Re:He Did No Such Thing
Actually he quite specifically, and at length admits the possibility that games may someday develop to the point where even he sees them as art. He also admits, that since he refuses to *play* any current games, his opinion is largely irrelevant. Basically he maintains the opinion that in his largely ignorant and limit experience, games he's seen are not art as he defines it. Which is a pretty fair position really.
As a gamer, there really are a vanishingly small number of games that come close to being "art". The potentially is there, and a few games come close to reaching that potential, but realistically not many. I mean how many variations of "Person with a variety of weapons shoots, blows up, or otherwise destroys various entities intent on destroying the world" have there been in the last 20 years?
For a gamer's view of why video games have such a hard time being taken seriously, I rather like this article on Cracked.com. Put simply, until games companies accept that they are no longer producing exclusively for 17 year olds, and until we gamers start refusing to accept that the vast majority of games are produced for 17 year olds games will have a hard time being seen as artistic.

The revolutionary war had nothing to do with personal liberties.Christians are still doing nasty things. They can't get away with them in the US, and probably not in the EU, but poverty stricken 3rd world countries it's another matter.

Do Not Want
I already steer clear of the "1 click" option on Amazon. Not only is it something that never should have been patentable, but it's not even a "service" i want to use. If i don't want something enough to go through the usual purchasing process it's really not worth it. I don't need Amazon encouraging me to spend on a whim.
"1-nod" is an even worse idea. People might end up buying something just because of a "smile or even a raise of the eyebrow"? If Amazon actually managed to convince a lot of people to sign up for that service than purchases of items like this would skyrocket. -

You are completely, 100%, wrong. Ignorance is bliss after all. If I drank beer to get high, then having a pint would be pointless. I'm 6'5" 280lbs. One beer does absolutely nothing in terms of intoxication, but damn do I love the taste of beer. It *IS* an acquired taste though, and yes, to start, I didn't like the taste, now, I prefer it to any soft drink. "a psychoactive substance that would otherwise get banned." Do you drink coffee? Is it? Every time I try to go to page 4 or 5 I somehow get redirected back to page one. So it's only showing 5 things for me.
-
Another version...
Looks like a variation on the "5 Things Hollywood Thinks Computers Can Do" article from cracked.com.
Also, i'd like to point out that the Expert Reviews version used really poor examples for their #1 case that computers which are just left on will develop intelligence. V'ger didn't develop intelligence on its own, the original primitive computer was massively upgraded and reprogrammed by some aliens who found it, it wasn't just "left on." In Skynet's case the basic computer was powerful enough to develop sentience and did so almost immediately after being turned on, there was no "just leave it on long enough" involved. The WarGames example from the cracked article was better because it didn't show any signs of intelligence immediately after being turned on, and it involved completely understandable and by now quite outdated technology that clearly would have a hard time opening a modern webpage, much less developing intelligence. -

Casinos are specifically and carefully designed to exploit people's natural instincts
So is World of Warcraft, and no one is trying to outlaw that. Hell, as far as college age people goes, I knew 5 people that dropped out of college as a result of WoW addictions. We're talking playing 100+ hours per week without sleep or going to classes numerous problems with relationships, few friends outside of their addiction, and extreme difficulty holding down a job. In other words, all the hallmarks of a destructive addiction, and any psychologist can tell you that the game is designed to create exactly that.

Sure...
"Later studies suggested this panic was less widespread than newspapers suggested. During this period, many newspapers were concerned that radio, a new medium, would render the press obsolete. In addition, this was a time of yellow journalism, and as a result, journalists took this opportunity to demonstrate the dangers of broadcast by embellishing the story, and the panic that ensued, greatly." see Mass Communication Theory: Foundations, Ferment, and Future By Stanley J. Robert E. Bartholomew suggests that hundreds of thousands were frightened in some way, but notes that evidence of people taking action based on this fear is "scant" and "anecdotal".

Jefferson's a bitch.
Before you tout Jefferson as so awesome, how's this?
Jefferson's wife was already a widow at 23 when they hooked up after her previous husband died in an "accident."
She went on to have six of Jefferson's children, which of course provided only a small fraction of the fucking T.J. required. That's where one of Jefferson's slaves, Sally Hemings came in. The affair between the two never even found an official denial despite heavy press coverage, though he never officially admitted to it, either. It is thought that Jefferson's deathbed confessional treatise, "I Like Big Butts; And I Cannot Lie" was burned by those close to him before it could be publicly released. Since then, inconclusive DNA testing has been done and has found links between the Jefferson and Hemings' offspring, though not with ol' Tom-boy himself.
To make things even juicier for Jeff, she was purportedly his wife's half-sister. Did we mention his wife was his distant cousin? Put it all together and you have a recipe which, when left to bake in the heat emitted by Jefferson's nut sack, rises to become an extremely kinky layer cake being eaten in the White House.

