Hey, if Jurassic Park taught me anything, it's that all you need is a wide-eyed little girl to say "I know this... this is a UNIX system!".
Brilliant! I had to watch this again (clip)...

Re:Obama?
Obama is a Marxist. So is Bill Ayers, a guy who he wants to separate himself from, but has too many ties to to really distance himself. Do you really want a Marxist to be the commander in chief of the USA? Obama said he wanted to distribute the wealth. Karl Marx said that he wanted people to pay according to their abilities and others to take according to their needs. Obama's "tax cuts" will give checks to people who don't work or pay taxes. More welfare. More weath distribution. This isn't capitalism. This isn't the American way. This is socialism at best, Marxism at the worst.
This will destroy the country. We'll no longer be the economic power that we are. Say goodbye to any possibility at imposing economic sanctions as an alternative to military options.
I leave you with one short video clip:

Re:Actually... not a bad thing
Youtube is a commercial company operating in what is becoming a more and more competitive environment, there are a huge number of video hosting sites, a lot of them operating outside of the US. In this case should youtube prove that it actually really does endeavour to adhere to the law by pursuing CoS for vindictively targeting them, when similar DMCA notices were not handed out to every other video hosting sites containing the same videos.
This unfairly targets youtube and damages their business as well as causing them significant cost in evaluating each of the DMCA notices, notifying users of the claimed infringement, altering the content of the hosting services, evaluating the counter notices and then having to reinstate the content, whilst the competitors suffered no comparable harm. The Corporation of Scientology seems to love picking on youtube and this peculiar focus is really starting to make it appear like the are some anti free speech, privacy invasive, scientologists insurgents skulking amongst the googlites, the cult of google might unfortunately be less of a joke than it should be.
Personally I prefer http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/scientology, now where exactly is that hosted again, something tells the DMCA takedown notices coming out of the US are going to have no affect with that host.

Cleaned up video link
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x692m3_tr2n-cleaned-up-001_fun
Because it was annoying enough for me to figure out which links to click, and I want to save someone else from the effort.
So is this for real? Are they really making a sequel, or is this just some guy's fan-made video? It's pretty good, though. Even with the rough quality (or maybe because of it), it looks like they had guys really riding motorcycles like that, then added CGI over the live footage.

It isn't dust or weather sealed like a toughbook, and you can't run over it and expect it to survive like one, but falling won't hurt it.

This is Fusion ManThis is his web site (english page full of flash).
The news is that's for the first time he did a public demo with loops and other acrobatic stuff. This is quite a feat since he's using only his body to move. Not too bad for a 48-old!
He was last year at the Geneva Invention Exhibition, I've found a video with him in the background where you can also see the 4 jets behind the wing. BTW, a typical Swiss: nice and humble.

Summary Info
Ship that took the shot:
USS Lake Erie
Missle Used:
SM-3 with kinetic interceptor
Tracking was probably provided by the SBX amongst other sensors.
Previous intercept videos of importance:
Japan Defence SM-3 test
Prior shot from USS Lake Erie
The propaganda that I find really funny is the DoD stating that it "nailed" the fuel tank. C'mon, the impact probably released over 100 megajoules of energy. Were they really aiming for the "fuel tank" or just trying to hit the damn thing? With that much energy, who cares?
Big Dick waiving, yes. Technical success, yes. Political success, TBD.
On a side note, I was reading a story written by a guy who was stationed at Thule AFB in Greenland where one of the first BMEWS (Ballistic Missle Early Warning System) Radars was deployed back in the late 50's early 60's. From a tech standpoint, it is quite fascinating what we could do back then with such limited technology and how it was accomplished. Read the intro through the epilog, I enjoyed it, so I'm passing it along... -
Re:Enough anti-iPhone FUD to choke on...This anti-iPhone FUD is pretty crazy. It makes me wonder how many MS shills and bloggers they have on the payroll: You don't have to be paid by Microsoft to find annoyance in Apple's hype factory. It's just like you defending Apple even though you're not on their payroll.
As others have pointed out, you're not so right that people would have to be paid to disagree with you. -
Re:You should chose your "examples" better.
Agreed. There's big difference between this guy and someone else in the same situation. First of all, high school principals shouldn't be drinking and driving. Secondly, if they are pulled over for a DUI they shouldn't be calling their friends on the police force to get them out of it. But I'm a systems engineer. I'm not held to the same standard, and my getting a DUI shouldn't affect my ability to work.

It's more accurate to say that....
Big dumb corporations are in the process of learning that an MMO world is not the same as a billboard or a television channel. The other thing they need to learn is that if they don't have a product that an avatar can use directly (virtual trees, etc) there is nothing there for them and they need to move on.
If you saw some of the SL blog threads you'd laugh. Avatars try to explain they're in Second Life in the first place to get AWAY from advertising and mass media. Their voices are then drowned out by all the wannabee consultants and professional marketing tards.
If you want to see a good depiction of what this is like, check out this video:

If they could only know the future - but we can!
I know that the Slashdot crowd seems to disbelieve in divination, but I personally know many geeks who are deeply involved with the ancient art of Tarot. In the hands of an educated person, the Tarot deck is also a science. Anyone can read the future with the help of a Tarot Master and uncover your destiny just like this short video shows.

