Re:Flame on, baby, flame on
I think I may be able to clear this up. Now I may be wrong, it may be just be, but I've always understood trolling to be speech meant to in inflame and get a bunch of nasty comments going without any real merit. For example everyone be discussing some topic and someone drops in with "You must be a God Damned Nigger to think like that, because only a nigger would be so fucking stupid". That doesn't stay on topic, doesn't bring anything to the conversation, and is meant to sidetrack the discussion and get a nice flamewar going. This video has further examples.
Now for me TFA doesn't really fit what I would call a troll. In this case author see problem, tries to think of solution to problem. Now solution may not be good, hell it may be moronic and cause more problems than it solves, but as we have seen with congress just because a solution is stupid doesn't mean that someone won't try it. Now the writing of TFA sucks, but then again so does 90% of the writing on the Internet so I can't really fault him for being a shitty writer.
But it IS a stupid answer to a real problem, as we have seen getting congress involved with anything even slightly murky usually ends in a giant clusterfuck. But I honestly don't think he is trolling, just one of those that believes "when in doubt the government can fix it" which sadly is the belief of waaaay too many nowadays, but it doesn't make it trolling, just naive.

I want Textadventures!
Why are there no textadventures/"choose your own adventure"-books for the kindle or any other ereader?
Also, these interactive kiddie books might lead to the kindle 3 being like this: http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1910868

Re:Wow
Is anyone getting flashbacks of that Westwood College advertisement where the two losers are "working" at a video game production house, and explain to their boss that they need to "tighten up the graphics on Level 3?"

Re:I HATE invisible walls
Your comment reminded me of this hilarious "Sims Horror Movie" video:
"There's no conceivable way to cross this gate."Back when I played D&D, the difference between a good and a bad dungeon master was that when playing with bad DM you would feel like you were more in a rail-quest and if you happened to do something the DM has not planned he would freak out. Great DMs accepted your choices and had a lot of resources to try to make the story flow smooth with your decisions.

Re:We are all /b/tards. Not all of us accept that.
Hey then there is a video just for you! Enjoy!

Re:Take that!
Now where did I hear something like that? Oh yeah here. Funny how every thread here on
/. has at least one section where this would fit. -
Re:Well, you're doomed...
Those inbred perverts fuck their cousins by night and outlaw interracial sex by day. Goddamn perverts. And hypocrites.
Well, cousins do make a really good lay... However, Doc Brown enables the best lay.
Later, y'all!

Nah
Nah. Not interested in your proposal, nor in a flame war, so have a nice day Mr. Internet Troll
:)I am sorry if I hurt your feelings by speaking the truth about Apple though. Don't worry, everything will be OK.

Re:Check for the signed label!
I didn't start the flame war. It was started by the summary.
Yes, you are correct, and I stand corrected...
...but at this point, after years of being on
/. I figured I shouldnt even be required to read the summary - much less the article (which we all already know we arent supposed to read), so all I read is the title - and if that's too long, I just read the first few words of it and see how the article was tagged. ;-)Joking aside, I agree with the AC that LostCluster's above post is not off topic. He's right, and I was wrong or hasty in my original post in an attempt at humor that was missed by many (so I later expounded on my true feelings on how Google screwed up).

I hereby invoke Rule #34.
Please cease this thread, there's nothing new to discuss. We've all already seen it before.
But just in case, please provide links.

Re:Almost a Good idea
So apparently Dan is really passionate about making interns lug a 250-pound tricycle all over creation. Dan must be some kind of sadist.
On the plus side, it will give fodder for a new College Humor Original.

Well, not an opera, of course, but probably more fun than what they will produce. And you can actually understand what they are singing.

Re:Isn't it ironic...
Wow, I'm honestly surprised. I was explaining that to a friend two days ago. I'm happy I'm not the only one who can see it. Also, it's hilarious and sad at the same time to see people buy anything made by Apple because it's "Apple". This was parodied here: http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1811646 and what makes it funny is that you're never told what it does.
As for the 1984 video, you all can find it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYecfV3ubP8&feature=related

APL
I have fond memories of Fortran from the only programming course I took in college 25+ years ago. Warm, fuzzy, marshmallow-scented memories. That will sound weird until I tell you that the *other* language we had to use in that class was APL. That wacky-charactered, right-to-left, overstruck, array-spouting beast was the unholy spawn of Greek and Chinese psychotics, raised by ancient Egyptians. While marveling at the power available in a single dense line of APL code was fun (for certain values of "fun"), when we were allowed to use Fortran we felt like subsistence hunter-gatherers visiting McDonalds. "You mean you just *tell* it what to do and it does it? And these words actually mean what they say? Wow!" These days when I dabble with Linux and work on social science software syntax files, I'm grateful for two things from that long-ago course: the general programming concepts I learned in Fortan, and the fact that I don't have to touch APL. Mailbox! Open Mailbox!

Re:Does hollywood have any originality left?
At least the "new" Star Trek "reboot" had a different cast!
Too bad it ripped off most of the plot from Star Wars.
All hollywood knows how to do these days is take the same old worn out theme, slap on a fresh coat of paint and throw it up there
No kidding.

Re:Hoaxing and pranking != journalism
I for one use it as a starting point if I really need to research something, but never as a source itself.
And this is precisely why Wikipedia forbids to accept original research and unverified claims. Those are marked with [citation needed] tags.
From Wikipedia's article on Wikipedia:
Co-founder Jimmy Wales stresses that encyclopedias of any type are not usually appropriate as primary sources, and should not be relied upon as authoritative.[55]
[55] # ^ Helm, Burt (2005-12-14). "Wikipedia: "A Work in Progress"", BusinessWeek. Retrieved on 2007-01-29.
And this is why I don't take the "Professor Wikipedia" video as an insult to wikipedia, but as educational humour.
