Karma
As far as I am concerned this is simply Karma coming back to bite them in the ass for the Horse Armor/Orrery/Micropayments fiasco.
I don't feel sorry for them in the least.
Also,
It would also seem appropriate to quote PA on this issue.
Taken from here: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/03/20
Tycho: Did you check out the Video Game Voters Network?
Gabe: I don't do a lot of voting.
Tycho: You don't vote?
Tycho: You're a real patriot.
Gabe: I guess I don't see what the big deal is.
Tycho: The big deal is that the government is trying to regulate a form of expression. They're trying to ban the sale of certain games to minors.
Gabe: I'm 28.
Tycho: (Smacking forehead in frustration) I recognize that. Some people aren't.
Gabe: They should get older. It just takes time.
In summary,
I'm old. I don't give a crap if children are able to play Oblivion. In fact I wish all games were rated M. Especially online stuff (I realize Oblivion is single player only).
Ultimately most parents will just buy the game for their kid anyway so it doesn't really matter. The rating system is just a lame attempt to cater to lazy and ignorant parents. If they are so out of touch that they don't know what their kids are playing and must rely on a rating, their kids are already in big trouble.
I also don't like Bethseda. I think they are a bunch of crooks. $60+ for a game and they hold back pre-existing & promised content to charge for it later. It's sad though because they have some talented developers over there. The Micropayments fiasco was almost certainly created by some Marketing genius. -

Re:Microsoft always goes it alone?
Name a game other than Halo that Bungie have made in the last 5 years that wasn't Halo.
Face it, Bungie has become a one trick pony.
That's all that their Microsoft bosses are interested in them making.
I think the current post on penny arcade covers it pretty well. (That Infernal Industry) -

Comic entitled 'Whence Wii'
http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/04/28 -
To make it something the Japanese can't pronounceThey should have called it "Parallel Refrigerator".
Japanese can't say "Playstation" and we all know how much that hurt sales.
I know Wii is an awful name, but all of this "It can't possibly be true and I'm going to make up reasons why..." stuff is just sad. Why a "real" news site is wasting even editorial space for it is stupid. Save it for Penny Arcade. They'll do a better job.

Then the buyer should just get older
Seriously, this isn't a big deal. If the kid wants it that bad, they just need to get older. It happens to all of us. Either that or convince someone to buy it for you. The bill makes it illegal to sell to someone under 18 but not give it to them. Even Penny-Arcade agrees.

Quote from WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP
Finding a good marketer is like finding an honest lawyer or honest attorney; they can save their ass with cheap-shots, or they can advertise an honest work where Tetris may look like this!! Eat that Russia, with love!
To quote from the Slashdot prefatory article in the topic discussion,
Cinema, on the other hand, is designed for people who like to watch and listen, and who expect the film-maker to get their story straight before the movie reaches the theatres.
To quote that WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP movie,
"You may be listening to Jimmi Hendrix, but you're not hearing Jimmi Hendrix."
To summary that Movie, It's a street-basketball theme; we don't hear that title quoted until 2/3 through the record, after a competitive basketball game, when the cocky "white" man bets his share of the kitty against the "black" man that says "white men can't jump"; he gets three attempts in the bet, and can't "slam dunk". Despite all this, that "white" man has good "lay ups" and superior ranged scoring. He loses the bet, and loses his wife (If I remember correctly) for some lame aspect of his character being exploited, that wasn't an issue at the beginning of the movie as evidenced by his response to someone saying his mom is an astronaugt ("my mom is too drunk to be an astronaught").
Now you may ask, what does WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP have to do with any of this?
HA HA: they made a game after it, street-basketball (2 vs 2), is equally racist as the Movie, and fails to do anything than carry that movie's title to a no-merit game... I think marketing is more involved with adapting one feature to another market. Somewhere, a CEO is contriving "Maybe if we can hype the game in this other market... just enough, where people will buy it quicker than it'll be criticized and discontinued, and we'll make a quick 3 million USD i-Dollars?"
Double Dragon was the same...great game, bad movie. I look at some Movies adapted FROM a game (think Mortal Kombat), and I think they were aiming lower than where they thought the movie theatre would score them, and instead got a great hit (it was just some good acting and cheap CGI and ropes). -
Wonder why?

