked. Moron.

Re:Dumpster fire
Facebook does not appear to be having much trouble taking down and banning accounts that are guilty of wrongthink. But that's easy. On the other hand, trying to ban all the robo-posted spamcrap that's flooding the remaining pages is apparently too difficult for them.
No, it's the exact opposite.
People are complaining all the time that extreme political content isn't being removed. Take this investigation, for example: https://www.channel4.com/info/...
Note this finding in particular:
"Pages belonging to far-right groups, with large numbers of followers, allowed to exceed deletion threshold, and subject to different treatment in the same category as pages belonging to governments and news organisations."
The documentary explores the reasons for this, basically Facebook thinks that extreme politics are good for its bottom line.
On the other hand they are making great efforts to ban fake accounts and spam, even going as far as to advertise it on TV and on billboards because of the damage that revelations about fake-news and Russian meddling have done.

However some teenagers...
Sadly there is a substantial group who are incapable of entertaining themselves and so who spend their time destroying things. It requires a certain amount of self awareness / social skill to keep yourself entertained. Almost by definition anyone on Slashdot has these skills - but there are a lot of people who don't.
This fly on the wall documentary from Her Majesty's Prison Durham will remind you of their existence

Re:Intolerance
The way Raenex has framed these statements, closes the door to any reasonable discord.
I stated my case plainly and with supporting references, in response to a one-sided diatribe against the right.
Your defense of the intolerant muslim ban is to say that, yes, you are intolerant?
Your defense of mass importation of an intolerant and violent culture is... to say to not do so would be intolerant?? All this concern for LGBT and women's rights flies out the window when it comes to this issue. Strange, isn't it?
You're just making shit up.
All my statements were supported by references. Who's the one attempting reasonable discord? Certainly not you.
I don't see anything on the "left" that is attempting selective immigration by religion or origin
You provide no argument to oppose the claim or defend LGBT people, but just point out that you are absolutely and certainly ostracizing at least the trans portion of those. Isn't this simply confirming your intolerance?
I made a case that the defense of LGBT issues has gone well past the point of reasonableness. You think it's "intolerance" that biological women don't want to have biological men who "identify" as women hanging around them with their genitals hanging out. Does this seem reasonable to you?
Where was BLM mentioned?
That's what has pushed the whole "police brutality" narrative for the past several years.
Are you rounding them all up under the generic "the left" again?
"The left" has indeed adopted and heavily pushed the phony Black Lies Matter narrative, which itself was founded by leftists who idolized the black nationalist, communist, and fugitive cop-killer Assata Shakur.
The article you use as evidence states that there was bias found in police use of force.
A whopping 18%. Now let's talk about how blacks commit many times more violent crime than whites, which is their real problem. Less crime, less interaction with the police, less black on black crime.
If they're illegals, they can't vote.
You completely ignored the part about the US Census. Why should illegals help determine the outcome of the Congress and the Electoral College?
Furthermore, illegals technically "can't work" either, yet they do so via fraudulent means.
How does that relate to voter disenfranchisement, which you have not commented on?
I commented that minorities, who are supposedly being disenfranchised, actually have majority support for voter id laws. Disenfranchisement happens when people who are not eligible to vote do so, by usurping rights exclusively limited to citizens.
Yes, abortion is a divisive issue, but you're using it to wedge us apart here.
I'm not the one who brought it up. I was responding to somebody using it to tar the right as "intolerant" of "womens rights", while ignoring the human life being terminated. Of course it's a complicated issue, and you can make a reasoned case for either side.
I don't know how we'll ever heal this country
I don't know either. We certainly won't by harassing

This is not a one-sided coin
Let's hope other countries do the same thing too.
Remember, agencies of the US government regularly attempt to influence elections overseas, and, oppose the natural desires of their electorate

The Color of Crime, 2016 Revised Edition
Quote: "In 2013, a black was six times more likely than a non-black to commit murder, and 12 times more likely to murder someone of another race than to be murdered by someone of another race."
Another quote: "If New York City were all white, the murder rate would drop by 91 percent, the robbery rate by 81 percent, and the shootings rate by 97 percent."
Do black Americans commit more crime?
Quote: "Blacks were disproportionately likely to commit homicide and to be the victims. In 2008 the offending rate for blacks was seven times higher than for whites and the victimization rate was six times higher."