Re:Idiots
Eh. While I agree that it's too early to add the 'mote to the top 5 this might change with time, since the software screws up way too often (Red Steel works perfectly for me, Raving Rabbids doesn't - Others experience the exact opposite). Just to underline my fanboy agenda:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=8YePLMI9pu4 (Wii Play Shooting Range 902 pts)
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1nx0g_half-life- 2-wiimote-mod-beta (HL2 with Wiimote)
I think both of these show off just how sensitive the Wiimote can be IF USED CORRECTLY. -
Re:Metisse seems like a novelty.Unlike Beryl and Compiz, Metisse actually seems to be based around the idea of increasing productivity. That's nice to know, because that's not the impression I got from their demonstration videos which feature "folding windows", tilting windows at weird angles in 3D, and a weird sort of mirror reflection effect. That's nice to show off what the engine can do, but in principle all the other fancy 3D managers can do those too -- what really interests me is, as you discuss, actually using all that power to add productivity. I agree that the pager looks nice (although the other effects in that video are a little underwhelming in the productivity stakes). The shading effects shown here could be used nicely to gray out unfocussed windows which, I agree, might be nice (as long as it isn't carried too far). Still, I'm waiting for people to get bored with the gee whiz effects and the more useful things to start to shake themselves out.

Re:I was on the Mad TV site...
I think we need an European youtube...
Yes, we do.
It would look just like Daily Motion, but BETTER. -
Re:What's the point?
But if you simply put a video on YouTube, then everyone can simply ignore it. In fact, most politicians are probably unaware of the existence of YouTube. How does that advance your cause?
Do they need to know YouTube ? Actually, how does a YoutTube video get really popular ?It does not get popular thanks to millions of people spending their time hooked on YouTube and trying to sort the best videos out of the flowing mess that's being uploaded everyday.
It gets popular because of a few people who upload their videos, then spread the word around them, mailing the URLs to tens of people, who in turn post those URLs on their blogs or mail/post them around for the whole world to discover them.
So if your average politician has somebody on his PR staff doing his job, they will surely get the message, sooner or later. In France, there has already been public outrage among teachers because one of the candidates had stated in a video that they should be working more. And this is thanks to DailyMotion. Meanwhile, her main opponent, Nicolas Sarkozy, is doing his best to get a few embarrassing video off the Net, and has succeeded twice in taking down a MySpace account to shut up dissenting voices.

Re:Please:
I think the consumer could end up worse for it.
For example. Take littlekuriboh. For anyone who doesn't know him he created a parody called "Yu-Gi-Oh The Abridged Series". Basically a poke at the stupid cartoon. Perfectly legal (as its parody and not a straight rip of the cartoon).
Extremely popular series as well, as soon as he posts an episode it goes to the top of the page.
However YouTube started nuking his episodes claiming copyright infringement. There are still a couple left on his account.
The end result, everyone copied the episodes nuked and started reposting them back to youtube. Meanwhile littlekuriboh has moved to other sites like Dailymotion (full series here).
I think Youtubes honeymoon is over and you will find people will just move to other sites that will cater for what they want. -
Metisse / Mandriva is nice too
It uses Xgl/Compiz AFAIK, but these demos (and there's a live CD) are very nice especially the "Depth Perception" side-by-side windows one.
AIGLX seems like a better solution than Xgl (being better supported on video cards with Free drivers is one major advantage), but these demos are nice.

You mean like www.alluc.org ? The question is of course how long it survives until they get sued..
I was more referring to something like DailyMotion, but yeah, alluc.org could work too. -
So many...
Some that I am most proud of are: I built a DARPA challenge vehicle, a huge wooden sculpture structure, a 20 foot tall metal tripod with a hanging fire-pit, and am working on building a business.

seriously, it's an [allegedly] evil org! -
A good start...
Comedy Central's clips are a start. A more serious matter is the misuse of the DMCA in efforts to stifle criticism.
An offshoot of the Scientology cult known as The Landmark Forum is using the DMCA against YouTube, Google and The Internet Archive because of a scathing French documentary about Landmark being shared on those sites. It aired in France to 1.5 million people, a month later Landmark pulled out of France. Story at the EFF's site and other news sources.
The video with English subtitles is available via BitTorrent at PirateBay, search eMule for "Inside Landmark Forum" or view it online at DailyMotion.

another video
yet another video
I looked at those videos, I found them to be cool in terms of the special effects that the desktop is offering. I also never want to use a computer that way. Any time I am infront of a machine that has any of those special features turned on (sliding menues even, shadows, windows showing contents while dragging etc.,) I just turn them off. -