Re:They don't need a good plot...
Unfortunately, Silent Hill had neither Angelina Jolie, Milla Jovovich, or a good plot. Penny-Arcade does a fairly good review, though it proves impossible to truly capture the suckiness of the movie, even for that godlike duo.
That said, do not take it as a rite of passage or somesuch mishap to go see it. You will just end up wanting to reclaim your time and money from the merciless God who inflicted that movie on you. -

Re:A few words about Harlan...
Asking someone why they aren't putting on their jester's cap isn't necessarily nice, either. Oh, they left that part out of the CGW article, but it's on their web page:
http://www.penny-arcade.com/2005/09/26
So Tycho and I are up in front of the audience with Harlen, and Hank (the con organizer) presents us with some jester hats ("Fool's caps"). Tycho and I put ours on because we are polite, but Harlen - who is apparently too cool for school - refuses to wear his. I turn to him and say, "Don't you want your hat?" and he tells me to fuck off. This caught me off guard, I mean I have no clue who this fucking coot is. Then he points to a pad of paper he has and asks if I'm aware that his paper is also called foolscap. Now, I've never heard that term before, I pretty much just call it paper so I shake my head "no." This really isn't a fair question. I mean, it would be like me asking him about Photoshop or if he can remember what he had for lunch. The guy was essentially setting me up to look stupid in front of all these people. So then he asks me if I even attended college and I say "No, I did not." Then, he says "did you at least finish high school?"
Remember, Gabe and Tycho went into this expecting him to be a little testy, and with a plan to deliver a "zinger" when the opportunity arose, so I'm sure they took everything he said with that in mind. They theorized he was upset that he had to share the stage with them, and so tried to belittle them at the first opportunity. But it could just as easily be true that Harlan felt Gabe started it when he asked him to wear the hat.
As for Harlan, here's what he had to say:
http://harlanellison.com/heboard/archive/unca20050 926.htm
Geeewhiz, I seem to have aroused the feral bleats of Gabe & Tycho's aficionados.
Met the co-guests of honor at Foolscap for all of two minutes.
One of them seemed to me a pleasant man with a nice manner.
The other struck me as a superannuated teen-age golem with a slack jaw, a slow manner, a typical pointless surliness at a world unwilling or unable to accept him as Superlative, and on sum a twerp easy to dismiss.
But then, I'm known for my compassion.
Harlan
Harlan doesn't suffer fools, and especially not gladly. Gabe came off as a boob making snarky comments from the start, and when Harlan tried to engage him intellectually, Gabe showed further weakness by not knowing what he was talking about. Did Harlan take advantage of this to snark back? Sure, but rather than take it in stride, Gabe then went for the comment he had pre-planned to make... a comment which Harlan would regard as a pretty unsophisticated zinger at that, which only made things worse for Gabe.
In any case, perhaps Harlan through Gabe said something else. Or perhaps Harlan didn't say what Gabe thought he said. We do know for sure, though, that Gabe and Tycho entered the frey intended to provoke an exchange from Harlan, and they got exactly what they wanted. I don't see Harlan is to blame for that. Oh, but I see, you figure it's just "coincidence" that Harlan was hostile, that it wasn't Gabe's intent at all, and of course that just confirms your pre-existing evaluation of Harlan's personality.
In the final analysis, I don't know what exactly happened or who is to blame. But I do know something about talking with Harlan, and that's what I posted about. Yes, Harlan has probably pissed off more people in the sf arena than any other author, but the number of people who have managed to get along fine with him still far surpass those few incidents. The man's personality may have sharper corners than most, but that doesn't mean you should intentionally thrust your knee into one just to demonstrate that.

Re:Clustering/Networking over SATA anyone?
SATAn - SATA networking!
They could advertise it with pictures of the devil. Or a silhouette of a fat geek throwing the horns.
And the answer is No BTW. SATA is just a new transport for ATA/ATAPI commands. So it supports disk drives, CD roms and so on. It doesn't support network like devices. Firewire does though. -