Cambridge Analytica wasn't just about collection data - it is about weaponizing it. Watch the channel 4 documentary about this - its rather shocking what they tell a potential client what they have done and what they will do for him

Re: DUH
What law prohibits hiring a foreign worker for a campaign?
I'm sorry I didn't respond to you earlier. I was too busy following the recent developments in the story. It appears that FEC violations would be the least of Cambridge Analytica's problems, considering there is now video tape of their CEO confessing to bribery, blackmail and using Ukranian prostitutes for purposes of blackmail (human trafficking). And not just once, but admitting on camera that they have a "history" of doing this. Did I mention that he said all these things on video?
This is becoming so much fun.

Re:Slashdot loved Obama Campaigns data analytics
It's hilarious that the left had to invent the term "whataboutism"
It's merely a new label for the fallacy, a subspecies of argumentum ad hominem, traditionally known as the tu quoque fallacy. It remains a fallacy no matter who calls it or by what name they call it. The putative wrongdoing of a speaker is no answer to that speaker's accusations of wrongdoing. This is not, or should not be, a left vs right issue.
If you are not capable of mounting an argument (or defence) any more substantial than "no you are!" perhaps arguing (or defending) isn't your forte?
... examples on their side that are 10x worseAny particular wrong doing by other parties is a separate question. Whatever wrongs the Obama campaign may have committed, especially if they encompass criminality, should certainly be pursued in their own right. However, not only is a claim that Obama's campaign was just as bad, a fortiori that was "10x worse," hopelessly irrelevant as an answer to the accusations now being levelled against Cambridge Analytica --nothing in the articles presented above to bolster this fallacy even approaches the level of malfeasance suggested by the recent news that is coming out about CA's activities.
-
Re:What crime is being alleged here?
Boo boy Nix (the CEO of CA) got stung by undercover news agents saying he plants video surveillance on Ukrainian hookers or sends in wealthy developers with bribes too good to be true, and gets komoromat on them. Tomorrow, they are airing how they secretly taped thier operations in the USA. It's not clear if the British government will shut down the broadcast due to its sensitive nature. I'd list the stated crimes but slashdot has a viewable limit.

Cambridge Analytica, hookers & blow
This just came across the transom. Apparently, Cambridge Analytica was doing more than just data mining for the Trump campaign.

Re:So in other words, ban porn?
You mean those numbers from the BBC? Well you enjoy that.
So tell me what parts of "death for apostates" "you can rape women" "women are valued less then men" "death for homosexuals" "ban on gay marriage" etc, etc, etc. Is compatible with western culture? Because large segments, even 2nd and 3rd generation kids strongly believe in those ideas, some even more so then their parents do.
No, you know what would be reassuring? That if someone comes to the west they actually want to integrate. You know, like my parents did. One half which was from west germany, and the other half from japan. Who dumped their old world beliefs when they came here, banned speaking anything but english at home and embraced the new culture.

Re:Death of peronal responsibility
There was a program on Channel 4 here in the UK a while back called "Secret Eaters"
http://www.channel4.com/progra...
Explodes the myth of fat people claiming they don't each too much. Basically the premise of the program is people kept a complete food diary. This was then compared to what they actually ate determined by close surveillance. The result was that in all cases the fat people lied through their fat asses about what they ate to the tune of thousands of calories a day on average.
A bit of Googling tells me that the show is coming (or possibly has already come) to the USA.

Re:US South
It is statistically a fact that in the U.S. a black person is roughly 7 times more likely to commit murder than a white person (about 7 thousands of a percent vs. 1 thousandth of a percent):
http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cj...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D...The problem with this statistic is that it ties violent crime to race without properly normalizing for income inequality. Efforts to do this have seen mixed results: http://blogs.channel4.com/fact...
The only thing that is certain is that poverty and neighborhood conditions are directly and unequivocally linked to major crime. It is pretty clear that promoting education and opportunity is vastly more effective at reducing crime and violence than targeting race.
If you normalised for income, wouldn't the stats then say that poor black people are much more likely to murder than poor white or asian people?