Re:WTF? Just ask the patient. You make a good point. However, there is a fundamental difference between fixing "aberrations" that are centered in the brain/endocrine glands and doing the same with purely physical ones. Yes, I know that Descartes was simply wrong about mind-body dualism (as concluded on the basis of empirical evidence, not pretty arguments) and you cannot separate the two. The point is that not every affliction makes you "special" (though Hollywood or Lifetime would have you believe otherwise). That's a little bit like thinking gamma rays turn you into the Hulk instead of the reality where they'd just fry you up (but subtler, because mental illnesses still have that aura of mystery around them). In most cases, metal illnesses are just plain torture on the afflicted without conferring any offsetting benefits like you see so often in popular culture. For examples, please see this highly engaging article on Cracked (yes, it's Cracked, but it's quite insightful in this case). We absolutely should be wary of mental illness cures but that doesn't mean they don't exist. We have come a long way from the sadistic meathouses of yesteryear when it comes to treating mental illnesses. Things do converge towards an answer more often than not. But everything you or I have said so far is only marginally relevant to the main aspect of the debate.
The only relevant thing here is that it would be immoral to withhold treatment of ailments that the person chooses to have cured in the here and now just because a bunch of people (like the dissenter in tfa) have a certain idea of "the way things should be". By all means, have this discussion with the person before the cure (in the same way that some clinics make patients go through mandatory counseling prior to life-changing procedures like abortion). But we simply do not have the right, moral or otherwise, to make that decision for someone else. By the way, that distinction makes this argument highly asymmetric. It is simply not pro/against. It is a case of the debaters (you and I) just not having the moral right to choosing for someone else (in a situation where their needs can be satisfied without hurting someone else - I say this carefully to make my point inextensible to something like abortion [just don't want to mix this up with that can of worms]).
In the example you used, I would be saddened beyond words if we lost a potential genius because he chose to fix something like OCD or autism and lead a normal life. But that does not give me the right to prevent him from making that choice. After all, people make that choice everyday when it comes to choosing a profession and no one ever suggests that such choices are morally wrong. There were at least three bona fide geniuses in my graduating class who could have (potentially) made revolutionary discoveries in the basic sciences had they chosen to do so. Instead, they decided that they would be happier in a more commercial setting with the purpose of making a good living. The world is a poorer place because of that choice. But I do not believe that anyone had the right to make that decision for them. Are the people afflicted with such diseases then less human than normal folk that a similar choice on their part (to be happy in a narrowly defined sense instead of being "special") is immoral? Kind of a selective and twisted morality if you ask me.
The world cannot be made richer by the unwilling sacrifices of the afflicted. You may be surprised how many of these savants actually decline such cures. Believe it or not, the truly special people often place high importance on the things that make them special and willingly sacrifice mere happiness for the more elusive satisfaction.
Sorry for being so verbose. I should have just said that the title of the first post pretty much says it all, and far more effectively than I just did -WTF? Just ask the patient

Wine tasting is probably 99% bullshit
Your own experience is subjective. I've seen blind tests where professional wine testers were unable to taste the difference between white wine with red food coloring, and actual red wine. In another test, experts rated cheap wine highly, and expensive wine poorly when the labels were exchanged. Even the background colors influence how wine is evaluated. As far as I can tell, it's all bullshit.

Recommendation
You are fighting an impossible cause. We aren't designed to know and care about this many people. If you intend to let your business grow beyond 10 individuals (Yes! Ten. Those people each have at least 3 people they care about, making the minimum count 30 already) then you will fail to accomplish what you are looking for. More importantly, if some of them fall for it and begin to trust others at the office, they run the risk of being *deceived by someone they are attempting to trust*, while at work. You will have effectively attached their desire to work there to the outcome of any one relationship they build at work. If *one* relationship goes sour, the person is that more likely to leave altogether. This is why you want all relationships to "not mean anything" at work. It's important to the business.
Other than that, best of luck.

Re:Why Firefly?
Maybe it's because Joss Whedon hates you. Although I do find it absolutely hilarious that I find Whedon fans defend the offing of both Book and Wash in the movie when one would have served but both seem ridiculous.
I'm not selling the writing short. I find it sloppy writing when you have to kill off more than one "major" character to get a visceral reaction from your audience. Just because it's Mal's story doesn't mean as a storyteller that you should have carte blanche to shit on the other characters. Give them a heroic send off if you're going to off them. My theory on this? Whedon knew this was the end of Firefly and thought fuck it, I'm going to kill my baby.
And, minor point here, why the hell did Mr. Universe get buried at the same place as Book and Wash? The guy wasn't in the TV series, has a few minutes of screen time in the movie and gets the nice plot at the end with two of the show mainstays? Who'd he blow to get that to work for him? -
Re:Summary wrong
"The whole concept of Planck length dictates minimum distances, angles and such, and objects have granularity"
You have been misinformed but it's a common misconception. The Plank length is the base unit for a system of units derived from physical constants, geometries smaller than the PL are where GR theory stops working and QM takes over. That the dividing line between our two best models of the universe should be expressable using nothing but physical constants is quite remarkable and it's probably telling us something we don't yet comprehend. Or as Heisenberg is alleged to have put it; "more fascinating than watching a monkey shit a grandfather clock." -
