Re:Feel the Magic XX/XY???

Feel the Magic: XY/XX
also known as:
Project Rub
I Would Die For You
Kimi no Tame Nara Shineru (JPN)
Also known by its Japanese title Kimi no Tame Nara Shineru (I Would Die For You). You play as a rather ordinary character who one day falls in love at the first sight of a particularly hot chick. From then on, the character puts all his energy into getting the girl, only to find numerous obstacles in his way. The game was given its name to deliver the sense of how serious the main character's attraction is to the girl -- a good thing, because the entire point of the game is to earn the girl's affection. You use the Nintendo DS's touch panel to interact with the game and make the girl grow fond of you. The basic gist of the game is to touch the girl via the touch screen. In fact, the game doesn't even use the standard D-pad and button controls -- it's all about the touch.

Re:Feel the Magic XX/XY???
Here's a preview article at IGN.com. It sounds quite innovative, and it really takes advantage of the DS's features. But whether it'll be fun to play is another story...

dating simulation
It is a dating simulation game of sorts. These games have been popular in Japan for many years. It is probably pretty clean though, as this is a product for a Nintendo system. linky

Then check them out
Well, contrary to your hope, actually gamespot and ign covered the same interview:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
gamespot
Finally, Kutaragi touched on the PSP's rechargeable battery, which is purported to last between four to six hours--on average--for games, and up to four to five hours for movies.
"The battery consumption changes depending on the memory and processor usage, aside from disk access," he said. "It'll run for a long time when playing puzzle games but shorter when playing Ridge Racer, for example. Using the wireless LAN also affects the battery consumption [...] I think that there's still some room left for power-consumption improvement through software."
IGN
Continuing on the topic of battery, he offers: "By extending the amount of battery volume, we were able to create something with very good specifications. However, based on memory and processor use, the amount of power use changes. A puzzle game will offer lengthy time, but Ridge Racer will perhaps offer less than that. Using wireless LAN will have a great effect on how long the battery lasts. However, by making adjustments on the programming side of things, we would like to make it so that for whatever game you play, the announced value is an average." This seems to suggest that SCE is telling developers to hold back on pushing the system to its limits in the interest of maintaining the battery time promise.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Most likely thing is, GI.biz had (intentionally?) mistranslated the interview and had decided to give another negative campaign for PSP, even after its battery figures are revealed, to lure more viewers to their web site to rake more Google AdSense advertisement revenue. -

Re:saw one of these
Unless you count the iQue. But they're not terribly likely to do it here, they've already worked out that they can sell the classics one at a time.
-
Re:Its about money
Well no doubt, but one can also argue that it sold well because it wasn't a half assed port, and took full advantage of the GameCube's hardware. It looked slightly better than the PS2 version, and didn't feature the god-awful load times found in most multiplatform games.
Just on an almost completely unrelated note, Soul Calibur is one of my ~40 GameCube games because it's just a bloody good game. -
Re:Bring on the load timesAhem. Two words. "Finding Nemo".
The loading times on the GameCube, at least according to the IGN review, sucked. If the game is ported properly, they shouldn't be a concern -- but this title demonstrates that you can still cock it up if you try hard enough.

Re:If the PS3's processor...will Sony use an emulation layer to make PS2 and PSX games cross-evolution compatible?
Maybe that's why they bought out Connectix's Virtual GameStation years ago...
-
Re:haha
I think we're all smart enough to understand it's to make a profit, and that's not why this is big news. It's big news because of Capom's announcement to keep the RE series Gamecube exclusive will no longer be honored. It's also a slap in Nintendo's face for their promise of the "Fantastic Five" which were slated to be Cube exclusives.

Re:Wow.
No idea. SSHing in? Some weird "use the keyboard of some other host" X11 hack? Wouldn't surprise me the least...
...or since they need Phantasy Star Online to load Linux in, maybe they have hacked together support for the Phantasy Star Online keyboard (with GameCube stick acting as mouse)... no idea if this is true, this is just extremely hopeful, completely outrageous speculation about the will and capability of the GCLinux people =)
Still, I'd really want to know for sure, too.

Re:"Full true 3D" drains the battery
Yes, Metroid Prime: Hunters. Looks only slightly worse than Metroid Prime.
Huh? This or that doesn't look remotely like this (which isn't even a particularly good screen shot to begin with). Not even close. And it doesn't look as good as Waverace64 (which isn't well-represented by screenshots), either. -

PS2 Class-action
I didn't think history would repeat itself so soon. How many people remember the class-action lawsuit against Sony? They had the infamous "Disk Read Error" on the 1st generation PS2s. If I recall correctly, Sony has to repair or replace the affected systems, even if they are out of warranty (I'm sure someone will correct me if I am mistaken).
Reputable links are pretty sparse, but a quick Google search revealed a FAQ that has surfaced in several places. I usually despise class-action suits, they tend to only make lawyers rich, but as the owner of a failed 1st gen PS2, I have to say this might be a worthy use of it. IANAL, etc. -

Don't need a mouse and keyboard for your Xbox...? Others would disagree...