Re:Move more, eat less
For those in the UK,
http://www.channel4.com/progra...
Basically confirmed what I always thought, 99.99% of obese people eat too much. Worse than that when asked to keep an accurate food diary of everything they eat, they don't. Diary typically says 2000 calories, they are actually eating 5000+ calories. The other people eat the same as me and are not over weight is total nonsense.

Re:Trust us with your payments
I haven't ever had any fraudulent transactions on my credit card. That doesn't mean credit cards are secure. It's just means personal experience isn't data.
I'm also in Europe, and there was a report on BBC Radio 4 about "phantom" transactions with NFC cards. And if they are covering it, this isn't an obscure possibility.
Here's the first result that comes up for NFC fraud on Google. There are many more if you want to do your own research.
http://www.channel4.com/news/m...The Apple system isn't susceptible to this though. Both because it negotiates one off payment codes from the payment processors, and because you need to approve a payment at the time of purchase with your fingerprint.

There's a better article on the UK Channel 4 site (C4 will broadcast the documentary):

Do you believe this crap, Dascombe?
"The father of the Boston bombing suspects claims to Channel 4 News that the FBI telephoned his elder son after the attack, and prior to a fatal shootout that claimed the life of a police officer."
"the FBI interviewed Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the elder brother of Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, in 2011 at the request of a foreign government to see if he had any extremist ties"
"Tamerlan Tsarnaev attended a workshop sponsored by the CIA-linked Jamestown Foundation,Izvestia reports today (see English translation here). The Russian newspaper cites documents produced by the Counterintelligence Department Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia confirming that the NGO “Fund of Caucasus” held workshops in the summer of 2012 and Tsarnaev attended." -

See it somewhere else first
the Smithsonian Channel original documentary, "The Incredible Bionic Man."
Not original at all. If you want to see the what's likely the entire program before it airs on Smithsonian, it's almost certainly a dubbed over and slightly recut version of the Channel 4 documentary How to Build a Bionic Man. Same presenter, same robot, aired back in February. UK viewers (or those with a UK proxy) can watch it on 4od, those outside the UK can likely fine a torrent with ease.

Quelle Surprise
Of course they're at war. This is one of the most incompetent and scientifically illiterate governments in living memory. It's packed full of lunatic ideologues like Ian Duncan Smith and Teresa May who sideline professional academic advice time and time again in favour of their own prejudices stupidity and ignorance. I just wish their misguided, harmful and plain unworkable policies wouldn't wreck this countries social and political fabric for generations to come. It would be funny if the human cost wasn't so high
And you know what? In spite of this, the main opposition is still unable to differentiate itself as a better alternative than this shower of charlatans, bigots and liars.
I despair at this country. I really do. -

Mysteriously all of the cameras (that the uk is known for) in the area were "not working" that day
Which is the primary reason why I have been avoiding the UK like the plague. The UK is the prime example of what the US should not become: a police state with 1 CCTV camera per 14 people (source).

Very much agree with this. Recently watched a program called The Boy Who Can't Forget that looks at this. They interviewed Jill Price who suffers from hyperthymesia; she talks about the trauma she suffers because of it (the pain of never being able to forget your mistakes particularly).

Re:'Last thirty seconds'

Re:At what point...
we're not allowed to own guns the same way you Americans are, yes, these restrictions haven't done a damn thing to stop the increase in 'gun crime' in the UK (Fact: gun crime is on the rise, and it is now easier to get large calibre handguns on the 'black market' since the UK government banned the ownership of the things)
That's not a fact at all. Gun crime in the UK peaked in 2003/2004. It's been declining since.

Re:He might not think it works, but IS a politicia
If you read the Early Day Motion he signed in 2007, he says is that he "believes that complementary medicine has the potential to offer clinically-effective and cost-effective solutions to common health problems faced by NHS patients" (emphasis mine). To be fair, he was only one of 206 MPs (including such luminaries as Nick Clegg, the Deputy Prime Minister) who signed the motion. That's almost a third of British MPs who believe the NHS should be spending upwards of £4 million* per year treating sick people with something that works no better than a sugar pill.
* This is from the £12 million 2005-2008 expenditure figures for homeopathy obtained by Channel 4, which apparently doesn't include the running costs of the NHS homeopathic hospitals that the Early Day Motion is supporting. -

And in Europe we tend to see privacy as opt-out rather than opt-in.

Not much "opt out" there.