Redundant article
These guidelines are well out of date. Nintendo no longer censors games and hasn't done so for about 10 years. These sort of articles really are unnecessary as they only reiterate the common misconception that Nintendo is for kids. This is the type of crap that is hurting Nintendo and may eventually lead them to the same destiny as Sega. If anyone censors games it is Sony. A fairly recent example of this is the game BMX XXX, in which the PS2 version was censored and the GameCube version stayed intact.

Not just games (software) ...
Even a bigger problem sometimes is the hype of the hardware! Look at the PSP. Sounds like it should be better than the current generation home consoles. If that's not hype, I don't know what is!
That's why I've NEVER believed ANY of the hype that surrounds these new systems/games that come out unless they're from Nintendo. For example. When they announced the wavebird, every GameCube owner peed their pants in anticipation. What does Nintendo do? Give out CONSERVATIVE numbers. They said it should last 100hrs and have a range of about 20 feet. What happens in reviews?, well, turns out that 90 feet wasn't a problem and (the testers couldn't test battery life) but let me tell you from experience, I've only had to replace the batteries twice since I purchased mine.
So, when Nintendo says the DS has a battery life of 8-10 hours like the SP, I have 100% faith that it will. When Nintendo says the range of the wireless on the DS is 30 feet, I can expect at least that, and a 95% chance it'll be over 50 feet. When Sony says the PSP should be able to play current PS2 games, I say, can you even fit a game of FIFA in before you need to plug it in?!?
Have fun waiting for the overhyped PSP, I'll be with my buddies (and apparently total strangers!) playing wicked ass DS games.
Sorry, that turned out to be more of a rant. Well I guess it is. I guess I'm ranting on all those game devs. that like to tell me one thing, and then deliver me crap. :) -
Re:So how do GT4 and Forza compare?
IGN has a lot of info on Forza. I would find you some good articles, but websense blocks the sites while I am at work
:-( They really just have info on Forza, not head to head stuff. -
Time to move on
We heard about every actor for Superman: Nicola Cage or Travolta, Fraser, or MacLachlan .
I guess we need to wait more few years that Hollywood decides who will wears the Superman suit.
Also will it be the old blue and red or the new white suit as it is in the latest update in the Comics ? -

MP3CD
I picked up a DCP-400 off of ebay a while ago. Got it for 75, it looks great, and I'm having a great time with it. The American equivalent is the SlimX by Iriver, which I personally think isn't quite as nice, but if you want a cheaper alternative, check one of these out.

You really have to love thisThe journalistic quality of these supposed news sites. All it is, is a bunch of news sites such as IGN, Computer and Video Games (Registration may be required) and Gamespot shifting about a whole bunch of rumours and maybees.
Purhaps they should do what real journalists do and actually search out for the truth by contacting Valve or Vivendi Universal, rather than trying to connect the dots or use sources like "An Industry Insider". That way they don't sound like trashy womens magazines that get their sources from "Close Friends" and the like.

Bought a second karma
I bought mine almost six months ago. Have not had a lockup in 4 months.
Battery life is excellent, 12 hours playing music opposed to some players that have battery duration of 12 hours starting from the moment you remove it from the charger.
The shape is great because it allows you to use it with one hand.
Plays several formats including Ogg Vorbis.
Rio DJ allows me to select predifined playlists based on:
* Entertain Me!: Generates playlist from most frequently played music. Mix can last 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 8 hours.
* Play All: Play everything and automatically sort by album, artist, genre, or year.
* Top Tunes: Play the most frequently played tracks. You can choose from the top 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 100, or 250 songs.
* New Music: Play the most recently imported tracks. Choose from music imported in the last 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 6 months, or 1 year.
* Memory Lane: Play tracks that haven't been played in a while. Choose from music not played in the last 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 6 months, or 1 year.
* Sounds Of...: Play tracks from the 1940's, 1950's, 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, or newer than 2000
* Forgotten Gems: Play old favorites that haven't been played in the last 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 6 months, or 1 year.
* Déjà Vu: Play tracks that have been played in the last 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 6 months, or 1 year.
* Random Mix: Generate a random list lasting 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 8 hours.
There is very detailed review at:
http://gear.ign.com/articles/458/458401p1.html
Two months ago I bought a second Karma for my wife. I can say the karma is the best gadget I have bought in a long time. -
AlsoAlso:
- Diverse lineup of games (not just the latest quake clone or RTS). I don't just mean adventures, RPGs, platformers, music, and X-sports games; I mean the crazy wonderful things like the recent Katamari Damacy.
- It's extremely inexpensive. For Doom 3, upgrades to run it might cost $500+ and that's not including a top-of-the-line video card. The NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra is $500 alone. With a console, I pay maybe $300 once when it first comes out ($100-$200 a few generations later), and then all I have to buy are games (and maybe the occasional $10 memory card).
Although unlike the parent poster, I like the PS2 controller perhaps the best of the current generation, I agree that they're simply superior by nature due to the fact games can expect that you have one.
The grandparent poster may have a point if all you play is FPS's. Joysticks aren't the greatest for aiming by any means. However, out of the 70+ PS2 games, 10+ cube games, 30+ PS1 games, 20+ GBA games, and hundreds of NES/SNES/Genesis/SMS games I have, only a very few of them are FPS's, so this is a moot point.
In short: if you want some real games, get a console, otherwise be happy with your quake clone-of-the-month.

Re:Not so cool

This is an old idea
Sega developed the "Dreamcast-on-a-chip" idea way back in early 2001. They intended to use it for set top devices like cable boxes and DVD players, but it just never panned out. They were losing big money and something that crazy just didn't make financial sense. This seems to just be the same design revisited and with up to date manufacturing for smaller die and higher clock speed. An old IGN story has similar illusions of grandeur for the technology.

Re:Reversal of fortunes
So where are you getting the GC's max polygons/sec number? The only numbers officialy released, that I know of, are the ones touted for in-game numbers, not for max theoretical polygons/sec.
According to IGN the 33M number is from the official documentation, for single-textured triangles.
And, BTW, the PS2 can't come anywhere near 20M polygons/sec in-game, unless there are very few light sources, no physics, no Z-buffering, no gouraud shading, etc.
The SDK shows 30M gouraud shaded, textured, fogged pixels per second. Depending on the size of your triangles, you should be able to do z-buffered and alpha-blending triangles at this rate. The Myriad engine achives 17M polygons/second in the real game, with 33M polygons per second for pre-lit landscape. -
Resident Evil (aka BioHazard)
owns Doom.

Re:sony's should just keep quietIt also won't be able to play MP3s without converting to Sony's proprietary ATRAC.
And it runs hot (but, at least theres no noisy fan!), and despite the screen the games are dark
But hey, at least there will be a camera and keyboard attachment available at launch, with yes, a cell phone attachement coming later!

Bluray has a 50GB capacity
What Ken Kutaragi appears to have said was that the PS3 will have 54GB of storage Capacity in addition to playing DVDs and CDs. Since Bluray can hold 25/50GB one assumes he is alluding to the inclusion of an onboard HDD or flash memory device.

Re:My feelings on the changes
Actually, I wish that the whole scene was removed, or greatly shortened since Greedo basically repeats all the information to Han later on.
Earlier on, but you're right. There's a reason for that:
IGNFF: I've heard different stories. One was that it was never intended to be in the film, that it was just a let's see if we can do this, and replace it later. The other school of thought was, it was always supposed to be there.
KURTZ: Well, the original idea was that it was supposed to be there. It is in the script
... but it was a guy, a human being, this sort of fat guy... looked a bit like Sydney Greenstreet... and the scene is pretty much, I mean dialogue wise, it's exactly what you see in the Special Edition. But it was a person that was there, and we had technical difficulties with that scene. We shot it over three times for camera problems, focus problems, and film stock problem, and then abandoned it because we ran out of time. We just said, "Well, the bulk of the information that comes across in that scene, about Jabba threatening Han Solo and wanting his money and all of that, we could get across in the scene in the Cantina, with Greedo." It's basically the same kind of information. So we just added some bits to the Greedo scene to make it a little bit longer that gets across that information, and then jettisoned that other scene. This all happened while we were shooting. It wasn't done in the cutting room.(End excerpt)
Lucas seems to have forgotten, or simply doesn't care, why that Jabba scene was cut in the first place and that the film was reworked at the time to account for that. Without shortening the Greedo scene, Jabba's scene really does come across as a pointless rehash of what we just learned -- not to mention ruining the introduction of the Millenium Falcon (originally not seen until Luke first sees it), tossing in a pointless Boba Fett cameo, and undermining Jabba's threat somewhat. Of all the changes Lucas has made to the films, I think this one is tied with the infamous one as the worst.

Did you see the updated body style? It doesn't look like a game and watch toy from the 80's any more... Thank $DIETY.
IGN has a couple pictures -
No HDD?
The critical thing about the slimmed down version is that there doesn't appear to be anywhere to put a hard disk drive - which might well be a thinly veiled attempt by Sony to stop HDLoader or clones from being able to play copied games on newer consoles.
What about games that use or need the HDD? Final Fantasy XI in Europe? Hmm. The BBC and IGN are both running the story. -
Fonts
I love my GBA, but I hate when games use that SNES era font... like in this screenshot it's just so antiquated... game looks pretty cool, tho... I'll probably pick it when it hits the used market... unless I have DS by then

There used to be the Japanese version the Japanese web site of the film, but they seem to have removed the trailer and redone the site.

Re:Not All Bad
Burnout 2: Developer's Cut was a great game... however, the game didn't get a lot of press and the real anticipation was/is for Burnout 3 which EA Games has. The problem is that Acclaim always had great idea's, like Turok, South Park and Cruisin USA... but they where easily duplicated and someone else usually did it better.
